That's a good theory, Aidan. It would explain Eglamore's knife, his dislike of Anthony, his somewhat odd attitude towards Annie, and the pairing in the picture very cleanly.

It also lends real weight to the theory Rastarogue just posted in the Girl-with-a-sword thread.

I had an idea about her on the Wild Speculation thread:

The girl in the older-generation picture was called Mercury, summoned Reynardine, and was his first victim. Surma freed him from Mercury's binding, which is why he likes her/feels he owes her one. Surma freed him for many of the same reasons that Antimony aided and shelters him; she didn't know how annoying/evil he was, didn't like the idea of him being imprisoned, and wanted some information from him. This explains why the teachers think Antimony and Surma were so alike.

Why the name Mercury? Just because it fits with the other names we've seen so far?

Nah, because some guy said that the symbol on Rey's spirit-form-doodad as he leaves Sivo has the symbol for mercury on it.
