Combining theories: It's a water-monster placed there by Jones to abduct Kat, so Annie can rescue her and they'll be friends again. Or maybe it's one of these. Offtopic: Hey, been wondering where that comic was, thanks. Been waniting to read it.

Is Kat... talking to the splish? I would have thought so too if she hadn't puzzled over it the last time.

Splish 2: Electric Boogaloo I'm fairly sure it's Return Of The Mysterious Splish. Also, we see here how too much of an endearing thing becomes an annoying thing. But still funny. And so, Kat says 'I shouldn't keep her hanging like this' while Tom Siddell keeps us hanging till Monday. Lovely. He's like this. Also - I'm totally not expecting the splish to be Jones - No, no. That would be BLOOSH. Maybe it's from water bots looking for their "angel"?.. It is funny because Annie's been trying to avoind saying sorry directrly and Kat's been trying to avoid forgiving her. They were a lot closer in motivation through the whole process than I thought. Well, I can sort of see why Kat might not want to suddenly admit that she's been obnoxious, and so take easy route out by continuing onward. Or they both continue too far because it's easier than the next step to fix things. Back at #853 Annie did apologize directly. By the way, it's the only time she said it at all. E.g. after "Carvering" Mr.Eglamore she sent her indirect apologies to Donlans via Kat.

I kinda wonder if the splish is Annie swimming, going away from her rooms the first time, and then going back to them this second time...I mean, she's fay enough for it, to not use the modernized contraption of a cat walk...eh, I dunno...

I hope Kat forgives Annie soon. Because otherwise, Kat won't be able to tell what is actually dangerous.

The return of the splish - somewhat ominous. If you look at panel two upside down... Her hair! It goes up!

I predict the next panel will feature a giant sea-monster (cause of the splishes), with huge tentacles, holding Kat up in the air, so she will be the one left hanging, and the situation will be reversed and it will be funny, also this sentence is way too long but I don't care!

Does anyone really think that the Court would allow a water monster down there?

Does anyone really think that the Court would allow a water monster down there? Is this the same court that lets a minotaur vacation there and has a "Lets kill EVERYTHING" ghost by the river?

Yes, the same Court that lets a very friendly Minotaur vacation in a very out-of-the-way labyrinth. And the same Court that knows nothing about the origins of the ghost by the river and has has rules and alarms to prevent students from going near it.

You know, I'd interpreted the first *splish* as Annie throwing the boots Kat rejected into the loch -- now I'm thinking something more like Nessie (speaking of lochs...). Either that, Gunnerkrigg has been invaded by Asian bighead carp...

And yet all I can think is ANNIE TAKE A GODDAMN SHOWER ALREADY. Agreed! And wash those clothes... I'm sure washing them in a river without soap for months isn't helping things either!

Yeah, I can't think of an obviously dangerous situation. Annie was able to walk into the dangerous animal cages only after she picked the locks. So, if there IS something scary splishing about so close to the dorms, its probably not actually dangerous.

[Yeah, I can't think of an obviously dangerous situation. "Oh, no! I overslept! I need to hurry out of my bed in the year 7 dorms." Splat.

Well, I can sort of see why Kat might not want to suddenly admit that she's been obnoxious, and so take easy route out by continuing onward. She's been a lot less obnoxious than Annie has. I think most people with a bit of sense would have just left Kat alone for a while and tried a more gradual approach. Annie's continuing attempts to win Kat back have become obnoxious, yes, certainly. Annie's activities followed only on the heels of Kat's behavior. A real friend will forgive another for minor issues. Instead, Kat has blown this way out of proportion and read Annie the "I'm deeply offended" riot act for no good reason. Annie did not go traipsing around through Scotland with Kat. That's it. Annie's absence was even for excellent reasons though we still don't know whether Kat knows the truth about it. Annie has every reason, though, to expect that Kat knows the full truth. Fair weather friends find fault and blame in others, especially over minor issues, instead of looking at what's really important, the friendship itself. Despite being rejected by Kat for no good reason, Annie is frantically (and obnoxiously) attempting ridiculous solutions to try and win Kat back. I await, hopefully, finding out what happened to Kat in the interval. Did Jones not tell Kat everything, a different version, or not convey Annie's message of love? Did some incident injure Kat's body or scar her mind somehow? I also wait Annie sitting up and wondering just what it was Jones and/or others actually told Kat. (Or finding out that Coyote's personality has rubbed off on her, or that Coyote is masquerading as her.) -------------- * If Annie had taken a butcher knife to Kat and sliced her up, or even had, say, stolen her boyfriend (if Kat had one), that would be a different matter entirely. Kat would be right to be angry with Annie. But for not going on a trip? Forgive me for not being impressed with Kat's behavior to date on so minor an issue (subject to finding out more about what happened to Kat while Annie was gone).

Ah, real friends screw up all the time. Husbands and wives screw up all the time, co-workers, neighbors, you name it, if people interact at all, they're gonna get it wrong from time to time. Its not that big a deal, honestly. That's why the phrase "I'm sorry" exists! Fair weather friends screw up, then walk away, never to look back. That won't happen here.

At least the minotaur actually IS friendly and isn't a cannibal.

Can you please go back to those pages and look again what was Kat's actual behavior?
She *mildly* explained to Annie that she had been feeling a bit angry about Annie ditching her. And she couldn't make herself display deep enthusiasm about meeting her.
"Read the I'm deeply offended riot act"? That's not something that actually happened in the comic.
Annie broke a promise and ditched Kat for the summer vacation without even a personal explanation or a personal apology.
I was expecting Kat's anger far before she reappeared (mentioned my expectations in the forum even, so I get a cookie). Kat's anger if anything has been significantly milder and more restrained than I expected.
Annie betrayed Kat. She has betrayed Kat behind her back by cheating from her behind her back (which Kat as far as we know doesn't know yet), but she now also broke her promise and ditched her.
Seriously? That's your first example for justified anger, something that would get people locked up in jail or a psychiatric hospital?
So basically something that usually breaks up friendships for ever is your second example for friends feeling even *slightly* angry at each other.
And yet you are blaming Kat for something even more minor, the fact that she felt angry, and very *very* mildly explained her emotions to Annie.
So basically she should be bottling up the emotions? She should lie to Annie, saying that she never felt any anger towards her at all?
What exactly is Kat's sin here? That she was honest to Annie? Is "honesty" Kat's fault here? "Lack of enthusiasm about seeing Annie"? What exactly?

Kat's sin is she's honestly upset about something that is reasonable to be upset about.
Annie's sin is she took advantage of a last minute opportunity instead of a planned vacation with Kat.
Just as she owes Eglamore an apology, she owed Kat an apology. Kat isn't ready to accept it just yet, but as you can tell, its pretty soon now. This just isn't that big a deal!

So, if there IS something scary splishing about so close to the dorms, its probably not actually dangerous. Unless it just got in, and the teachers don't know it's there yet. (I did start wondering - what if those experiments with the ether have had side effects on the local water life?) But more likely the source of the splash is harmless.

That accidential leak reveals next to nothing, won't stop people from speculating on it though and this chapter has barely just started.
About time Tom added the more recent chapters on there though.
Edit: Even if we did know the chapter title beforehand, it's 99% speculation at this point. Although we can infer with the way things are going.
Edit2: Pretty neat chapter icon as well.
