On the one hand, Annie is a good person who instinctively tries to help others. On the other hand, she's about to be crushed like a bug. There's karma for you.

When faced with a homicidal magic wolf with anger issues, the one thing no sane person should do is to try and pat/grab/support it. Of course, the exact state of Annie's sanity has never really been addressed. This could explain a lot.
Also, those jaws are crazy.

Surely administering spankies to Coyote was somewhat dumber than Panel 3? Sure, it worked out okay in hindsight, but seriously. That's not how you treat deities.
Incidentally, where is the fishy psychopomp?
(Yeah, it's my first post. This one scared me and I need support... *cries*)

Tom seems to understand dog language well - Ys did a warning snap, not an attack. Annie should have just stood still, but her compassion wouldn't let her. Now we have to wait until Monday to see how the inevitable recriminations take shape - and hope they are not physical!

Panel 3 may have been a dumb move, but panel 6 looks like a very anticipatory smile.

If the perspective is right, they're pretty much big enough to fit her whole head inside it. Fourth rule of Diplomacy: Never argue with someone whose mouth is bigger than your head.

This comic reminded me of something my friend's daughter once did. At about four years of age she went to the zoo and saw the polar bears being fed on a very warm day. The only things she knew about polar bears were from cartoons and global warming propaganda videos so naturally she wanted to "save" them. She almost managed to sneak through the enclosure's back door while a zoo employee was entering. Her mother about blew a brain artery when the zoo folk told her what the little girl had been up to but fortunately no harm was done.
It wasn't really her fault, though. She was just a kid and she'd grown up somewhere there were no animals except for pets, just like Antimony.

Next page will be the second time Ysengrin tries to kill Annie in this comic.
Calling it now.

Next page is where Annie uses the beacon she got from Eglamore. And then things really get nasty.

Coyotes invitation to the forest and his promise that "no harm would come to her" are a bit inconclusive. However I believe his guarantee of safe passage is still valid, and Ysengrin is not actually able to lay as much as a paw (or twig) on her. Still he will do his fulles to intimidate her, hence Coyote's advice to Annie to "stand her ground". What good would standing her ground do if Ysengrin actually could attack her physically? As awesome as Annie may be, he'd squash her like a bug.

In fairness to Annie, it is most likely going to be difficult to remember her promise of safe conduct and her various methods of protecting herself when a giant wolf/tree hybrid is looming menacingly over her with many spearlike appendages. Not exactly a time when it's easy to think clearly.

Ys here reminds me of a dog I once knew. Big Malamute with a weak heart, he would try to attack people but always got so worked up that he passed out before actually hurting anyone. My first encounter with him played out like the first four panels here (notices me, almost collapses, I try to help him up, he snaps) with panel 5 being replaced with him completely passed out and me backing away slowly.

After Eglamore, Carver is probably the last person Ys would want seeing him in this state.
I'm guessing Ys won't hurt Annie, although I'm sure we'll see a lot of roaring and smashing stuff. Still, we have seen him fly off the handle once before. I'm sure Carver remembers the Spankies Incident...

You know, panel 3 would not look out of place at all, if you replaced Ys with a crying baby. Annie seriously looks like she's going to go pick up a crying child who'd just fallen and is crying its little bright eyes out.
I wonder how Annie will react in Monday's strip though. Will she stand her ground and crack into Ys' cold unrelenting facade? Maybe all he wants is a little love. Or maybe she'll get mad at him and scold him like a pup (ref: spankies). Cross her arms and get all, "I'm ashamed of you, treating guests like that!"
If a fish psychopomp makes an appearance, I'm curious as to its appearance. Kertrak's official 'face' hasn't been shown in the slightest, I wonder if this one will even appear..

It may have been a dumb move on Annie's part, but it speaks volumes of her character to even try it. And let's be honest, a lot of us had the same reaction 2 comics back.
One thing I love about GK is that Tom isn't afraid to show his main character do something that could in hindsight be classified as dumb.

We've seen in the past that the Psychopomps arrive very quickly. The fish-Guide probably already arrived and left, invisible to Ysengrin.

Exam is still in session. Carver's just gotta stand her ground. Although it is easy to imagine Coyote just doing this for laughs, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure summoning Eglamore would result in a failed exam from Coyote's point of view; it's the response Annie makes that's important.
Edited for shocking apostrophe abuse
