Oh boy oh boy a flashback. Anthony looks handsomer than in the last flashback of him in school.

For those familiar with Wagner, Brünnhilde is not the type to take "no" for an answer.

Hah, true. As Tom has said (something to this effect) before about people guessing the trajectory of this comic: imagine a dart board, and it is riddled with darts. Some are bound to hit the bull's eye. :3

Flashback, yay! Rare insight into Anthony Carver, yay! (I hope ;-) ) I think they are a fair bit older than in "Ties", somewhen around the "girls flashback" (you know which I mean).

Brinnie definitely looks older than she did in "Ties". Her hair is quite a bit longer, for one thing. It's less obvious with Donny and Tony, but they seem older as well. How much of that is due to actual aging, and how much is due to Tom's drawing style evolving, remains to be seen.

I can't get over Anthony's expression! He's like, "Don, why is she staring at me?! It's freaking me out!"

Anthony. And Brinnie. I have a sudden hunch that Anthony does whatever he does not because he's afraid to face the problem. In other news? I so love how Annie learned talking in understatements from Jones... but, apparently, so did Donald. Oh boy oh boy a flashback. Anthony looks handsomer than in the last flashback of him in school. Aye, but still with Little Grey Men face. I guess, this wasn't accidental. And Brinnie does finally give some understandable reason to mistake her for younger Jones. For those familiar with Wagner, Brynnhilde is not the type to take "no" for an answer. Multiple incoming tracks, identified as wacky hijinks! Some of you spoke too soon. This forum in a nutshell. Seems to be the general principle. "No matter what you predict, it will be proven hilariously wrong in an amazingly twisted way. Thus, just have fun." I can't get over Anthony's expression! He's like, "Don, why is she staring at me?! It's freaking me out!" ...but doesn't say this.

For those familiar with Wagner, Brünnhilde is not the type to take "no" for an answer. Though evidently Wagner's account (and the Norse myths it was based on) can't be that accurate in the Gunnerkrigg Court universe, since she's being punished by Odin in the present day rather than in the mythic past - and by being sent to a boarding school rather than placed in an enchanted sleep surrounded by a ring of fire. (Then again, we already saw in Chapter Two that the story of Theseus and the Minotaur also differed from "what really happened". Apparently a case of "All things are true.... few things are accurate.")

Incidentally, does anyone else suspect that Tom's drawing Brinnie with longer hair now to make her less likely to be mistaken for Jones?

Well, I guessed right on Donny and Tony being rather close friends, at least.
But, damn, didn't expect Brinnie to have had a crush on him.

Damn, Brinnie's beautiful. They're all definitely older than when we last saw them, though (look at Don's teenager-acne). I think her longer hair, however, is just to show her being older; rather than to avoid confusion.
In general, though, I'm very interested to know how Brinnie is involved in this situation... or if she is, at least. And wondering whether she'll either turn up sometime as an adult, or turn out to be dead during this flashback... unless I'm forgetting something else we already know about her.

Oh, another possible clue that they're older: they're not wearing school uniforms, possibly indicating that they're in a senior class.

I don't see a contradiction here. Maybe she's just that contrary? And the punishment depends on what she did this time. Makes sense, no? (Then again, we already saw in Chapter Two that the story of Theseus and the Minotaur also differed from "what really happened". Apparently a case of "All things are true.... few things are accurate.") That, too. Okay i now love this chapter even more. It's great to see their school years and Brinnie again. Looking at the previous appearance, she can be fun.

Hahaha! Carver you hound! Dunno. Looking at her expression, Brinnie looks to be the one who's on the scent... Also, moment of whimsy just hit me. If only there spontaneously materialized an animated movie of the lives of the parents and their friends during their student days. Because then, to parody all of those shipping AMVs on YouTube, I will gather every scene with Tony and Brinnie in the same frame regardless of context and set it all to Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries."

Everybody's talking about the starting flashback, but what got me about this page was Annie's line. To me, it sounds like "Not much. We didn't talk a lot." Judging by Donnie's reaction, he picked up on that too.
