They're doing orbital mechanics; the prof appears to be deriving Kepler's Laws of Planetary Motion. Wildspec: this will be followed by a discussion about the moon. [edit: I've done this before. It's quite fun to randomly sit in on math and physics classes you have no business being in to see if you can figure out what they're talking about.]

I like Annie's face's "evolution" in this page)

Red's eyes look weird... and her face hasn't changed position from last page to this one.
I wonder if she's bored senseless and left an illusionary dummy to "attend class" for her.

I'll have terrible nightmares about Kepler's laws of Planetary motion, escape velocity, orbital velocity, and showing up late to my final for the next week now. On a completely different note: Does anyone else think Annie's neck and head looks really off in the third panel, or is lack of sleep just messing with my vision?

They are all playing World of Warcraft on their laptops, the equation-speak is just a cover to fool non-Foley students.

So... is this an example of the fairies getting an uber-dose of science?
I mean, I know Gunnerkrigg is supposed to offer these guys helpful learning for their fairyness, but...?
For a fairy that wanted to get squished by a rock and then obsessed over hair height, though, Red's really coming along.
First, hair gel science, now orbital mechanics.

Does anyone else think Annie's neck and head looks really off in the third panel, or is lack of sleep just messing with my vision? Her neck does look elongated but only a tad. But I was actually logging in to write that the female person in the background of that same panel looks like the one on the right here from the Red Returns chapter. same bangs, similar hair in back though only one cheek blush-circle. Also: +1 for double-jointed teacher.

Red's eyes always look like that: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=329In fact I think it is a common trait of all the ex-fairies: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=332This was... not what I was expecting from a Foley class. I like how the teacher is an ex-fairy too! For some reason it never occured to me that that would probably be the case.

They're all tripping out on Krillitane oil. (trying to crack the Skasis paradigm no doubt)

Red seems to have mellowed quite a bit.
[edit] Fhqwhgads, I love you. You know that if that stuff really existed, all the cool kids would use it before taking the SAT.

I don't think that is the same ex-fairy, the hair in back looks closer to the style Surma had. The boy in panel 5 reminds me of Aly. I caught that one as being a boy as well. Doesn't really remind me of Aly though. For a second though, I thought maybe that would be a former elf, but no pointed ears.

I wish I could type in mathematical notation. Oh, I know there are tools for doing it, and I've put some pretty tricky stuff on the screen with them, after fiddling a bit, but these kids are typing at dictation speed. To me, the entire class looks...unminded. Even the teacher. I don't think Jones sent Annie in there as a matter of courtesy, but as a spy. They're all tripping out on Krillitane oil. (trying to crack the Skasis paradigm no doubt) [follows link] Ah. Yes. Something very like, perhaps. (Hm, gotta wonder how Zimmy would do in that class. Would she be able to resist the siren call of physics? Or Krillitane oil?)

There was only one thing I had in my head when reading the text in those panels. Tom Lehrer.

Here's my wild speculation on the computers: they don't want to teach the forest kids any technology that they could take back to the forest. Chairs? Really easy to hack together. Possibly banned. Haircuts? Could be done on forest people. Banned. Paper and pencil? Could duplicate with charcoal and bark. Banned. Computer? Effectively a magic demon box. Allowed. Astrophysics? LAUGHING ON LINE, allowed.

Or have they, by undergoing the tests that will give them human bodies, thrown in their lot with humanity forever, never to return to Gilltie Wood?

So... is this an example of the fairies getting an uber-dose of science? It's for svarnetics. Told you. Also: +1 for double-jointed teacher. Fairies are supposed to be one-jointed? "Can't talk. Ninja Gaiden." Or, given the lesson, Orbiter. To me, the entire class looks...unminded. Even the teacher. They are... spaced out! (Hm, gotta wonder how Zimmy would do in that class. Would she be able to resist the siren call of physics? Well... She did take refuge into a library... I wonder if that's the boy who was a fish, also. He's very cute for a fish. Who knows? Maybe he was cute as a fish? Why not? ;D
