Methinks Ysengrim is a secret philosopher/hippie/guru, but doesn't really want to show his 'softer' side to those not of the forest (namely, the Court).
I guess Kat isn't really into the meditative stuff.
Also Toms experiments with the no outlines is getting a little distracting, and the 'bamboo pole' in the previous page was the antenna.
Edit: Max, you have the wrong comic number in the title.

I was about to mention the wrong page thing.

The etheric shadow (or whatever it is) in panel 8 sort of looks like a phoenix, which is appropriate given Annies fire elemental ancestry.

I think maybe, instead of lifting Kat into the sky, Annie should try to get her feet back on the ground. So to speak.

Is Kat even gonna be able to do this? She hasn't got any supernatural powers that we've seen (with the possible exception of her genius scientific/engineering skills), so it seems somewhat unlikely to me.

Man, Kat is going to be so jealous when she sees Annie flying around in the next page.

Actually, maybe it's flying in the metaphorical sense and she is trying to teach Kat how to let her imagination truly fly.

Sounds to me like Annie learned to do magic without her blinker stone. Can't know for sure yet.
I must say, that image of Annie's inner self in the sky is really pretty neat.

Aaaand the great divide has begun. Kat is starting to realize that they don't have anymore much in common, and will start questioning their friendship.
Love the phoenix inner Annie, btw.

Annie forgot that Kat can't use Blinker Stone... Beautiful page and funny at the same time) P.S.: Joke about smelling is wonderful!) P.S.2: Is Annie Phoenix?! Or that is just real form of her Inner Fire? Aaaand the great divide has begun. Kat is starting to realize that they don't have anymore much in common, and will start questioning their friendship. And it's sad... Kat was Annie's friend, best and only one(as human)...

Kat can't use a blinker stone? I thought she had never tried? Anja has etheric ability, maybe Kat can if she tries .

It looks like the Wood vs Court thing may be played out in miniature between these two, without the hostilities of course. Annie is apparently a bad student at the Court, etherically sensitive and loved her time in Gillitie. Kat's a great student, has no etheric leanings whatsoever, and enjoys all the technological stuff in Gunnerkrigg. Wow, how to bridge that divide. Maybe they can get someone who is both a tech wiz and has some etheric talent?

Ah, definitely. Jack and Kat have common interests, and he has some etheric stuff so he can serve as a link with Annie.

I wouldn't worry about their friendship too much. People don't have to have the same things in common, just accept their friends for who they are.

But friendships are largely based on things people have in common. Be it interests, sense of humor, outlook on life/the world, etc...
We'll just have to wait and see how this turns out.

I get it now! Annie has spend the entire summer with elves and the supernatural, she's losing her ties with humanity and Kat is gunna have to remind her of that. This will strengthen their friendship, but not before some drama I still say Kat is also part supernatural, nobody is that great with robots at that young an age!

Is this like one of those magic eyes?
Those never work for me. I hate them.

I met two people today, a pair of roommates. They've lived together for five years, and look to all appearances to be good friends. Funny thing is, they told me they have absolutely nothing in common.
Many friendships are based on common interests, but then again many aren't.

I took Kat's "Hmm..." to mean "Wings? Bird? ...Bird!"
Also, Annie is Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. I believe there was a tree, or at least a shubbery, at her meeting with Jack several months ago. But we don't know how far away they are from that (but judging from how the last meeting went, probably very far away).

Well in that particular case, they do have one very major thing in common: they live together. Without common interests/hobbies or living situations like that, it's pretty easy for friends to drift apart. For instance, how many of your friends from primary/secondary school do you still regularly hang out with? Or even have any kind of regular contact with at all? At least in my experience, it's a pretty small number :/

Aye, there are some trees in the court but there aren't any trees on the roof with them! Look at their view... not a speck of green to be seen. Even the smell of the air is much different than in the forest.

Annie does not share Kat's interest in robots but she seems to enjoy spending time with Kat while she's working. Kat doesn't share Annie's etheric talents/interests but she's there with Annie when she works on that, too. The most important thing they have in common is they like each other.

Is Ann going to fly? That's funny considering Kat achieved flight 2 ( ) years ago, Anny has finally caught up! Kat focused outward to fly Ann focused inward!

I was thinking their "new system" was a combination of the two, and therefore they could both be considered to have at least some etheric ability. Especially since Anja is heavily into technology herself, and she can do both. That may not be right, but that is what I was thinking.

You may be right but this one makes me think its impossible for Donald to access the etheric... and probably Kat also.. but that remains to be seen. Donald can access the computer, the computer can access the etheric, so Donald can use the etheric without having actual access to it. I think Eglamore's chalk drawing may work the same. Again, not sure about that. Anja called her necklace a 'soft link', that's like a house address on a mobile home. You mail a letter to an address, and wherever the mobile home is, it gets there.(Pretend this would actually work) So, wherever Anja's necklace is, the computer can access it.
