This is quite the mood whiplash. Yes. From Cary Grant and Grace Kelly to... ...a couple of teenagers you wouldn't want hanging around. Oh well, it was too good to last. ------------ Annie! Wake up! Jack just said a part of the spider was left in his mind. Time to put your new-found powers to good use and get rid of the last of it. Or just ignore his plight. Who cares, you don't like him and he's being a jerk, probably because a trace of the spider is left in his mind. Only, he wasn't being a jerk a minute ago, and it was you who started the, "I don't like you," bit. Maybe a fragment of Jack's spider-remnant jumped on Annie? ------------ Or maybe she is their mother goddess by default. Zimmy as proto-Lolth? She has the attitude.

What a tweest! I like the way this is going interesting-story-wise. My guesses:
First, Annie was framing Jack in the context of romantic interest, and Jack is now officially Not Available. She's going to go crazy trying to get him. Scientifically proven, though I'm too lazy to actually find the citations.
Second, Jack isn't going to try to split Zimmy and Gamma up; he's either going to go for both of them or try to convince Gamma to let him borrow Zimmy every now and then. No idea how he's going to manage it, though.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next few pages will be the last Jack will ever appear in. Nah, I don't Annie is that mad. But, if Jack keeps pushing her buttons I think she will use her fire on him.
Annie might tell him that she is part fire-element but maybe not since Jack might say something insulting. Jack's face in panel 7 is begging to be smacked. If he starts to harm someone like poor guardbot to get to Zimmy again, then we'll know that he has gone mad again.

Jack just said a part of the spider was left in his mind. Given the context of Jack’s remark, I understand the word “that” in his comment — “I guess a part of that was left behind” — to refer to the spider’s influence, at least vis-à-vis the repeatedly-whispered adoration for Zimmy. In other words, something more like “I guess that rubbed off on me” rather than “I guess a literal portion of the spider was left within me”.

Another creepy thing about this page: Jack looks genuinely happy and normal until panel 7, even though he's talking about being possessed. I was actually rather surprised he'd recovered so well back in Chapter 31 when he said he remembered everything, so, uh, yeah. I think Jack has some serious issues going on.

As for Annie losing it, I don't know. Wasn't she supposed to learn how to control her emotions? "Controlling" and "suppressing" are two different things. Unless you're someone like Jones, completely bottling up one's emotions isn't very healthy and likely to backfire, especially if you're part fire elemental. Ideally the forest would have helped Annie learn to express her emotions without going overboard, which is what I see here. She's letting herself get mad, but she's not about to throw him off the balcony/inundate him with blinkerstone fire. That's what I meant. Maybe I interpret it wrong being ESL, but "losing it" made me think lose control.

Jack's only recently been through weeks (months?) of essentially demonic possession, during which time he rarely or never slept, ate, etc... If he's acting a little loopy still, that doesn't mean he's still possessed or whatever; it's at least as likely to be some form of PTSD.

I just feel happy that after this many years, there's been some kind of canon acknowledgement that Zimmy and Gamma are (or, to Annie, appear to be) a couple. Not to mention, they're some of my favorite characters in the comic, so it's nice to see a plot featuring them.
And I like this whole development, plus I doubt Jack is "trolling". I really want to see where Tom goes with this.
(And man, I haven't been on here [the forums] in ages. I used this account for a few months a while ago, then forgot I had it. :/)

New theory!
The spiders makes victims want to be near Zimmy so they get stuck in her world and get possessed by spiders! Spring-heeled has yet to end!
We know spring heel was a continuation of what happened in Zimmys world, I wouldnt be surprized if the same thing happened again.

4chan inspired thought! Jack has been asking Annie about the Blinker stone and such as way to figure out how to be around Zimmy if he can replicate the limited (or more) effect Annie has like of Gamma (who's ablity is "perfect")

And now he'll start telling Annie how self-absorbed she is for thinking that he was interested in her. And then she will set him on fire. I kind of want Parley and Smitty to pop up with a bag of popcorn and start yelling "FIGHT FIGHT!"

I realised something: Highland senior is not going to be too pleased when he'll realise who his son is trying to woo. If Hyland Senior is working at the Court, he's very likely long since got over his teenage prejudices and probably made it up with Eglamore and the rest. That was a long time ago and they were kids.

I know it's been brought up elsewhere before, but now that Jack's looking to relapse into Etheric Spider-Man on all of us, maybe the spider in this page means some sort of greater significance to it all. Maybe the relapse will become useful in some way to Annie or the Wood (definitely Coyote in some way) in the future? Or be instrumental in . . . well, something?

Somehow I doubt that Annie will get away with flipping out and setting someone on fire while bud is still watching.

Why is he being a jerk-ass right now? I was kind of under the impression that he was a pretty nice guy, who only acted like a jerk when under the influence of the spider. Maybe its genetic??

Does Jack still have the jewel? No matter -- she can always blink it back, if he does. That adds a pretty interesting layer to the romantic connotations of giving someone your stone - you can't blink it back if they decide to run off with it. Took me long enough to notice that.

We don't know that he works at the Court, and I don't see how doing so would necessarily hinder is anti-etheric bias, given that "anti-etheric bias" is a good description of the majority consensus in the Court.
