Are you all reading a british comic or not?? Reversing the polarity was the fix-anything catchphrase of the Third Doctor. Honestly, people. So that's what Annie did in the forest - she and Ysengrim took in a Doctor Who marathon! Was this about the same time that Ysengrin tried to explain what Jones is? ...Jones is a Time Lord? oh, well! looking into the eye of the Untempered Schism when she was 8 triggered an unexpected gravitic shift in her molecular structure, see. highly unusual even for gallifreyans. this is why she weighs a million bazillion pounds and can punch through concrete with her fingertips! >_> <_<

Correction that doesn't affect your point: Annie has shown in the past that she can make fire that doesn't burn. We don't know if she can also start normal fires. I don't think we've seen Surma start normal fires either. In fact, other than levitation, I don't think we've actually seen Surma use her powers. Besides, there are tons of good reasons for not starting normal fires.

Logically, if her etherical flame can produce heat because she wills it to, she can start real fire by producing etherical flame on something flammable. When the object is hot enough, it will catch fire and burn like normal. She just has to will it to work that way.

We haven't seen her do it, but it stands to reason that she could, since the difference between 'warming something up' (like a person) and 'burning something' is in the intensity and duration of the heating.

One other possibility I wondered besides the "Annie and Robot are faking it to try to draw Kat back" theory:
What if this page and the one before it are a dream that Kat's having - say, she fell asleep after leaving Annie's dorm on the Friday page?

One other possibility I wondered besides the "Annie and Robot are faking it to try to draw Kat back" theory: What if this page and the one before it are a dream that Kat's having - say, she fell asleep after leaving Annie's dorm on the Friday page? Would be interesting, as this would give a view of why in particular Kat is angry with Annie. However, there is a reason why I think this is not a dream. The edges are not rounded, which generally depicts a dream or history sequence. Unless, it is from Kat's point of view and she doesn't realise she is dreaming, but this seems too convoluted for an explanation. On the other hand, it would explain the scenario, as I don't think Annie, even in her current state, would try something this ridiculous, even with no knowledge of technology. Although it would beg the question why Kat thinks Annie would try it.

On the other hand, it would explain the scenario, as I don't think Annie, (...) would try something this ridiculous, (...). When I first read the page, I had a notion that Coyote might somehow be behind this, as it looks like the sort of thing he would suggest. His prank is then successful in both possible outcomes: if Kat falls for the ruse, then Kat is tricked, if Kat doesn't, then Annie is tricked. But I discarded this idea after dwelling on it a bit, as Annie didn't look as if she really anticipated that Kat would be angry and things would need patching up.

In other news, I don't think we've seen Annie conjure a forcefield or weird scarlet illusionary flame before. She's had the ability to project arbitrary images for years. Have you already forgotten Residential?

oh man, years worth of extra story fodder right there. ...in other news: EDITED because apparently I'm repeating myself.
