A lot of these theories don't make sense when you take into account that it is the owner who can tap into the stone from a distance, not the giver. I'm pretty sure I remember a Word of Tom that indicated once you give a stone you lose all claim to it. Yeah, that's why if you wanna spy on your beloved you'd have to be all sneaky-like and make it seem like a gift when it really isn't, or hide it.

A lot of these theories don't make sense when you take into account that it is the owner who can tap into the stone from a distance, not the giver. These theories also assume that blinker stones are generally seen as devices suitable for spying. On the other hand, we know about just one owner of a blinker stone who has tried to use it for that purpose – namely Annie, but Reynardine pointed out to her this might be a bad idea: “Anja forgot to mention that spying with a blinker stone is not recommended.” Apparently the “not recommended for spying” bit is common wisdom.

But it's great to keep in touch with people long distances, e.g. the start of this chapter with Annie and Reynardine. It's kinda like a cellular telephone for the court, so that does have some romantic connotations, that it's a means to be together when far apart. (Even if it does require the receiver to leave their blinker stone behind)

Bringing up the fact that Donald can't use the blinker stone, the fact that Reynardine can talk to Annie through the stone might have more to do with the fact that he is very much a creature of the ether, as opposed to the fact that he is bonded to Annie and therefor might conceivably be able to communicate with Annie through her stone. What I mean is, it's much more likely that Reynardine can either go into the ether-world at will or else actually exists at least partly in the ether already, as opposed to being able to use her blinker stone to talk to her because of their bond.

That has always been my conclusion exactly too, Wynne. I would suspect that Annie could talk to Coyote as well, if her blinker stone were near enough to him.

Apparently the “not recommended for spying” bit is common wisdom. Among forest folk I believe that to be completely true. However, humans not magically inclined apparently can't see anything.
