I think it's time for etheric Annie to cut her losses and go back home, if she still can.
Sucks to give up the blinker stone. Maybe she'll still be able to use it to learn something about Jeanne.

If anyone is going to rescue Annie, my money is on Jack to come flying in. Edit: Also, I find it funny that Jones has just told Annie that she doesn't need to handle everything on her own, yet here she is.

Edit: Also, I find it funny that Jones has just told Annie that she doesn't need to handle everything on her own, yet here she is. I'm sure that won't be lost on Jones, either. On the other hand, Jones is the one that encouraged her to investigate this one on her own. Annie really should run her etheric plans past someone more knowledgeable first, but this is a particularly tricky situation - the Forest doesn't know what's down there, and the Court willingly forgot. It would be unwise to let Rey know what's down there(she trusts him to an extent, but this is a potentially an 'I must tell my country or be a traitor' situation). Anyone else who could help her is either strongly affiliated with the Court or dedicated to protecting her. That said, while help would perhaps not be so easy to find, they did seem to be going about this whole thing rather lightheartedly.

It doesn't look too much longer until we see this scene, or something like it. Strange about what Muut said, though. "Lost, stranded ithe aether, she needs a hand like yours to be an anchor." If anything, it seems like Jeanne is anchored to this place, and needs to be set free.

My bet is that Jeanne's going to start looking belligerent with that sword, and Annie is going to mention Diego and what he did to her and get her to stop and listen.

Time to pose as a team. Or maybe it's Annie-stew on friday. It's a little early in a chapter for etheric Annie to be cut into pieces. Perhaps just holding the blinker stone helps increase ghost-Jeanne's awareness so she can do more than stab (e.g. fling French insults).

Annie really should run her etheric plans past someone more knowledgeable first, but this is a particularly tricky situation - the Forest doesn't know what's down there, and the Court willingly forgot. True, but the Court deliberately forgot a long time ago. Nobody now living participated in that decision or is in any way responsible for it - or, aside from Annie, Kat, and the robots, is even aware it occurred. (Assuming that the aforementioned haven't told anyone else.) Oh, and I figure that Annie probably thinks she dreamed Jeanne's attacking her. She doesn't realize that she has a cut on her ethereal face. And Kat can't see it. So as far as the kids were aware before now, Jeanne is harmless to them.

Question: Is Annie speaking out loud up at the doors? Previously, when they tried to throw the stone down, Annie said it landed wrong before retrieving the stone, so she presumably was still "out of body". If so, Kat and Andrew are probably getting really worried now. I think she's speaking out loud, yeah...if you compare to her speech-bubbles in chapter 26 (when she's talking in the ether), they look different.

But there's still this general animosity between the two. Annie wants to help Jeanne, not give either faction some inadvertent advantage over the other. I guess that's what I was having trouble putting into words.

It doesn't look too much longer until we see this scene, or something like it. Oh, good thought! Assuming that was foreshadowing, and not just an illustration of what Muut wanted to happen, this may turn out all right. My fervent hope, however, is that the ghost of Steadman comes to the rescue, momentarily distracting Jeanne with his sexy ghost-body.

Oh holy Barcelona this can't be good. Fill in the blank: Oh snap! It's ______ to the rescue! a) Daddy Carver b) Coyote c) Ysengrin d) Annie's quick wit My bets are on a or c. At first, I immediately wrote off A, but it is getting to be time to see him, isn't it? Or have I got the timeline mixed up? I also find it interesting that Jeanne's ghost, while clearly etheric in effect, is still gray and "lifeless" - etherically dead.

I agree with Aaroncampbell 'cause I think the blinker stone will enable some sort of contact that couldn't happen before.
Also we're due for a flashback.

Note how Jeanne's ghost looks the same in the ether as in physical world, unlike the other beings of pure spirit we've met so far. The only creatures of pure spirit we've met are ghosts. Coyote and Pals have physical bodies in addition to their strong aetheric presence. Hmmm. Kat can see Mort, and the fairies could see Jeanne, so Kat could probably actually see Jeanne if she was where she could look down into the ravine. Which she's not.

Hmm, makes me wonder what Mort looks like in the etherium. Anyways, this was a pretty big shocker and goes right back to Rey's warning about spying. My guess is that she'll be in danger, Jeanne will actually communicate with her, and then something topside while sever her connection.

She can't, that's what she's saying. She hasn't even TRIED retrieving the blinker stone (she has to touch it to do that, remember). Jeanne is actually holding Annie's spirit along with the stone: notice how Annie's hair loops around into the blinker stone in Jeanne's hand. Annie's stuck here, probably until Jeanne lets her go or until someone comes along to save her, and if Jeanne's still feeling slash-happy things could get very grim for our plucky heroine very quickly.

This is not shocking at all. I've been thinking "you are in so much danger" at my computer screen for the last two or three comics. Annie has got to listen to Reynardine more often.

Narrator-Annie said, back at the end of Ch 14, that she wouldn't hear from Tony for at least two years. Tom has said that the events of Ch 15 through 22 covered the first half of year 8 (ie about six months). Unless there's been more time-skipping than usual between Ch 22 and now, it's unlikely that a full year has passed since Ch 14.

What if the stone was once Jeanne's? Does chucking it down there to her burial site sort of count as Giving It Back? Much excitement for future pages!

That's an interesting idea. It would explain why Muut decided to give her a blinker stone in the first place - not just to help Jeanne. He would be the kind to give her a *specific* stone, and not tell her....or she would just get even more upset and ditch the entire effort. Apparently just enough is riding on Annie being able to help Jeanne to call for the stone to be used.

Yet another option that might happen: Jeannie swings, and severs Annie's hair. Breaking the link between her spirit and her body will probably have rather dramatic consequences, but if she get back, probably nothing permanent. Might stop her use of the blinker stone afterwards, though.

Hmmm, Annie hasn't learnt much from her last Zimmingham experience and detention.
I suspect Jeanne won't be so quick with the stabby-stab, this time.
Hmmm, actually Jeanne seems to be drawn to Annie. Remember she crossed the Annan waters to stab Annie in face, which she wasn't supposed to be able to do. Facing apparently dangerous things seems to be a theme when dealing with the dead, and if we ignore the face stabbing (which didn't actually hurt Annie much - if Jeanne really wanted to kill she could have done a better job of it) and the facts she is a ghost, Jeanne could be seen as simply trying to reach out to Annie. Probably because she is so attractive.
But this would tie everything up much too quickly. Next comic - cut to Kat and Smitty back on school grounds. Bored, Andrew kicks a pebble, which through an improbable series of rebounds hits Annie's blinker stone destroying/knocking it into the river, freeing Annie.
Hmmm, but that would tie the chapter up a bit too quickly.
Uhhh, Jeanne shows Annie something?
