...while Annie says "sorry, no time! Must catch him!", grabs Rey and flies out after Jack? ;D Yes she catches up to him just as he finds Zimmy. "I've been looking everywhere for you! Here, you dropped this." "Wut", says Zimmy, as Jack returns her wallet. "I haven't been able to sleep for WEEKS worrying about this!" Later: Jack and Annie get married, the spider is Annie's father. Gunnerkrigg Court: The End We have figured it all out together.

Just be glad, ladies and gentlemen, that this was not a Friday update. Imagine the agony! Still very impressive that it has generated a discussion topic of four pages and more than two hundred comments in a single day.

I just thought of an even worse thing Tom could do on Monday - have Tea say that the author couldn't think of a way to get Annie out of this mess, so Chapter Twenty-seven is going to be the last chapter. (Mark Twain once ended a story in a similar way - but he did it on purpose.)

(Mark Twain once ended a story in a similar way - but he did it on purpose.) It could be just as bad - Tom doesn't know how to get Annie out of this mess, so he writes a whole sideline chapter about Kat or Red or Mort, while we gnaw our fingernails down to the quick.

Wait, I just remembered something I had thought of earlier. I'm not sure if people already said this, but Jack might not have thought that Antimony wanted Reynardine gone. If he thought that Antimony didn't like Reynardine for trying to kill her, he could have just activated the symbol right after he had placed it, right? So maybe he's just pretending that he thought Antimony disliked Reynardine, when in reality he knew that Antimony was friends with Reynardine but froze him anyway.
Then again, all his plans were (ostensibly) ruined by Antimony refusing to leave Reynardine and run, so I don't know. Both options seem inconsistent.

Well one thing to note is that Annie and Rey were past him when he put the little things up, so they'd have to walk past it again for him to spring it.
But more importantly, I think, Jack didn't want to just simply trap Rey for fun. He wanted to do something really bad that someone would get in trouble for (i.e. turning on the power station) and THEN trap Rey in order for him to get blamed for it.
There's also the possibility that the purpose of trapping Rey was just as a backup in case something went wrong, and he opted to go that route when the people came from the boat.
It's also been hypothesized that the power station had to be on in order for the trap to function, but that seems more like open speculation to me.
