If i had to guess, less to do etheric spiders and more about "WOOHOO!! Let's party in the house with the TV and the Wii and the working shower and stay up all night and watch the laser show with the grownups stuck outside and omigod what did Jack put in this punch?"

Haha,oh Annie! Missing Reynardine so bad until you couldn't sleep? Wow. Either that or Annie put on extra make up to look like she had eye bags just to mess with Rey's head.

Okay, quick poll. The first thing that came into your mind was...what?
It may just be me, but I pictured wild parties going too far before etheric-spider induced sickness. I knew neither was the case, but that's what I though Rey was thinking. The fact that the title looks a lot like "Abstinence and Hearts" didn't help either.

What with Mrs. Sutton being a green fairy dryad.

Okay, quick poll. The first thing that came into your mind was...what? I'm thinking Mudmaniac is right about the staying up all night and having fun part, maybe not about the spiked punch part. But... it would be funny if Bob and Marcia forgot to lock up the elderberry wine and the GC gang solved the mystery of "How many shots can William handle before he ralphs?"

Looks like our intrepid heroes stayed up all night ;D
This is off-topic, but I would love to have a house like Bob and Marcia's

Okay, quick poll. The first thing that came into your mind was...what? Very first thought was "oh, they're back at the school, all of our guesses were wrong", but my second thought was "is Annie hungover?", and apparently I wasn't the only one. I'm betting they all stayed up way too late (given that they're only 12yo 'too late' could be as early as 11). To be fair though, I could spend all night on the Wii. If they played Resort I bet Janet got all annoyed at the archery because it's nothing like in real life and she was terrible at it.

This page is bound to appeal to anyone who thinks that Annie and Reynardine should be a couple (though I don't think that Annie would have to be romantically attracted to Reynardine to miss him - she might see him as more like a family member instead).

Annie is such a little minx. I do tend to forget because she is so serious a lot of the time!

If i had to guess, less to do etheric spiders and more about " [...] and omigod what did Jack put in this punch?" Well, it's not like these things were incompatible... Ether-spider liqueur: the same as the usual variety, only with extra raccoon eyes the next morning. ;D Hmm... Consider: laser cow distillery. After all, they got both lasers and freeze beams... By the way, there also reputed to exist such thing as "Bose-Einstein cocktail": they start with ethanol in a metal vessel, then liquid nitrogen ( yes) is poured there until alcohol is all half-frozen, then they add this to the juice in cups (using spoons) and wait until the convection stops before drinking <shudder>. It's "don't try this at home or at all" sort of thing, but i wonder how such a freeze-beam would modify the process. Hahaha, I find it funny that none of our guesses about the bonus page were right. Naturally.

I did not notice Reynardine's concerned paw on Annie's knee in the third panel, until I read someone pointing it out in the on-page comments.
Poor concerned Rey. I almost expected Annie to say "Gotcha!"

"Absence and hearts? What? What does absence have to do with hearts? Oh. Wait. I get it now." *forehead slaps* Annie looks more teenager-ish in the third panel than we've ever seen her before (isn't it this chapter the first time we've even seen her in pants, much less jeans?). And you know what? I like it. Given Reyardine's concerned stuttering and paw, I think it's official, guys. Reynardine genuinely cares for Annie. Fire up the metaphorical speculative controversy engines!

Annie's ruse seems more directed towards the reader than towards Reynardine; why wouldn't he expect her to come back bleary and with some story of consuming too much gin and mince pies and getting five years of detention for some disproportionate revenge scheme? The audience, knowing more, would initially wonder if this involved spiders somehow, but they'd also not expect this to play out in a bonus page, so the result is a bit weird.

Annie's ruse seems more directed towards the reader than towards Reynardine; Kind of like the first page of that video game intermission between Chapters Eighteen and Nineteen (given Annie's lack of interest in video games, it's hard to imagine her, even with Kat being her best friend, wanting to come along for something that is just Kat striking a pose rather than a genuinely serious situation).

She wore trousers of some sort for the spacemonaut uniform - and I think in Chapter Nineteen as well. But, yes, I think she is heading towards teenagerhood and away from pre-adolescence. Though we'd have to expect it, given that by the time her sixth year at Gunnerkrigg ends (and I assume it'll be in the comic) she'll be 16-17.

b) Perhaps, since we started with Annie checking on Reynardine, the bonus page will end with some insight into what he's been up to without Annie there to watch/entertain him. Well, I wasn't exactly right, but I think I did at least call a 'return to Reynardine.' What great Annie faces. How many of those will get turned into avatars before the next comic is up? EDIT: As for Rey/Annie romance? I think that would be much too weird for all concerned at the moment. Rey still calls Annie "child" every other speech bubble. Whether that's because Rey loved/loves Surma, or because Rey is who-knows-how-many-years-and-loves-old, or just because Annie is freaking 12/13 (??) years old, I don't know, but it certainly gets in the way of amorous feelings.

I did not notice Reynardine's concerned paw on Annie's knee in the third panel, until I read someone pointing it out in the on-page comments. Was just going to point that out. This is off-topic, but I would love to have a house like Bob and Marcia's It is a nice place, very...distinguished. Apparently gardening/whatever-you-call-the-thing-with-the-bound-plants are rather successful occupations in the court. Okay, quick poll. The first thing that came into your mind was...what? Fourth panel of this. Shortly followed by me remembering my own experience camping in grade 8, leading into the common 'drinking too much' theory. I wonder if Tom realized his audience was filled with so many alcoholics. Maybe? I usually just default with thinking that everyone is a little bit of one. Kind of like the first page of that video game intermission between Chapters Eighteen and Nineteen (given Annie's lack of interest in video games, it's hard to imagine her, even with Kat being her best friend, wanting to come along for something that is just Kat striking a pose rather than a genuinely serious situation). Ever played MGS4? It is a serious situation. A genuinely serious situation. But, yes, I think she is heading towards teenagerhood and away from pre-adolescence. Though we'd have to expect it, given that by the time her sixth year at Gunnerkrigg ends (and I assume it'll be in the comic) she'll be 16-17. I wonder every now and again how much everyone will have changed by then. Then I realize that it is merely something that will come to pass in due time, and that there is no need fussing over it now. Shhhh... If you don't really pay attention to shipper talk, then it won't trouble you.
