Annie's expression in the last panel is just beautiful. As is Ysengrin's face in panel 4.

Next panel: The Jimmy Jims bullet arrives from stage right.

If there's bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed, no!.. It's just a springclean, for the May Queen.
Mid panel is gorgeous, and chillingly scary!
(although I wonder why a guy who trleports through trees let Annie get away from him in thevfirst place? Possibly not thinking too clearly at the moment!?)

The last panel looks a little off to me. It's like Annie suddenly grew a couple cup sizes.

The suspension point indicates seriousness on Tom's behalf. Next on Gunnerkrigg: Out favourite Deus ex P.E. Teacher appears to save the day.
My guess is Annie's expression reflects she can only think about what Eglamore will do to Ysengrin should he find him like this.

Theory: this is a smart-ass trap by Coyote to find Eglamore in the forest without permission and attacking Coyote's chief lieutenant to boot.

My guess is Annie's expression reflects she can only think about what Eglamore will do to Ysengrin should he find him like this. Yeah, seems to be that. She knows (or thinks) that he's just having a really ( really) bad temper tantrum, but Eglamore won't. And his "indoors, and at close range, Jones would flatten me" quote from way back here suggests that he's at his most powerful outdoors, and at long range, both of which are present here.

I hope Eglamore doesn't kill/seriously injure/imprison Ysengrim on the next page... All bets are off when someone summons you to fight a monster for them, but Annie would never forgive herself. Y will certainly be fighting for keeps; he might have stayed his hand from Annie herself, but not her PE teacher I suspect.

It turns out the beacon does nothing, it was just to make her feel safer, the real beacon was in her heart all along~

I thought Eglamore has already arrived in the last panel (because, zero) and Annie's expression is the result of seeing him instantly do nasty things to Ysengrim. But that's not very realistic I suppose ;-)
And I suppose his first priority would be just to snatch Annie and get the hell out of there. Assuming he keeps his cool.

Of everything on this page, from Ysengrin's rage to Annie's pity to what might become of him, the thing that actually freaks me out the most are the ellipsis (ellipses?) Tom used instead of his usual remark on the page.
LIKE gosh golly FRIDAY GET OVER HERE NAO.

What if the beacon doesn't call him physically? What if he's there etherically? What if he's advising her right now?

I did have the ludicrous thought of Annie running away screaming 'Mad God! Mad God!' But that would have impliedu she thought Y was funny.

Theory: this is a smart-ass trap by Coyote to find Eglamore in the forest without permission and attacking Coyote's chief lieutenant to boot. Oh man, that would be devious! I thought Eglamore has already arrived in the last panel (because, zero) and Annie's expression is the result of seeing him instantly do nasty things to Ysengrim. But that's not very realistic I suppose ;-) And I suppose his first priority would be just to snatch Annie and get the hell out of there. Assuming he keeps his cool. That's how I read it also. Assuming Eglamore wasn't blowing smoke about the 5 seconds thing, this would be just about right.

Just 20-something pages and a few stories and secrets ago, Annie and Ysengrin were like this (I especially love panel 1.) I wonder what is Annie seeing of Ysengrin etherically now? Having that additional perspective would only heighten her pity in the last panel of today's page, I imagine. Watching a friend self-destruct is hard enough; seeing what it does to the true them must be much harder. And then having to call an intervention by enlisting the help of another friend, when you know that it is not going to be pretty? What a tough decision to make. ...

Whatever happened, she's no longer predominantly afraid but sad.

Throughout this bit with Ysengrin rampaging I kept thinking of a quote from back in chapter 17: "creatures of the forest try to assert their importance by posturing and baring their teeth because that is the way of the animal kingdom." from www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=389and I've been wondering if Ys would really hurt Annie if he caught up to her or if he was just trying to be taken seriously. I'm thinking Annie's reaction might be because she just realized that he was never going to hurt her and now she's put him in a lot of trouble because she misunderstood him. Oh, first post also.

Ugh, Tom, I hate you. No, of course I don't. But I'm holding my breath for two entire days now.
And I wouldn't have thought of the last panel as the result of Eglamore showing up, so, thanks, guys.

I think if Ysengrin had reached Annie she would get hurt. There's a difference between posturing and chasing. If Ysengrin doesn't live after this or come back to his sense again I'll miss him. I feel bad for Annie because she lost a friend.

I don't know. Consider this; an animal snarling at you is just trying to make you stop. It doesn't mean they're going to attack, but what happens if you continue antagonizing the animal? Snarling can turn in to actual violence in a moment's notice. At some point the warning and posturing turns in to an actual promise to hurt you or kill you. You see a wild wolf. Would you antagonize it even if it wasn't snarling? It could still turn and rip you open WITHOUT a warning if you piss it off. Even if you didn't mean to. The wolf doesn't get that you weren't trying to bother it. Yssy might be able to talk, but he's still a wolf.

Wild speculation: Eggers shows up in a bathrobe and towel wrapped around his head, with a toothbrush hanging out of his mouth.
