At least we no longer have to call her "Mystery Girl" or "Third Girl in the Photograph", now that we know her name. You forget the new favorite: 'Not-Jones'

Her eyes glowing blue could indicate that she's one of the fairies. Not that any of them have evidenced an accent like that before. Alyx and Zimmy and Gamma have all demonstrated unique abilities and properties so her unique magic may be something that is all her own.
As for whether she and Anthony are about to visit the same man, it's possible. It was my first impression, but if Anthony's just an introvert and needs alone time to decompress, it's liable to be coincidence.
Both are likely, but from a story standpoint if we're going to learn more about the pair of them having both of them be going to the same place would make sense. Meta analysis rarely works here at GC, though.

The blue shape in the fifth panel reminds me of Eglamore's lead symbol ( www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=55). Maybe that's how he can get places within 5 seconds. Other things: Eglamore studied things related to dragon-slaying at some far-off place. Sivo spoke Slovenian and was a friend of Eglamore's.

It also resembles Tornen Bergman's symbols for "matter of heat" and sulfur.

I counted no less than four grammatical errors. Tsk tsk. *gives Brinnie a 'C'*
And just because she uses magic that looks a little like electricity, that doesn't mean she has anything at all to do with the Power Station. The lightning we saw in the experiment looked nothing like the "electricity" we're seeing now.

Oh! I figured out what Brinnie's full name is. Since Annie is short for Antimony, Brinnie must be short for Brintimony.

Tom: How is that for an enigmatic answer?
Readers: Very enigmatic. It barely answers anything at all.
Damn/bless you Tom! I hate/love how you keep us in suspense!

Wow! She looks ready to star in her own webcomic and she does glowy-eye magic! Instant love! My first thought was that the "old man" was the Headmaster, but... ... she's the Devil's daughter! Oh noes

Interesting thing of possible note - the bystanders in the final pattern seem pretty shocked by the lighting triangle-spiral of azure portent that has appeared before them. We see a guy holding back another person, another person leaning away in surprise, and a girl raising her hands to her mouth in a gasp. I don't think Brinnie's magic was commonplace back in the day.
As for who she is - who knows? But I think we've been assured that she's pretty important. I must admit I am surprised that she actually does have an accent - "You mean picture of Donny!" certainly threw me off target!

Could the Old Man by Odin? Brinnie is a Dannish name and Odin was worshipped by the Danes, and the gate she opened looks like a Valknut Odin's symbol. See, the Valknut is the triangles btw.

So I definitely don't see any resemblence to Jones, now, since Brinnie is clearly a brunette and Jones is blond. No body-switching theories here. I don't think Anthony and Brinnie are going to the same place. My very first thought was that Brinnie is one of the fairy-students. Not thinking that so much now, but it still stands as possible? Maybe the Old Man has something to do with the forest?
The accent seems Russian to me.

How different is this triangular portal from the circular things that Anja and her husband can "cast" to bind Reynardine now?
It's even got circuitry patterns, although they're more . . . flowy, and less straight. But I don't think it's any more incredible than the Reynardine binding.

You people and your silliness. Of course Brinnie is just Surma's pronunciation of Brittany in her crazy accent! How could you miss that? It absolutely must be so, since it's the first thing I came up and I am infallible! Eheh.
In other news, I like the theory about the Danish Brinnie and Odin as the old man, since one of Odin's most well-known forms was that of a old one-eyed man who would wander around, testing people and dispensing wisdom (and who was the inspiration for Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings). That theory has a lot of solid background to it, and can certainly stand better than my "Brinnie is Brittany and thus French" theory.

"Mystery solved" Certainly one of the best captions so far! Third on my personal list after "Welcome to sunny Birmingham" and "What do you know about making a friend, Kat? Your hair doesn't even stick up."

Wild Speculation: Which "Old Men" do we know? The headmaster, of course - but what if it's Ysengrin, the old man in the forest who gave robot his wooden arm? We don't know when the split between the court and the forest happened; since Brinnie's so comfortable with magic, maybe she's being taught by a "pure" practitioner?
By the way, I've gone four years reading this comic, and figured I just couldn't not be a forum member anymore. So Hello!
Although I wish I could stop reading and start again when it was all done so I'm not banging my head against the wall every weekend/every other day.
I suppose what I'm trying to say is...Thank you...?

Welcome, GibbousRook. Introduce yourself at the thread designated for this purpose if you please.
She seems to me a predecessor to Zimmy. Perhaps I'm being ridiculous here, but both Zimmy and Brinnie end with an "eeee" sound. Seems a lot more sociable than Zimmy. Assuming genetic passing-on of powers, it would make sense that Surma would be able to calm her like Gamma, or at least as well as Antimony, if not better.

OK, so Tom has revealed that Brinnie is Scandinavian (and not French, or Danish,) which destroys me obviously ill-thought theory. It does not, however, destroy the theory of Odin as the old man, and in fact just reinforces it. And I like that theory, so I'm gonna go with it.

After a search for Scandinavian names... BRUNHILD Gender: Feminine Usage: German, Germanic Mythology From the Old Norse name Brynhildr, derived from the elements brynja "armour, protection" and hildr "battle". In the Norse legend the 'Volsungasaga' Brynhildr was the queen of the Valkyries who was rescued by the hero Sigurd. In the Germanic legend the 'Nibelungenlied' she was a queen of Iceland and the wife of Günther. (from www.behindthename.com/name/brunhild)Wife of Gunther...? Nah, probably not related XD Seriously, though, armor, battle.... interesting possibilities, especially considering that we know/think from Reynardine's analysis that Jeanne is a soldier. Do they take the same lessons from this "old man" perhaps? ETA: Also, it occured to me that "the old man" is slang in America (I have no clue about English slang) for one's father.

Odin was also known as Alfadur (Father of All), and Forni (Ancient One). He sacrificed his eye (leading theme in the story too!) in order to gain wisdom of runes and ages. The triangular portal looks a bit like runes I think. In some stories, Odin was a trickster (although Loki was the Norse equivalent of Coyote). So the odds are good. And as far as Brinnie is concerned, Brynhild was one of Odin's helpers. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BrynhildrI am sooooo hoping to see an eight-legged horse later on in the story!!! And there's Fenrir, the great wolf. Now that would be an interesting fight: Fenrir vs Ysenrin!

It looks like in panel 5 Brinnie is making the same hand gesture that Anja makes in this comic here: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=518Both of them use it to summon some sort of magical power, so I guess that's how it works in the Gunnerverse. Also, we know her name now! Finally. I was starting to feel bad for Brinnie, being called Not-Jones and TGFTP all the time. Imagine if people addressed you as Not-Bob or That Person From That Movie I Saw Once.
