They're still weeping.
Jeanne has been projecting her distilled, concentrated grief directly into their minds this whole time.

The first thing my boyfriend said when he saw this page is "Annie is totally groping Kat in panel 3!!!11"
Le sigh.
My vote is that Parley teleports her ass out of there... with her boytoy.

So apparently Smitty's ability to bring order to chaos finally worked on Parley's feelings. (OK, not really, but I had to say it.) Glad they got out of that unharmed, Jeanne was pretty scary. Q_Q

Parley is seriously shaken up. Man...
When their etheric selves slammed back into their bodies you could almost hear the etheric "WHAM!"

So has anyone else predicted that Annie is the "coward heart" in this chapter? She went down to try and help Jeanne but when she saw her all she did was stand (float?) there; it was Parley (specifically her heart) who got Jeanne to open up and reveal her past, even if the only purpose was to explain why she was justified to kill the two of them; and when the sword started swinging, all Annie could do was direct Parley in where to kick (while keeping Annie from being cut); really, Annie's only purpose was providing Parley's etheric self with transportation to and from the bottom of the cliff, and crying at the sad sad story. Just my take on a possible meaning for the title of the chapter (there are other valid interpretations, naturally). Anyone agree/disagree? EDIT: additional qualifications

Well....Annie's not exactly a fighter. Plus, Parley's the one that's in love (thus the gleaming heart).
Annie couldn't have done much whether or not she was a coward. :/

Nah, personally I don't think the reason for the chapter title has been revealed yet.

I don't think Annie was necessarily a coward for sitting there and not doing anything... I really think that would have been any normal person's reaction to this situation. She was just lucky (or unlucky?) that Parley showed up, and had some sword combat experience to cover their asses.
Then again, this could be a great chance for Tom to explore Annie's insecurities... Annie is always such a closed book, almost always composed.
So I guess you could be right. At the same time, I'm inclined to disagree, because Annie has never been a coward with scary shit before.
I think there's more to this chapter.

I guessed they'd bail out of there safely and it turned out to be true, lucky for them. They've got a LOT of things to deal with now, and it'll be interesting to see how both of them cope.

At first I thought Parley had slapped Annie in the second panel. She's gonna be hella pissed at Annie when she gets over her initial shock.

I always assumed Jeanne was the coward. I mean, holding onto her hate and rage all these years and taking it out on innocent, helpless children even? Parley is in love too, and Jeanne was obviously jealous and enraged. Not very becoming of a lady of her stature.

To qualify my statement a little more, when she talked to Kat about it earlier, she mentioned that the reason she couldn't do anything was because she became scared and didn't face her fears. This time she went back to face those fears, and promptly let them paralyze her again (she ended up retreating for a second time now). On the more wild speculation side of things, I think (from a story-telling perspective) the reason she would be the coward heart would be to trigger a period of self analysis-type character development (why am I so afraid, am I really cut out for this type of work, etc), which would lead to some external mentor (Kat, Jones, etc) or event (learning to fight with a sword/coyote-tooth, facing another but less dangerous angry spirit, etc) helping her look at her fear in a new light, and either give her the strength to overcome said fear, or help teach her that there are some things she'll never be able to do on her own and she'll always need friends to help support her (which would be a nice complement to the lesson a couple chapters ago). EDIT: Then again, this could be a great chance for Tom to explore Annie's insecurities... Annie is always such a closed book, almost always composed. Haha, way to sum up my huge bock of text in one sentence! ;D ( wow I ramble when I’m off my Adderall)

I don't think it counts as first base if you're out of your mind with terror.

When you've been swallowed by a whole lot of void [such as grief, even if it was someone elses pushed into your mind] the first thing you do is to try and fill that feeling of loss and sadness with warmth and well...a good cuddle with that someone we love feels amazing. Fulfiling.
So yes! Like a vice!

Some teleporting is in order now. Possibly to a certain bed again. Or just to get the party far from the ravine.

Parley is in love too, and Jeanne was obviously jealous and enraged. Not very becoming of a lady of her stature. I think that is not so much a choice as it is the nature of most ghosts. They become like elemental incarnations of certain powerful emotions, often related to their deaths. So it is not so much that Jeanne is holding onto her rage and taking it out on anyone she meets, but that there is nothing else TO her. The rest of herself is either gone, or buried so deep it would take an expert medium to reach it. Or I could be completely off, here. Wouldn't be the first time.
