Sorry for not having knowledge of hairband tying methods Haha, does it matter whether it's hair or a hair band? The effect in keeping Annie's hair together is pretty much the same, no? On a side note, Tom included the ubiquitous white circle on Zimmy's chest even here (also in #929). Man, I really wanna know what's up with that! Maybe the circle on her chest is an alternate tracking device? Another manefestation of her 'curse'? Some wierd OCD thing of Zimmy? Although she hasn't shown any OCD behavior.

Crisis: Averted. And now Annie takes the knots out of her hair and goes back to her former, reserved self. Actually, I think it's a sign that she's about to open up to him. Or try to. Jack has seen through the facade and she hasn't immediately try to deny he's right, so maybe she'll drop it. She needs to get her feelings out, not romantic feelings, she just needs a friend who she can talk to about her mother, and I don't think she's managed to do that with Kat. Maybe she'll actually spill the beans to Jack. Maybe she'll try but can't bring herself to do it. Maybe Kat will interrupt. Maybe Kat will overhear the conversation and be sad that Annie could share this with Jack and not her. But I think the next strip is going to one of those paths (unless it's time for a cutaway to the other kids telling a story). Also, IN YOUR FACES to the people who kept insisting Jack was really into Zimmy, and that Jack and Annie really didn't like each other. Forget shipping, but Jack as a friend who Annie can talk about stuff to would be a big advance for Annie as a character and also for the strip IMO. Shakes up the dynamics.

If he's going to correct someone about it being a hairtie rather than a knot, I felt the need to present a third possibility. No malice intended, of course, just general information. I get it already!.....

I think Tom is a better storyteller than that. It doesn't have to go where I think it will go (it almost never does), but it has to go somewhere.

Also, IN YOUR FACES to the people who kept insisting Jack was really into Zimmy, and that Jack and Annie really didn't like each other. I don't see how this page alone proves that Jack is not into Zimmy. I could see Annie and Jack remaining friends, no problem, but I don't think anything romantic here is going to happen, at least not for a while.

The first three panels really show to me what a great pair (not necessarily romantic) Jack and Annie would make if Annie could work out her various issues. The repartee between them is just perfect.

As Annie unties her hair, I imagine her mumbling to herself: "Releasing Control Art Restriction Systems..."

On the next page: Annie says "No, THIS is a flash of anger" and incinerates Jack. The rest of the chapter devolves in a detective story with Jones as the detective and Eglamore as sidekick/comic relief.

Is this the first time Annie's hair has been down since she came back from the forest, by the way? I think it is, and I'm intrigued by the possible significance.

Haha, gotta love the random velociraptor. Maybe Jack's parents are velociraptors? They passed this test, you see.

Ew Tom, ew. I don't want my chips cooked in Zimmy-grease. Ew.
Looks like Annie finally twigged that Jack's been messing with her, and in the best way possible - with a raptor!

You sure you're not a glass elemental instead of a fire elemental?

Ew Tom, ew. I don't want my chips cooked in Zimmy-grease. Ew. Also, I am now morbidly curious to know how food cooked in Zimmy's hair grease will end up as. It'll either give you twisted etheric powers, or it'll kill you. Or both, and not necessarily in any order. Looks like Annie finally twigged that Jack's been messing with her, and in the best way possible - with a raptor! But, dammit, now Tom's shown a dinosaur. My idea of making a drawing with Anthony's "matters to attend to" being him in a pimp outfit and party hat astride a T. rex and fighting Daleks won't have as much impact now.

Pasko, you now have all of my respect. All of it. "You think I'm going this way? NO! I am going that way, haha" ^ Every Gunnerkrigg Court page ever. I love it because half of the fun is coming here and deliberating the HELL out of what we think is coming next, and then being completely wrong.

Is it just me, or is Jack's last speech bubble in Annie's color? Same here. Haha, gotta love the random velociraptor. Random?.. I wouldn't be sure - maybe the raptor is Jack's representation of his parents? ;D So, who'd win in a Zimmy/Raptor fight? (if raptors can be sent to Zimmingham, then my money's on Zimmy. Otherwise, the raptor probably has it.) Don't forget that Zimmingham can be "sent" to the raptor too... Color typos aside..... Anybody else think Annie is pulling a flirt or is about to? What with starting to remove her hairbaind. Or maybe I'm completely misinterpreting her actions in the last three panels. I think she just feels ashamed, and wants to hide behind her hair for awhile. Or maybe it's her "talk seriously" mode? Also, who else here is shipping JackxZimmy? Not only would it be absolutely hilarious, but it could do a lot of good for Zimmy, mentally speaking. I have to point at the certain strip-slay in the previous thread... (it's the only feasible way, really) And that's exactly my point. He wants her to knock off this facade and be straight with him. That can go many directions. So true. Not that anything else couldn't, of course. As we just saw. Let this sink for a moment...

I know in a lot of north American culture, to "let your hair down" is to relax, let go, be free, etc. But in a lot of references I've seen when I was a kid in Chinese/Japanese culture, letting your hair down is a sign of growing up or becoming serious -- mostly because little girls tend to tie their hair up or braid it, whereas mature women have it down a lot more. Undoing your hair is generally taken to be a sign of growing up, or cutting your hair loose.
I'm on the edge of my seat for Wednesday's strip (as usual). Tom, you're such a tease.

Surprising that nobody has mentioned the obvious and undoubtedly true interpretation of Annie’s movement in the last panel: she’s giving Jack a surreptitious middle finger. (She’s standing at the wrong angle to pretend to scratch her nose.)
