Isn't it a little contradictory to put the speech in that typeface and then try to make some words bold for emphasis? The entire idea of that font is that the speech is even and uniform. Make the word stretch out longer? Haha. C'mon, it's artistic interpretation. There's a giant, sentiant crab speaking with two little girls and a demi-god inside a plushie. I think it'll be fine if Tom pushes the limitations of computer audio output, here. it can also just be emphazising how the girls hear the words.

I assumed she sounds like the Planet Express Ship's computer from the Futurama ep "Love and Rocket".

[...] What I find puzzling is why that console is not designed and positioned in such a way that Lindsey can see the keyboard and screen. (It could have two screens, the other one positioned for humans to read.) Look at panels 1 & 3. Some of her eyes are above the waterline. Perhaps she has great visual acuity[1]? {edit}I imagine that great visual acuity would help in her official job as well. Imagine the a structual engineer who could see cracks in objects that a human would need a magnifying glass (or a microscope) to see. With the number of eyes she has, she can truly see objects from a number of different angles simultaneously and that would give her a better idea of the three dimensional structure. [1] Essentially, the number of dots that make up a being's vision. The greater the acuity the more detail they can see (and the further away they can see that detail).

Everyone keeps saying 'she'... Lindsey is also a boys name too. In fact, I believe that here in the UK, spelling it with an "e" makes it more likely to be a boy's name. The female variant is more usually "Linds ay". You get the same distinction between "Lesl ie" and "Lesl ey" but I'll bet you can find instances where the convention fails to hold, for both these examples. So assuming it isn't a typo, and that Tom isn't messing with our heads even more than normal ;D I would guess that our new crustaceous friend is a bloke.

I think one of my favorite little details is the extra claws in the last panel.
I get the impression the last three panels go something like:
- "I HELPED DESIGN YOUR DORMS I KEEP AN EYE ON THINGS MAKE SURE YOU HAVENT SPRUNG A LEAK HAHA" - (Wait, I just realized the air-breathers might not appreciate a joke about them potentially drowning in their sleep) - "THATS NOT LIKELY TO HAPPEN BY THE WAY" (multiple claws because Lindsay's typing very fast)

Also: SAPIENT. She is a SAPIENT crab creature. All crabs are sentient, except if they're dead. Well, I'll be damned. I learn something new from this board every day. mithrandirYep, I would imagine that's how Tom meant for this joke to be taken.

I foresee Kat getting along very well with an Engineer. Her intelligence will probably come to really appreciate Lindsey after she gets over the "gosh golly GIANT CRAB THING" reaction.
As for what her little read-outs sound like to me, I'm thinking, GLaDOS.

Lindsey seems to have been specifically created by Tom to bridge the gap between Kat and Annie. As both an expat creature of the forest, and an expert mechanical engineering geek, she will probably get along great with both of them.

I don't think that works. There's just not enough water in the forest.

Don't be so literal-minded. Lindsey is clearly not of the mundane world. What other categorical term do we have? "Etheric creature"? Besides, she may not have always been this large.
In any case, my prediction stands. Pretty soon Lindsey will be helping Kat out with her robot designs.

In any case, hopefully Tom will tell us about Lindsey's origins/historical background sometime. zylonbane: Yea, I've said that earlier. Considering that they are both engineering geeks. Hell, Kat is an engineering genius! She made a freaking anti-grav generator among other things. Once she gets over the wierdness and the initial getting freaked out, the two should definetly get along well.

I don't know, I personally would prefer to draw a line between not human and of the forest in the same way I would draw a line between the court and the human world. The forest is a political entity ran by Coyote and Ysengrin, it doesn't speak for all nonhumans. In fact, one of the things about the comic I like is that the court clearly distinguishes between the two. It has plenty of non-human allies, Sivo, Basel, Lindsey, Mrs. Sutton ect despite the conflict with Gilitie Wood and there's no sign that any of them are ex pats.

Honestly I've seen enough of both genders who spell their names with both an a and with an e that I wouldn't read too much into that. I could name you two prominent british celebrities who are female and spell it with an e for instance. It could be either, we don't know for sure. Lindsey is a more common name among women than men, though.

It's tough being a female giant crab monster engineer in a male giant crab monster engineer's world. I just realized I've been hearing the "HA HA" in my head like Wizard of Wor.

Lindsey types with HTML tags. Who would deliberately require 7 (at least) characters every time 2 are needed? What I find puzzling is why that console is not designed and positioned in such a way that Lindsey can see the keyboard and screen. (It could have two screens, the other one positioned for humans to read.) One word: _eyestalks_. I suspect she's female but eventually someone will refer to her in third person singular and we'll know what Tom had in mind. We'll only know what one character had in mind. The first thing on the sentience wiki page is "Not to be confused with sapience." Hmm... "if you're sapient, you know not to step in sap" Thanks. (waving an eyestalk, scribbles down): "...the hivemind is dodgy and obscure around matters of sapience..."

I can't help but imagine Lindsey speaking like Deep Thought from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy <3
And they keep mentioning that Robot's new body isn't made yet, so perhaps that's where Lindsey comes in? She and Kat can buddy up to make him the most amazing new body ever!
And, just sayin', if Jones was a robot (which she is not - but still) I bet Lindsey would've been the one to make her.

How would Lindsey be able to help Kat with Robot? She's a structural engineer, buildings and the like, not a roboticist. I doubt fiddly wiring is her forté, not with those claws.

I'll give you one guess.

While structural engineering is primarily associated with buildings, structural engineers can be applied to just about anything that has structural requirements, even submarines. Refer to: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Structural_engineeringRemember chapter 39? Kat was fussing over the design of the arm and probably the whole rig. I'm not sure what structural requirements Kat intends to have for the new body, but Lindsey could certainly give Kat advice, some insight, maybe even ideas. Even though Lindsey seems to be a specialist in underwater structures and possibly submarines and boats.

How is it possible to have a pool in a tank like that without it flooding the dorms?
p.s. this was meant as an actual question, not a "Hey! that doesn't make sense!"
