Also all the girls have pointed ears, while the guys have rounded ones. So the girls are likely all ex fairies and the guys are from some other place, not all of them have to be animals though, In this comic www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=321 Red just says they were "a bunch of different stuff" Damn, beaten to it. Had the same epiphany. =) Aren't faries a non/single-gender species? I can't find what page I remember it from though. Maybe that translates to female by default after taking the test. The fairies have pointed ears from the start, so maybe something is imprinted when they become big and fat? The animal boys though, they might not even HAVE ears to begin with. Why they're all boys just raises more questions about how the changing process works. Is it coyote or the court that makes them change? Also, about the striped boy behind Annie: He matches the pattern of some kind of badger more closely than that of a skunk, and his rather long facial features makes me think that he was indeed a badger before. The boy with the brown hair and pointed nose at the top right of the picture: maybe a bird?

Anyways, I was wondering myself on how the whole proeccess works since I doubt only male animals can do the change. As for faries not being a single gender species, I think you might be referring to the first City Face.

...Just a thought, but what happened to Kat and all her nervousness from Reynard's comment in the last chapter? I get that Robot was injured, and so was Shadow, but that sub-plot has had no resolution and it's driving me insane.

Panels 2 and 3 in the last page of the chapter went some way towards that.

As for Kats reaction to Reynards comment, looks like nobody thought anything of it and simply forgot about it.

The composition of the last panel is just incredible, cramming all of those fairies in there in a way that looks natural and comfortable. Some of the background fairies look like they are from Dr Seuss.

Purple Girl, lower right, has a slash on her cheek like Annie, albeit a green one.
I know that's probably a region tattoo, but it makes me wonder if Annie's cut is taken as a kind of honorary region marker.
She earned that, she did.

Read it, no definite conclusion one way or the other there. I think I've drawn the conclusion from the bit of information in "regional fairies" that says they're born "under logs" and such. That they're kind of born to fill a present need. Maybe the animals all turn male when they turn? If it's coyote doing the change that could easily just be for the lulz.
