What if the news Kat's thinking of breaking to Annie is that she doesn't want to be close friends with Annie any longer - not out of simple hurt feelings over Annie not going on holiday with her, but out of a sober assessment of Annie's erratic behavior ever since they first met? Maybe Kat thought it over during the summer holidays, and decided (especially after getting to know Paz better) that she'd rather have a close friend who has a better grasp of social etiquette - one who wasn't raised by death-gods in a hospital? (It's obvious that Paz wouldn't go around lifting a boy off the ground in public to check that he was lighter than normal, or endanger her life in repeated meddlings into the Court's secrets.)

I think Kat will forgive Annie, it's just taking her a little bit... which is completely understandable.

Don't know if anyone else has said this, but it's pretty likely that the thing splishing in the water is the same thing that Reynard said he saw swimming earlier?
