I wonder.... who will Annie run to for comfort? Kat? Coyote? Jones? Parley? Mort? Is she going to Talk to the Guides themselves?
Or will she run off and find a corner away from everyone to cry herself to sleep? Will Reynardine go after her to apologize to and comfort Annie?

cry and comfort? Seriously? Annie is stone cold, she's going out to wreck someone.

So we're agreed that "Fire Spike" is a reference to Annie's first period? Excellent work, everyone.

So we're agreed that "Fire Spike" is a reference to Annie's first period? A flashback to kindergarten, learning to write, the customary way to end sentences -- a young child's poor penmanship -- a jagged dot in red crayon? Three cookies on that for tomorrow morning, please.

How did we get on menstruation? This forum is so random.
This is a comic made by a dude. I have observed that I and my fellow males are slightly discomfited by the topic of menstruation; we'd really rather not think too hard about it, and most of us don't comprehend why its beginning is such a big deal.
Which is to say, if this really is about Annie's "time of the month", I'll be rather impressed by Tom's writing. Again.

How did we get on menstruation? This forum is so random. Because people like to attribute grouchiness in females to their hormones. And certainly we may be grouchy about, you know, our spontaneously bleeding internal organs, but I find it quite easy to have appropriate levels of grouch or happy about everything else whatever time of the month it is. I personally don't see any evidence for it here. I think Annie could just be having a terrible day. I wouldn't be surprised if we get to hear about Annie's menarche when it does happen, but I don't think it's today. Maybe I'm just hoping for her sake, 'cause, man, that'd suck. I wish minimal suckitude on the lives of all my favorite imaginary people.

I feel inclined to quote Homer. Seems to fit the topic at hand.

Hahaha 10/10 would read again. I laughed so hard at "spontaneously bleeding internal organs." Seriously, dudes, you'd all be freaking out and crying if you found yourselves leaking blood for a week. Us girls get a little annoyed with the process and suddenly we're "hormonal."

Leaking blood and cramping like crazy (often during your science and math classes), let's not forget. No one is happy when they're bleeding and in pain! I know this because I have a bad habit of walking into walls and cutting open the wrong thing with steak knives. I have a variety of data on bleeding and being in pain.

Dudes definitely don't like dealing with that much blood. Quoth Southpark, "I don't trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn't die." If it was just annoyance and grouchiness, I'd be right with you. It's the random bouts of taking everything the worst possible way and crying that make me cry, "hormonal!" All that said, I also highly doubt that's what we're dealing with here. "Everyone here loved your mom, and misses her, and it's your fault she's dead, and everyone knows it" is pretty much a worst-case scenario for a kid. It's a whole bag full of secretly-believed fears, suddenly verified.

:/ i feel guilt. i've never really cramped that badly...although i might just have a high pain tolerance. also, apparently my attitude doesn't change between pms and non-pms.
at any rate, i really hope that the symbol on the title page is explained if she is just perioding...although, that'd be neat.
surma: "annie, sweetie, we need to have a talk. when you become a woman, you'll start your period, (insert awkward things), and during that time you'll wear an etheric crown."
wat.

This whole Surma dying thing reminded me of this jewish legend I once read about. Supposedly there is this group of 36 special people (the "tzadikim nistarim") who keep humanity alive just by existing and justifying the human race to god. They're replaced when they realize they fulfill this role but as long as there are 36 of them, god keeps the earth turning or something like that. I'm guessing there's something like that going on, and Annie knocked Surma out of some important role she fulfilled, so Surma had to disappear. (am i stating the obvious here? I don't really read the forums on the regular.) Ouch. (That homework is still not being done/copied). haha oh, legion, always keeping those priorities straight The one little, but oh so very crucial detail, that we still don't know for certain is: Did Surma herself know? Kinda seems so. At least, after the fact. In that context, I can't really see anything else she would be referring to. Mind, I suppose that still leaves it up for whether or not she knew it was because of Antimony. Maybe we can take it on face value that when Reynard said all, he really meant all? that chapter is soooo fucking cinematic. how very lion king

Having Annie's behavior based on "that time of month" rather than having just learned disturbing information about her mother would be a phenomenal cop-out, and I hope that Tom is *not* going in that direction.

For all those hoping for blood running down Annie's leg ala Carrie, I'm hoping she carries one of these:
I admit I'm not sure why the tampons have to be extra absorbent, but OK.

It can't be one of Coyote's gifts gone awry. They knew it would happen if Surma had a child. No one can tell how one of Coyote's gifts would go awry until after it DOES go awry and this is something that can only go wrong once. (Its not like they found out Surma would die if she had a child because she already had died because she had a child.)
