It is the plausible theory, as I think. why do i get the feeling that many pranks were pulled on ysengrin over the summer? if his robe is bright pink when he next appears, WE KNOW WHO I want to see THAT! It's my understanding that so long as you're not doing it with intent to defraud, in the States at least, you can call yourself whatever you like. If you don't name yourself "old" version of surname into official documents, all will be fine. As I know.

Personally I think this is good, kat had enough time on her own over the summer, maybe Annie constantly making a idiot of herself will show her that Annie is still worth the trouble!

Annie could have:
A. Never married.
or
B. Kept her last name after marriage.
And, also, Kat will not be won back with cheesy, fake situations that include teamwork. That will just make her think
A. Annie is stupid.
B. Annie thinks SHE is stupid.
C. Annie is pathetic.
or
D. Both A and C.

And, also, Kat will not be won back with cheesy, fake situations Since, as far as we know, Kat's entire position is: "Annie, terrible and traumatic things happened to you, and so you had to go do something other than traipsing through Scotland with me, and I'm really upset with you about those terrible things that happened to you because obviously those things and your choice were all there just to stab me in the back." Kat's current position on what happened is totally unsympathetic and her actions make her look like a donkey's rear end. Annie is devastated by Kat's completely unreasonable rejection. Annie's reactions to try and restore the former state of affairs are ridiculous because she is semi-desperate and doesn't know what to do, except that she wants Kat to start acting like, oh, I don't know, maybe like a friend. On the other hand, if something terrible happened to Kat in the meantime, then Kat's reactions might seem a little more reasonable.

right, right, because annie was forced to run off to the forest and cry on coyote's shoulder. let's not forget how ysengrim teamed up with jones to twist her arm, too. oh, yeah, and that binding was really there to keep her in the forest for the summer and not write or anything else.
i've already irked a few people when i complained about how...well, thoughtless and immature annie's running off was (yes, yes, it was a completely normal human thing to do - but from someone whose entire philosophy on life revolves around "minimize everyone's suffering," it was a completely arse-faced thing to do) and i'll probably irk you because i have a different opinion of kat's position:
she's entirely justified in cutting herself off. while it's not the nicest thing she could do, it's something she's doing to protect herself from further hurt. she started off being annie's friend (something that couldn't be easy) because her mother asked her to. she's been perfectly sympathetic and loyal as a friend could be, doing things like rescuing annie from the annan waters and taking her along to a secret meeting annie wasn't invited to. she's shown no jealousy about annie's powers or how important annie is to the court and to the forest. in fact, the one time kat needs help, it's paz who gets her through her emotional turmoil.
would it be so strange if she felt hurt that annie would just run off to the forest because, ohnoes, annie's past showed up? why not run to kat? why not talk to her best friend about it? oh, wait, because kat clearly doesn't give a rat's behind about annie, that's why. i mean, come on! kat's mother thought that annie ran off because of her! without any warning or justification (we don't know what jones told everyone, or how she told it, and even if we did - it's not coming from annie's mouth. she didn't exactly come back and let kat know, or even write a note, or anything except "tell kat that i love her and she shouldn't worry"), it's just selfish and hurtful. it's after the fact. it's "oh yeah, i have a friend at the court! i completely forgot! lololololol"
if anything, i could not say either of them has really emotionally matured. assuming that "maturity" means a capability to compromise and to recognize/do things for the ultimate good of yourself and others, we've got two girls who have changed, but not for the better. annie's more extroverted now, which is quite possibly healthier for her, but she's doing nothing but acting like everyone should love her anyway despite the ramifications of her summer vacation. kat's acting as hurt as expected (seeing as a) her best friend decided that the forest > kat, and b) her best friend completely disregarded any ties she had to the court whatsoever, such as reynard, and c) she did all this without a real excuse <- see above, where i complain that she could've talked to kat or anyone else about terrible traumatic things) and in the meantime she's hurting annie in self defense because she feels betrayed.
tldr: kat feels hurt because annie abandoned her for the forest without even a second thought. kat has sat about stewing in this for a whole summer. it's a miracle that kat is being civil to annie. it would probably be a herald of the apocalypse if she was willing to be hurt like that again so soon.

I wonder if there's more to it than just Annie running off to the forest. Ever since they became friends, Annie has been doing things which concerned and even exasperated Kat - getting into dangerous adventures through her meddling and almost killed as a result (like running out on the bridge in Chapter Seven), lifting Alistair off the ground to check his weight, jumping to the conclusion that Mort had given her the Blinker Stone as a stealth engagement present and yelling at him without giving him the opportunity to explain first, etc. Maybe the "running off into the forest" incident was just the book atop the unsteady pile that brings the entire stack crashing down - the real problem was the cumulative effect that Annie's actions in the past two years had been having on Kat. Her flight to the forest only caused Kat's response in the sense that the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand caused the First World War.

Kat feels hurt, you don't control how you feel, give it a rest; given how she feels, the way she reacts (calmly and frankly explaining it as opposed to keeping it to herself, exploding at Annie or being mean to her) is the best way possible; she's 13 years old come on, children that age feel hurt about way more trivial stuff and react way worse.
Likewise we can't blame Annie for having been very hurt by what she learned; she did not react in the best way possible, but given the mental trauma involved, that's understandable.
In short, stop blaming either Annie or Kat, friends have bad times, it's not like someone died and we're looking for a culprit.

For the same reason that Kat wouldn't run to Annie for issues with robotics design, anti-gravity, or molecular chemistry. "Annie, I just can't decipher the power source of these robots, what is your opinion?" No. Oh, and to avoid burning Kat to a cinder. As for what Kat knows about what happened, I've been discussing that for many topics now. I did preface my most recent post with "as far as we know" as I was getting the feeling that the question may not be answered any time soon. You see, even if Kat was told completely incorrect information about what happened, it is still not the big deal she is making it out to be, where she is stalking about stone-faced and mightily offended. It was a trip to Scotland. A. Freaking. Vacation. That's it. It was not the be all and end all of the universe. It was not even close. Kat's really gone overboard and around the bend about it. It do believe it is quite possible for a young teenage girl to have this reaction over something that is, in the final analysis, trivial. But she's hurting herself the most. As for the list of the things Kat has done for Annie, it implies there is some type of balance sheet of deeds for being friends. There isn't.

You seem to be under the impression that Kat is being all 'stone-faced and mightily offended'. Thus far, all we've seen is her tell Annie quite gently that while she understands that Annie probably had her reasons for running off to the forest, she's still a bit hurt over getting ditched, and then present an unenthusiastic reaction to Annie using an obvious, stupid plot (insultingly so, even) in a convoluted attempt to 'make [kat] be [her] friend again'. Also, Kat's literally saved her life on at least one occasion, so there sure as hell is a balance sheet there.

*walks back and forth*
theres something i've always wondered.
Annie didnt really meet or know Surma's friends, despite them being so close and despite many years of her childhood going past.
Was there a falling out of some kind? Did they refuse to see her die or disagree with her wishes to have a child [which might have been the case with eglamore atleast] or was it just their court duties, [but that doenst explain the complete absence, not even visits and annie was pretty much with her mother all the time possible they visited while she was away for a bit]
no matter the reason, it was time wasted, precious time that they had little of with surma, if they had taken the oppurtunity to invest it with her.
Kat's parents can tell their child about not wasting the time you can have with your loved one's, especially those of antimony's lineage, by using their own example.

It is a comic, it is not real. I'm sure everyone here knows that. Also, I realized that the reason Kat is acting like this is because she IS mad, but she doesn't want to be. So she just wants to cool down before she can be Annie's friend again.

Well, the way I see it, when Annie found out that everyone seemed to know about why her mother had died, and that it was because of her, she felt betrayed by the court itself, by all humans in fact. She needed to get away from humans and the court and go to the forest. Kat hadn't even crossed her mind, she was too caught up with what she had found out. That's why I think she ran to the forest and not Kat.
Also I think a lot of people are forgetting they're just kids. I can understand people accusing Annie of being selfish and unthinking and blah blah by running away if she was an adult, but she's still just a kid, and I think it was something any kid would have done. I also think the way Kat is reacting is also something any kid would do. It's a bit immature and not thinking about Annie's side of the story enough, (I mean, she just found out the reason her mom died was because of her, come on. If that doesn't require some time to go somewhere else and take a "break" from normal life for a bit and think things through, I don't know what does.) But I'm sure in the end they'll work it out, they're pretty good friends. Kat, like Annie, just needs some time to mull things over.

Did anybody point out already that we do not actually know what happened to Kat over the holiday?
There might well be other things going on that affect her mood negatively that we simply do not know about yet.

Did anybody point out already that we do not actually know what happened to Kat over the holiday? There might well be other things going on that affect her mood negatively that we simply do not know about yet. It's been pointed out a couple times already in this thread and some in the threads since comic page 853. It is a comic, it is not real. I'm sure everyone here knows that. Also, I realized that the reason Kat is acting like this is because she IS mad, but she doesn't want to be. So she just wants to cool down before she can be Annie's friend again. Plus the fact that she JUST got back (she, Annie, and Renard are the first arrivals).

It is a comic, it is not real. I'm sure everyone here knows that. Judging from this thread, I'm not sure everyone here feels it. Then again, it is very hard to interpret people's internal state from forum posts.
