...and the winner of this 48 hours period of wild speculation is... i don't expect anything resembling what the chapter is really about until Wednesday At least we know Tony's about to get burned. That's the most I can ask for.

Zimmy's hair looks more and more like Annie's the lower in the page it goes.
I'm going to guess that Annie will be horrified if she learns that Zimmy hijacked her soul (?) to punch her dad in the face.
Kat will laugh.

Anthony doesn't have the decency to show his face even when it's getting punched. Typical.

YES. YEEEEESSSSSSS. Hahahahahah! WOO!
Emotional satisfaction!
EDIT: also, looks like Zimmy knows FALCON PUNCH. She truly is a demon...
As for the Zimmy/Annie issue, I think that in some way it's genuinely both of them. And that the scar at the start was Annie... Latching on? I bet Zimmy's something of an ether filtration device, like, and picked up an Annie distress flare or something.

If Zimmy thought to say it with flowers, she'd probably uproot a stinging tree (not nettle, *tree*... serious ouchies!)
However... I don't think Tony's any pushover. We'll see what comes back on Monday.

Wow, that's pretty... wow. I doubt you can do something like that to Anthony without consequences, though.

So one thing I think is curious about Zimmy is that despite being a wild child with no formal training, she has shown over these last few pages to have a pretty good understanding of different etheric things.
I don't know whether this is because she sees etheric stuff all the time, so she can learn from it, but how else would she know fairly advanced stuff about the ether?

Hm, she doesn't seem to be doing anything very 'refined'- sort of having a poke about in Annie's head, grabbing onto Tony's fingerbombs and riding them into space to punch him in the face (OH GOD HOW IS SHE SO AWESOME), all that stuff seems like it would be a bit second nature to her because she lives and breathes ether? Plus, I suspect Annie's kind of helping her out... like, how else would Zimmy "recognise" anthony? I think at least a part of annie is with Zimmy. Or this is all Annie, and she's taking on Zimmy's face so she can do what she always wanted to by using Zimmy's devil may care attitude? I don't think that's the case, but there's a reason we're seeing annies face on this page. As for Zimmy reaping consequences of this... well, maybe, but I don't think Anthony could be prepared for Zimmy. I mean, he's never met her- she arrived at the court after he left, didn't she? Do we really know the last time Annie saw tony, anyway?

I like how punching Zimmy's other hand is near a heart shape amongst the flames. Zimmy being the protector perhaps?
Also, there were two figures in the weird Antony-world, are we sure this is Antony? Curious we haven't seen his face. The punching is kinda awesome though, I'll give Zimmy (and Tom) that.
EDIT: Another observation that's a bit random. He's got a short sleeved white shirt on much like the one the Annie had that little transformation into. Not sure what to make of that.

This is pretty awesome, but I'm still disappointed we won't have any answers soon. It's interesting though that where ever Anthony is, he seems to be surrounded by flames, and that white-hot glow that surrounded the fire elemental too. Or is it just the white glow, and the flames are all Zimmy/Annie's making? Or is the glow just him getting punched so hard there was a random explosion? So one thing I think is curious about Zimmy is that despite being a wild child with no formal training, she has shown over these last few pages to have a pretty good understanding of different etheric things. I don't know whether this is because she sees etheric stuff all the time, so she can learn from it, but how else would she know fairly advanced stuff about the ether? She was described as being in tune with the ether similarly to Coyote, so the etheric world is probably equally real to her as the regular one. She probably has an instinctive knowledge of how to manipulate it in ways that regular people need to be taught.

WOW gorgeous page!
Shame Zimmy is about to get sucked into Tony's fire elemental reactor! OK that's just my crazy theory but if you have a daughter and potential power source you'd make use of it too.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, but Zimmy has gone thru a period of "I AM ANTIMONY" when she was affected by the Power Station. I feel more and more convinced that something has happened to Annie that has caused her to go thru a similar bout of "I AM ZIMMY". Mostly it's Jeanne's Cut. I don't believe anyone else can have it, even in illusion.

Uh-oh, this isn't gonna end well.
By the way, in case anyone missed it, Zimmy is wearing short sleeves in the last "frame" (lower right)

Uh-oh, this isn't gonna end well. Indeed. Hit first, ask questions afterwards is a classic recipe for disaster... By the way, in case anyone missed it, Zimmy is wearing short sleeves in the last "frame" (lower right) That's the person Zimmy is hitting. Won't it be interesting if it turns out not to be Anthony after all...

When I think about Annie and Zimmy in the same context together, I always think of toxic sludge from a giant machine or factory being burned. This page smells really strong but also really clean like it's been purified by a fire. I don't know that's not really a useful observation I'm just talking about aesthetics.
Tony always seemed like a long-sleeved-shirt-wearing kinda guy to me, but the only person known to wear their cuffs up that high is Smitty and I sincerely doubt that's him.
So am I weird for not demonizing Tony? Most people seem to think he's devilspawn because he abandoned Annie, but I don't really hate him. That was kind of a jerk move, but he left her in the care of loving, trusted friends, in a (mostly) safe environment, where she could learn more about herself and other people. Being a single father is hard, and I imagine that her current family is just as capable, if not MORE capable, of giving her love, emotional support, and wisdom that she needs. And she's working to help people here. Coming to the court might be one of the best things that happened to her. And Tony still loves her, that's for sure. He might have been cold, but he cared deeply for Surma, and I'd certainly bet that he cares dearly about their only daughter, and possessor of her spirit. It's been evidenced in Microsat 5, when he made a point of contacting her. I'd like to imagine that he has a reason for hiding, and that it bothers him that he's not there for her.
I'm not saying that he shouldn't be there for her, he SHOULD, and I'm not saying that he even has a great reason for not being there, (though, I like to think he has an at LEAST adequate one) but I am saying that he's still a person, and he's got justifications and emotions behind his motives. Sometimes people do things that hurt other people when faced with a tough choice, and sometimes you need to hurt someone you love, even if you don't want to.
I don't know whatever.
This has been a post in defense of Anthony Carver I guess.

I still think he's trying to kill her. www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=815That skull, man. That's not... that's not the skull of a man who loves his daughter. I know people say he spent years trying to save his wife so he can't be all bad- but I say he spent years trying to save his wife. Maybe he never stopped trying.

MSN nudge, Zimmy style!
Zimmy: "I'm here, yo beetch!" Annie: "Are you hitting on my dad, Zimmers?" Tony: "Unacceptable!"

How typical that I, who just started reading GC, end up in the middle of a super dramatic arc. And now I have to wait 'till next week for another comic. God, it sucks finishing the archives on a new comic.. xD Yeah, what was up with that fox skull? Anything to do with Renard?

Hi All,
I'm a long time reader/lurker who's been hooked on this comic since the moment I first saw it. How's that for a generic introduction, since I'm sure that describes almost everyone here? :-)
This page got me thinking about Zimmy, and I really do think that this is mostly her, with the etheric/spirit aspect of Annie having instinctively reached out to her for help (the scar and reddish hair as the sign of this). Gamma recognized this, and forced Zimmy to face a part of who she is that she's spent most of her life running from or fighting. Once Zimmy got in there, though, and ultimately saw the damage (? It looks like damage to me. I think Tony is likely not trying to kill her deliberately, but is trying to remove that aspect and is willing to experiment on her without her knowledge or consent to do so, and if it changes her nature or spirit, he doesn't seem too concerned. Maybe in a way he feels he's honoring Surma by performing this operation to potentially save Annie...or he's trying to free the spirit and put it back into Surma's dead body, which he's kept in cold storage all this time...just kidding...I think...) Zimmy realized that this is a situation she could handle. Not only handle, but help save a friend who has helped her in the past. As abrasive and crude as Zimmy could be, I still have the feeling that she has a rough loyalty to people she has any level of care for. She teases Kat, but I could see her wiping the floor with someone else going after her, and Zimmy clearly noticed that Kat has a massive hatred of how Tony treats her best friend. Zimmy's probably going to trust that perception, having someone similar - Gamma - in her life. That line, "Message from your little girl, mate!" as she punches an absentee father whom she's literally watching drain the "fight" out of Annie, tells me that. She saw herself as a messenger/defender of Annie, and as Annie as this guy's little girl, one that he should be treating better and isn't. She got to use her relationship with the etheric world as a power to wield (and as a good guy!) not run from...how awesome must that feel for her? Whether or not her actions inadvertently hurt Annie (I really hope they don't), and whatever Tony's intentions and own actions were, at the very least he's learned that Annie's a real person who shouldn't just be experimented on, and that she's got friends who are willing to fight for her. I can't wait to see what happens.
And....this is why I don't post often on forums. The train of thought goes on and on and on.... :-)

This whole affair feels strangely out of character for the comic. That's not a derogatory remark, mind you. The rabid fanboys can cease their plots to rip my throat out. It's just an observation.
Zimmy lends a very.. "Fuck it, we're doing this thing." feel to it. Sure, she had to be forced in to finally taking action, but when Zimmy does take action it tends to be.. decisive? Both instances of her showing off her stuff involve getting right to the point of bashing the thing to fix problems. If this were just about any other character, they'd probably run around questioning everything for forty pages first.
Again, nothing derogatory meant here. I just think the difference is interesting. Zimmy is not at all inquisitive, and she genuinely just wants to be left to her own devices. If a strange thing disturbs her, she just punches to go back about her business all the quicker. Someone like Annie actually, you know, cares what the hell is going on in the world.

Man, some of you guys have all sorts of fantastic analysis going on in here.
Mostly I just wanted to note that it looks like we're seeing the BACK of whoever it is Zimmy's punching, and also that the second "panel" makes those bone-things look a lot more like some sort of overstretched elastic, so maybe it's because of the blinker stone after all?

Can I...can I marry this page? I think I've fallen for it, haha
I was expecting something cool but not Zimmy etherically punching Tony in the face (if that is Tony...). I still think Tony was trying to help Annie somehow. After seeing another side to him last chapter, I just can't see him turning out to be evil just yet
