Man, these children are growing up. It's kind of unsettling. ...Particularly when my next line was about to start with "I remember them when they were..." Tom, you're making me feel OLD.

Annie's first sign of teenage awkwardness - overthinking something. She's only letting him use it right there, but you can tell she felt weird about it because of its significance as a gift. (It's not a gift, though, so chill out.)
And pffffft level 2 collar pop? Nice. I wonder what she sees.....

Also, can Annie still use it, now that she's given it to Jack? Because if Jack brings it back to his room, that might get a bit disturbing. She hasn't permanently given it to Jack. She has let Anja use it before and still been able to use it afterwards.

Annie's first sign of teenage awkwardness If that's awkward, I hope I don't get to see cool - I'd be frozen solid.

She's not just lending it to him. She's giving it to him. She decided this in panel 3 and made sure in panel 7.

mudmaniac: Or something Jack finds to be super charming but is actually SUPER cheesy. If he can manage a good pick up line at this age, I fear for any kid he sets his eyes on. No one can resist! It'd be really impressive if he could use the stone for really advanced things so quickly. No wacky training adventures for this whiz-kid! jasmijn: Dirty dancing IS the most dangerous dance (Aside from the chicken dance) but by the time that begins, Bud would have to step in. Or party pooper Boxbot. (How'd he get in? He's EVERYWHERE.) Boxbot: Uh, please keep it clean, kids. Annie: Boxbot, why do you have to be so terrible? Boxbot: Aww...

You remember how rash and impulsive she was after she returned from the forest? Since the beginning of this school year, she's been struggling to find a way to integrate the energy of the forest into the structured world of the Court. So she's giving, not lending, the stone to Jack now as a deliberate and passionate act. Of course poor Jack doesn't know this yet...

Is it just me, or is panel 6 as much "Do I trust you?" as it is "Do I want to do this?"

That's the most solid theory I've seen yet regarding Annie's reluctance. This has plenty of opportunity to backfire too, if that's the case...

The only real issue I see with this is that Annie has stated that she still needs the blinker stone ('soon' implies that it isn't true now, and so she still needs it), so giving it to him would be a pretty major sacrifice, and not one that I'm sure Annie would make after thinking about it, which she clearly does in panel three.

I think in panel 7 she decides she doesn't really need it anymore.

I'm still wondering when Annie got used to the idea of flirting. And when she became so smooth. Perhaps this will be the next story? I would be happy to just get a few hints, because this whole social exchange with Jack is coming at me as a non-sequitur, although it is interesting. Many were speculating much earlier on just what it was that happened to Annie during her summer. I'm still wondering. All my memories of being 14 and attracted to someone involve a lot of stuttering, saying the wrong thing at the wrong time and making an idiot out of yourself am i really alone on this? It was the same for me, but there are those out there who I saw who didn't have much trouble. Of course, those types tended to just throw themselves at each other. ----------- My personal opinion is that Annie has not "given" the stone to Jack at this point. Personally, I do not even know if a Blinker Stone has a "keyed" status, where there is an "official" owner. I can't recall reading that. Anja and Annie passed the stone back and forth, and Annie could still used it. Annie handed the stone to Andrew, too, and when he tossed it, it hit a bird and then was picked up by Jeanne, but it still seemed to be Annie's.

She just lets her eyes wander while contemplating whether to give the Blinker to Jack (since she is aware of the traditional significance of doing that). Kat is very well aware, though - and Annie did it right before her eyes. No, not dancing! She hasn't been trained, someone could get hurt! She has a few tricks, though. Then again, does "levitation-assisted dancing" sound better? Tom, you tease! But no, seriously, nice catch. While Kat holds a pair of lovebirds. For some reason i keep expecting a bad twist to this Like pouting Kat? This comfortable flirting/talking back-and-forth is just going too well All my memories of being 14 and attracted to someone involve a lot of stuttering, saying the wrong thing at the wrong time and making an idiot out of yourself They, especially Annie, were through a lot of stuff more serious than "how to talk to the opposite sex". As in "can bite yer butt clean off" things. Once even together. The way it happened seems to cause another sort of awkwardness, but it only pushes the first further down. Hence, limited to one glance-to-the-side. She's not just lending it to him. She's giving it to him. She decided this in panel 3 and made sure in panel 7. She gives the blinker to Jack to "try it". But a thought about where it goes once she won't need it definitely is here. It'd be really impressive if he could use the stone for really advanced things so quickly. No wacky training adventures for this whiz-kid! He did fly "under influence", thus if he remembers this part and get extra power from a magical amplifier trinket, he probably can repeat it without half-killing himself. On the other eyestalk, he only knows how to do it spider-style, so how this would look like...

TBeholderI figure maybe he can tap into what he remembers from the spider experience to use the stone for flying but it seems too easy. Then again, he seems pretty confident but that flying the spider did seemed more like..etheric web jumping or something. Fly dancing would certainly show the other kids up, that's for sure!

Surely you recall the time you went out on a limb and off on a roll? And crashed and burned two minutes in, but oh what a mind-blasting, terror-filled, inexplicably stutterless two minutes those were? Not that the other person could tell by looking at you.

Hrm, fly dancing, are you talking about this? Its one of the better videos that I could find, and no there isn't bug sex at the end. Also, just for laughs, drunk fly, l o l.

You know, having re-read this one, I'm not sure Annie has really thought out the significance of the gift at all. The look in panel three is hard to read, and the blinker stone is an important object to Annie, at least for the time being.

The look in panel three is hard to read, and the blinker stone is an important object to Annie, at least for the time being. I agree. However, I think it will bring them closer together because, if they're both using the same stone, they would get more chance to talk (thought) to one another. {edit}Once they can start making observations/comments to each other without anyone realising they'll start having shared expriences and in-jokes that set them both apart from the other people they know. That would deepen any connection they would feel and, before they know it, it would become "our stone". Furthermore, other people may nag them about the situation (e.g. "Are you sure it's wise lending your stone to someone who was under the influence of spiders?" or "Isn't she weird?") leading them to spend more time talking to each other to lighten their mood. Reynard could use it to talk to Annie even though she never gave/lent him it.

Oh man.
Renard would be mauling Jack right about now if he was there. Leaving him behind was a great call.

I was thinking about this earlier, and realized that, as several others have realized, perhaps Jack could use the stone to tap into those abilities given to him by the spider.
I believe that I'm the first to realize that this means that Jack could turn into Etheric Spider Man.
Also my first post yaaaaaaayyyyy

Welcome to the GC community eruedraith. Although, as far as we know, the only abilities that the spider possessed jack was superjumping (hence the chapter title for that period of time) and possibly increased technical ability or maybe it just unlocked the latent potential similar to the abilities that kat has.
There wasnt any web flinging/swinging though.

And why is she looking at the barstool behind her? By now you'd think Annie would know better than to take advice from bar stools.

Is it me or does Jack look a bit tired, he has some gray under his eyes. I wonder what he was doing during the summer. It should be one of the tales left.
Oh, and if Annie does give the blinker stone to Jack I think it'll probably be just to train his etheric powers.

He has appeared like that most times he has appeared (besides when he was possessed by the demon-spider from Zimmyland).
