Huh. For some reason, I can't help but think "Boss Fight."
I'm going to have to disagree with the sentiment expressed by some people here: I don't think this counts as Annie undertaking dangerous investigation on her own, foregoing the potential help of authority. My guess is that she and Kat pretty much thought of this as an obvious, harmless, risk-free way of getting a look down there. As far as they know (knew?), nothing could harm her when in the ether-state.

Even though Coyote mentioned the cut, Annie didn't seem to believe him, and as he changed the subject quickly she certainly wasn't shown connecting the cut to Jeanne. That's information we as the audience have that nobody in the story knows yet. As far as she knew, she was totally safe.

I've literally only just wondered whether Jeanne, having lost touch with humanity somewhat, cannot tell the difference between people and was checking to see if Annie was in fact Jones. We know swords normally bounce of Jones' face. Perhaps Jeanne has some beef with Jones. That is, if Jones is secretly as old as I think she is

Well we know Zimmy has trouble telling between real people and her illusions. It wouldn't surprise me that a distinctly etheric being like Jeanne's ghost, trapped as she is, might have the same problem. And Annie's ether-form, looking almost as real as her body-form would be even more confusing to a ghost who hasn't seen anything like that in a good long while.

Jeanne: Hey did you drop this? Annie: Why yes, thank you. Jeanne: No problem.

Question: Is Annie speaking out loud up at the doors? Previously, when they tried to throw the stone down, Annie said it landed wrong before retrieving the stone, so she presumably was still "out of body". If so, Kat and Andrew are probably getting really worried now. I think she's speaking out loud, yeah...if you compare to her speech-bubbles in chapter 26 (when she's talking in the ether), they look different. Not so different from Chapter 24 though. And 26 has special art, so it's not a good baseline.

Wouldn't it be terrible if Jeanne stabbed Annie's eyeballs out, so that whenever she goes into the ether she can't see any of the pretty colors??

Was I the only one who freaked out when Annie couldn't get back??? My claustrophobia kicked in right at that very second O.o Mine did, too, and I'm not usually claustrophobic. Ugh, what a horrible experience. Yet another option that might happen: Jeannie swings, and severs Annie's hair. Breaking the link between her spirit and her body will probably have rather dramatic consequences, but if she get back, probably nothing permanent. Might stop her use of the blinker stone afterwards, though. Great idea, blackmantha! The consequences might be rather serious, though. Annie has always either been connected via her hair to either the blinker stone (when seeing through the stone) or her own body. If she's not connected to either, then she might be stranded like Jeanne is. Hmm... I said a few weeks ago that it could be bad if Annie got her hair cut; let's hope you and I are wrong! The real question is, if this Important Haircut makes such a significant change in Kat's perspective and behavior, what would one do for Annie? Not that I want to see Annie with short hair (I love her long hair) but something tells me that if it ever were to happen, major changes would be afoot or about to happen. And they wouldn't all be roses and happiness.

Hmm... a more specific version of the idea that Jeanne is checking whether Annie is a plant or something. Jeanne: Hey did you drop this? Annie: Why yes, thank you. Jeanne: No problem. THE BLINKER STONE RUSE WAS A........... DISTACTION i HAVE the hoverbike

Looking over the page again, and the last time we saw Jeanne, I just love how she doesn't look in the least bit malevolent. She just looks...disinterested.

How often does stuff happen down there that Jeanne can even interact with?
Perhaps it's just that she would be bored to death, if she weren't already dead?
First time she saw Annie, it was "Hey, you're different - what are you? Poke poke, oops, that cut, so - GAH! BRIGHT LIGHT!"
This time: "Ooh, shiny rock. And hey, I can pick it up! Wait, haven't I seen you before?"

How often does stuff happen down there that Jeanne can even interact with? Not often at all. I assume not too many people or things go down there except for Forest residents who wish to take the test, and they should be on the far side. There probably isn't even sunlight down there except for a couple hours per day. First time she saw Annie, it was "Hey, you're different - what are you? Poke poke, oops, that cut, so - GAH! BRIGHT LIGHT!" Of course. Scientific test #1: Poke it.If she's been down there so long that she's starting to become confused she may have no idea why she's killing things. I suppose that confusion or boredom might make her cold in the sense that she might play with something instead of killing it efficiently and painlessly, but that would be the cruelty of a child who doesn't understand what she's doing and not sadism. Except with Diego I don't think we've ever seen Jeanne display any sort of hostility. This time: "Ooh, shiny rock. And hey, I can pick it up! Wait, haven't I seen you before?" Maybe Antimony thinks that if she can get Jeanne to say, "Wha, a blinker stone!? F'sooth strumpet I swing not in thine direction!" that means Jeanne will not attack Antimony with the sword. But bad wordplay aside I still think the blinker stone will enable some sort of Vulcan mind meld.
