Is it just me, or did Ysengrin just... smile?
Gotta say, my respect and love for him has skyrocketed thanks to this chapter. Magnificent character.

I'd just like to point out that in the space of a few hours Ysengrin has been a better father to Annie than Reynardine has been in more than a year.

Well, this chapter is officially going to tie with S1 as the longest chapter.
Also, arden, I'm not sure what you are talking about, but this isn't the chapter end. No antimony symbol.

I'd just like to point out that in the space of a few hours Ysengrin has been a better father to Annie than Reynardine has been in more than a year. Hmm. On the one hand, Rey has been around to protect her from Ys's attack, called her out on her cheating, and (rather misguidedly) tried to help her science project win. On the other hand, he's tried to possess her and made several innuendoes to her, and let's not forget this chapter's revelation.

Then he blew his top and deliberately tried to hurt her.

Prettiest cliffhanger ever indeed. Gotta hate how Gunnerkrigg Court makes weekends suck.
I'm predicting that the next page is going to be three panels - two little character shots at the top, and one big, glorious vista taking up the rest of the page, with an Antimony symbol in the bottom right hand corner, ala Ties (chapter 22) and Skywatcher And The Angel (chapter 25).
Then treatise 4, then Tom & Tea, then two weeks of cool bonus stuff every weekday, then Chapter 32 on Monday February 21st.

Am I the only one expecting some kind of forest wild party/strange ceremony on the other side?
Some kind of wookie-like city would also be funny to see, since shadow people use forest trees as means of transport. I'm really looking forward to some explaining on the forest dwellers' daily life.

Say what you will about Reynardine, but he never provably tried to murder anyone. He tried to possess Annie, but he didn't exactly have a lot of options, given the trap the court had him in. And he's more than made up for it, far beyond what was required or expected of him. Ysengrin, in his first appearance, soon as Annie gave him a reason, blatantly tried to kill Annie on the spot. If Coyote hadn't stopped him, he'd have likely killed Eglamore at the very least. Guy's a looney, even if he doesn't act it all the time.

A fantastic way to celebrate the end of A2 exams. <3 I looooove the atmosphere on this page. Just. Unf. I would marry that lighting. Reminds me of Fern Gully (even though it had a terrible plot, it was gorgeous artwork).
Also - anybody else notice the second symbolic bridge crossing in this chapter? Seem like we're all about bridges. Which is not a bad thing, because bridges are pretty cool bits of architecture and I'd like to see someone NOT cry after listening to Bridge Over Troubled Water. ... I'm digressing.
Either way, fab page. Cannot WAIT to see the amazing forest community on monday. Or not. I shouldn't underestimate Tom's ability to be a cocktease (even though I have none to speak of).
PS: Ysengrin's gone all Papa Wolf on us, d'awww~

I bet it's Alister's family, "She never saw him again" was not " We never saw him again".
HA, wouldn't it be terrible though if the next page was just Annie going, "wow that is not what I expected." and we don't see whoever the dwellers are until after break. (If that's the case, I hope they are ewoks!)

Ysengrin, in his first appearance, soon as Annie gave him a reason, blatantly tried to kill Annie on the spot. If Coyote hadn't stopped him, he'd have likely killed Eglamore at the very least. Clearly, Ysengrin was only "attacking" in order to distract Coyote so he could deliver those seeds to the Court without his master's notice, and was not actually prepared to harm anyone. Oh no, I've become an Ysengrin fangirl - and I'm not even a girl?! edit: Also, I greatly enjoy the fact that today's Gunnerkrigg was followed in my RSS feed by this. Not afraid, indeed!

I'm not sure Ysengrin wouldn't have killed Annie in that first meeting. If he was looking for some distraction to plant the seeds, a real attack works as well as a fake attack.
By now, Ysengrin has accepted Annie and is treating her as a respected member of the pack. Their relationship has changed dramatically.

I bet it's Alister's family, "She never saw him again" was not " We never saw him again". It would upset Kat even more if she found out Annie was spending the summer with the boy she had a crush on. I'm already predicting a pretty cold shoulder from Kat at the end of next summer.

Hmm. On the one hand, Rey has been around to protect her from Ys's attack, called her out on her cheating, and (rather misguidedly) tried to help her science project win. On the other hand, he's tried to possess her and made several innuendoes to her, and let's not forget this chapter's revelation. Say what you will about Reynardine, but he never provably tried to murder anyone. He killed that young man. No one disputes this. He tested his bodysnatching powers on a rabbit, he discovered that leaving a host's body would have lethal side-effects, then he went ahead and possessed that guy from the Court anyway. Taking another person's life because you're in a bad situation: completely excusable! I don't know; Annie expected that Rey could tell her more about Surma. The only time Rey actually spilled any info, it was because he was in a fit of rage and trying to hurt her. People can commit good deeds without being a paragon of virtue; people can commit bad deeds without being a mustache-twirling villain. Now this is really pretty. And convenient to make icons of. Nice icons. I'm totally going to use the second one, on a different forum.
