The light is so strong that you can see it between the panels.

Looks like the forest area is bathed in the etherium energies. For too much for someone who is used to the dull etheric powers inside the Court, no doubt.

The light between the panels IS a nice touch.
Also, Yay! More Ethereal shenanigans! I can already tell the art is going to be fantastic.

i wonder if we will finally get so see something out of Rey's past? perhaps a blinker stone, under certain circumstances allows you to see through time.
Then again, i don't think Tom would draw two flashback chapters in a row.
Still, coyote must have brought up Reynard's body for a reason, other then taunting Yissy of course.

Haha, I was so happy that I noticed the light between the panels, but of course everyone noticed it. It works really well. Make sure to request extra-bright paper when you print the book

Also, oddly enough, the light seems to frizz and distort Annie's typically smooth and well managed hair. in panel 5 i actually looks like it's melting How does that happen?

I think we'll have the "training wheels" coming off very shortly.

I remember a few chapters back when Anja had Annie look around while in the etherium via her blinker stone. She noticed all kinds of lights and colors emanating from the Forest. Doubtless that's all kinds of etheric stuff going on. A blinker stone in the Wood is going to tap into some insane stuff where Annie's been standing with Coyote.
Translation: I'm not much surprised, really. What surprises me is that Annie didn't think to recall that moment before plucking up her stone.

I think she's going to discover some Huge Secrets of the Universe.
edit: It looks like her hair is going to bleed off the page in the next printed book. These are actually some pretty cool effects!

My first thought was that this "discharge" was caused by the blinker stone being summoned across the otherwise impassable Annan Waters.
The larger amounts etheric energies seams like a better explanation though. Also fits better with Coyote's comments.

I bet something important about Reynard is going to be revealed here.
If I know Coyote, it's gonna be something that drives another wedge between Rey and Annie. The way I see it, Coyote's ultimate goal is to get Reynardine back to the forest, and all the talk about him being prisoner aside, Annie would be the final obstacle to that end. Obviously, he can neither lie nor hurt Annie, so he reveals uncomfortable truths to Annie instead.
I feel like I'm setting myself up for a big fall here. I can hardly wait for Friday's Etheric Pantene Adventure.

Maybe Coyote wants Annie to have a chat with some other etheric beings who misses Reynardine and wants him back to the forest. Such beings would likely tend to hang around at that site. Hey - that would mean new characters!
That or something to convince Annie that she can trust Reynardine out of her control.
Either way - something that Coyote hopes will give Annie extra incentive to let Reynardine go (or perhaps rather 'try to convince him to').

My two theories about the blinding light:
1) Annie is standing right next to a god, for pete's sake.
2) Perhaps Coyote preserved Rey's body, in part, by laying it near... the Seed Bismuth.
Either way, something in the immediate area is emanating an overwhelming amount of etheric energy.

Love Coyote in panel 3. The way he's drawn from panel to panel makes him seem almost amorphous.
The fact that his outline is a hazy red line adds to that effect. Like his proportions are intentionally ill-defined so that his form is fluid and ambiguous. Goddamn I love Coyote.

The way he's drawn from panel to panel makes him seem almost amorphous. I agree. Tom seems to like drawing supernatural canines like that

I like how Annie is too stunned to ask Coyote what the hell that was about, and just blindly follows his instructions. Careful now, girl...

Aside from fan speculations, there is no information about that. Nor even if the S.B. is a fixed place. (As an aside, as I was typing the above, I couldn't help but notice that S.B. is very similar to Sb, which as we all know, is the chemical symbol for...)

You know, that sounds almost like a security hole. What if someone made a really big blinker stone and hid someone inside it? Or made a little notch in a blinker stone and hid some kind of shadow-thing inside it? This comic shows that the jump across the waters isn't a problem, so...

Also, I love the shading in panel 5. I don't think I've ever seen that kinda style in GC before (or at least its so infrequent that I've forgotten). It's a really cool effect, and works great with the scene.

Or made a little notch in a blinker stone and hid some kind of shadow-thing inside it? This comic shows that the jump across the waters isn't a problem, so... The blinker stone doesn't transport anything it's touching according to Tom, and a the summoner would still have to get herself across the water. My theory is that Renard's body has some sort of etheric connection to something, or that looking at it will reveal something about Renard's past.

(As an aside, as I was typing the above, I couldn't help but notice that S.B. is very similar to Sb, which as we all know, is the chemical symbol for...) Oh, wow. If that's a coincidence, it's an amazing coincidence. Alternately, I suppose, Tom was just playing around in a free-associative kinda way. And then there's that third option. You know, that sounds almost like a security hole. What if someone made a really big blinker stone and hid someone inside it? My suspicion is that it's no more of a security hole than entanglement is a violation of relativity. That is, you can't actually send anything with a blinker stone, so it doesn't matter.

Not like there's much reason for the sky symbol by now anyways. So I don't see a problem in her plucking it up at this junction. Besides, Coyote's already talking to her, so what's the point of keeping it up?
