I want the last panel as a background I never thought emotion could be so well conveyed in a robot.

So, Annie is "attractive" to spirits, while Kat is "attractive" to robots. The Spiritual and the Scientific. This trend is carried everywhere.

Say, have Kat's eyes ever been shown as anything other than solid black before today?
I'm sure someone has said it before, but I'm guessing Kat will be this generation's "Diego", after the position remained empty for many years (you know, the reason for the downgraded later models).

Was it here before? Is this one of those 80 bazillion little symbols that have been hidden throughout the comic which I never notice until someone points them out?

I believe there's a thread somewhere, but just to illustrate, Margo's scarf in Power Station has the number 113.

I admire today's juxtaposition of the warm-fuzzy comic and the low brow comment.
Is it just me or does Kat look younger on this page?
heh heh heh

113, as far as I know has more meaning to Tom himself than the Comic. It's a thing he does, but it's not a thing that has plot relevance.
Also, I do like the Annie:spirits::Kat:robots thing. It's pretty groovy.

See, guys? The Sky Watcher's function is to predict the weather. Nothing mysterious here. Then again, why doesn't the Court rely on outside weather forecasts? Some possibilities: - There is no TV or internet in Court (there might be a shield or something that blocks signals in/out of the facility, to prevent outside knowledge of the Court.) - The weather over the Court is so anomalous that outside forecasts cannot possibly predict it accurately. - The Court's robots are more accurate than the weather forecasts from the outside world. - The Court itself is not interested in the robot's forecasts (remember, the robots form a separate society of their own for the most part). The robots do them simply because it's something they've been programmed to do.

Also, the Court may provide its sensor data to the UK's weather service.
I do not see the 113.

Someone's in luuuuv. And by someone I mean Sky Watcher there. Soon he'll be bursting out the sonnets.
I wonder, though, what his official criteria for an "angel" is.

Well, the Greek word Angel is derived from means 'Messenger'...

I think he's probably talking about the less precise "so good and beautiful and all-around amazing that God must have sent her to us".

There's a special place in my heart for robots who are poetic and articulate.

Oh dear, NOW I get this comic. Thanks to a guy at TVTropes, I now noticed that the magnifying glass on panel 4 looks like a halo. I'm slapping myself silly for not noticing this.

Usually Halos are depicted above or behind someone's head. Halo around the eye? Not so much.

Maybe the guy on TVTropes should explain where the "halo" is on this page.

Yeah, I suppose the magnifying glass could be seen as a halo. Or maybe Kat's 'angelic' qualities stem from the fact that she was able to determine Sky Watcher's function just by inspecting his antennae. Only an angel would have such an innate knowledge of robot-kind!

Angels are beautiful and higher up the ladder.
EDIT: Yeah, the blinding glow doesn't hurt, either.

The halo analogy is good, but I think that the purpose of the lens in a creative sense was to cast an ephemeral glow on Kat's face, very similar to a halo but not exactly, if you see what I mean. I dunno, it's just how I see it. I would agree with Pyro in that the robots casting Kat as an angel probably stems from her unnatural affinity with technology, but the glowing microscope probably didn't hurt. We know that the robots all have very human personalities - perhaps they were also programmed with certain human cultural images e.g. angels are glowy and have halos and uncommon knowledge. We haven't see Kat displaying anything that could be interpreted as a robot exclusive image of an angel, only a human exclusive image, so human cultural image programming is feasible.
Gah, long words. I sound like Mr Dictionary.

The easiest assumption would be that the robot AI's as advanced as Robot's would perhaps have been directly made to emulate a pre-existing mind. If Diego used his own mind, that'd probably explain the young-hating strain and the Jeanne-obsession strain, but that's not really the main focus of this. Well, it kind of is. That is, if the mind used was particularly religious, perhaps their image of an angel was similar to how Kat looks. On a second note, if the mind emulated was Diego's, consider Jeanne's stance to Kat's on these pages. Seems similar in base build, less so the details, but still their posture. That might just be me though. If so, maybe their obsession with Jeanne spread to women (and somewhat feminine men) who looked similar to her, much like a person might find a specific type of appearence to be more attractive than another. Just talking out loud though.

the mind used was particularly religious, That might tie in with the robot horse reciting from "Paradise Lost", a strongly Christian epic poem. (Though we don't know if that's the only poem he ever recites from - or whether he chose it for its religious elements or its role as "classic literature".)

Ah yes, I had forgotten about good ol' Model H. Maybe I should recite quotes from epic poems more often... But Model H is a different model, so maybe a different base mind? Lotta things you can't really know.
