Oh, she's Annie now, huh? Geez, I SO like Jack as a character. His thoughts on Jones and Coyote are interesting, and now I'm wondering how much Annie's told him.....
Also, shut it.
Looks like we're about to transition again. Interested in seeing what happens. :3

"Jack finds Jones scary."
Can't quite blame him, since technically she did once punch through a stone wall in pursuit of him.

Hmmmmm... still banking that the third story comes from one of them (or that whole charade was the "story"), but this looks like a cut-away, so maybe not.

Hm... Why he is afraid of Jones? May be he knows something scary about her?

That picture on the wall in the last panel is "113" sideways.

So wait, why does Jack find Jones scary? The only time I can think they were even together, he was asleep. Think maybe he found some stuff out about her in the computer database.

How about the fact that she's a completely emotionless, possibly unhuman, super-powerful authority in the Court? Isn't that kind of enough to be scary?

Perhaps, but she has shown absolutely no tendencies toward hostility.

Maybe the spiders told him something? That picture on the wall in the last panel is "113" sideways. Whoa, good catch... how do you people find these things!

Wow, I wasn't expecting reconciliation. The kindness is back, which makes me happy. I guess I figured, though, that Annie needed for someone to be a little harsh with her just to get her to open up...her issues would be cleared out in the open. The "Don't try to sell me that crap" was exciting. I still hope someone WILL one day. The meek and calm Annie is just a facade to cover emotions that hurt too much to show. Word of Tom? He wanted to write a comic about an antisocial girl. (I can't find the post or even the Questions thread right now, for some reason, so I can't link to it. :/) And that's exactly what she is. The behavior changes she's shown since just before departing into the forest are, in my opinion, really good for her. But I like this. :B

Tom says the resemblance between Jack's bangs and spider fangs is deliberate, so I'm thinking there will be more about this in the story at some point. He did say he still felt the effects, though, so maybe that's all it is. I'm of two minds about what I'd like to see happen next...

Also: from the angle of the last panel, I say we'll be moving back to the others next week.
As much as I enjoyed the ups and downs of the last few pages, I just gotta say FINALLY. I'm curious about the third story, dang it.

Perhaps, but she has shown absolutely no tendencies toward hostility. Although it's possible that he knows something more about her like you said, Jones is clearly not what she seems, and maybe it's the fact that nothing about her direct appearance is odd or unusual. It's when you start noticing the little things, they don't add her normality value, they take away quite heavily. It could be the uncanny valley effect. He's shown that he notices little things about people around him, and she has a lot of hidden depth, that's for sure. Also, does it really matter if she's been hostile or not? Most big sharks don't attack humans, but I wouldn't go swimming with them. They don't need to be aggressive to be unnerving. On another note it seems that Jack, while not being a saint, is a decent guy after all. Nice to see him using his smarts to do some good too. Do I feel platonic friendship coming on? I think I do. And he still rocks in that coat. Also: Sky Watcher

"Also, shut it."? Hmm. Jack may run into "no true Scotsman" thing, which is kind of hilarious, given that Annie "didn't count" as normal people to begin with and now he doesn't either. But yeah, now their problem is at least defined. Nope. They require arbitrage in an everyday "abnormal" situation and they "strategy" of helping Jeanne is nudging a medium approximately in her direction and waiting for changes. Can't quite blame him, since technically she did once punch through a stone wall in pursuit of him. Aye. So wait, why does Jack find Jones scary? The only time I can think they were even together, he was asleep. After he ran from her for how long? Jones is kind of fun, but having this on your tracks... probably never stopping even for sleep too... ouch. Her perfection itself, in a way, makes this even worse than a Terminator or something.

Annie needs to frequent more human beings, as opposed to supernatural entities.

Why does he say "shut it"? Also, who is saying "annie" in the third panel?

Why does he say "shut it"? Playful banter. Y'know, what some friends do when people jokingly keep answering a rhetorical question, or giving playfully snarky answers in general. Like so: Dude 1: You can do anything if you put your mind into it. Dude 2: So you can convince yourself you won't die if I push you off this building? Dude 1: You know what I meant. Dude 2: That I can push you off this building? Dude 1: Oh, shut up. Also, who is saying "annie" in the third panel? Jack. He called her Carver when he was calling her out, now he's shifting back to using her first name because their confrontation is over.

Yeah I got the "shut it" as playful banter I just didn't see a build-up for it. I also thought saying Annie seemed out of place because he just said Carver, I thought maybe Annie was saying it to let him know she wanted him to call her by her first name. Thank you for clarifying, though

Y'know, looking at all the shipper frenzy the last few pages have incurred, it just occurred to me how Tom can cast one bucket of chum into the whole thing at the end of this chapter. Have the extra, post-chapter page go something like this:
Jack: Oh, hey, you forgot your stone. Annie (coyly): Did I?
With the page composed in such a way that leaves it ambiguous whether Annie's referring to calling her blinker stone back to her or to her leaving it with Jack. You know it would be just like Tom to do something like that.

The "... shut it" line seems likely to be inspired by caution, given that we are now seeing them from the perspective of someone else, coming up the stairs.
I doubt if either of them wishes to include a third party in this particular conversation, but Jack is the more alert and paranoid of the two, possibly also the more sensitive -- maybe his "spider senses" are tingling.
Next scene, Kat comes looking for them. Timeline so far could have her just leaving Paz, and seeking reassuring company to regain her composure with.

Word of Tom? He wanted to write a comic about an antisocial girl. "Unsocial" would be more accurate. "Antisocial" is more Zimmy (actively hostile to everyone but Gamma) than Annie.

Perhaps, but she has shown absolutely no tendencies toward hostility. Not absolutely none. Page 818, panel 5, I doubt this was a love and kisses statement.
