I had always assumed that the TicTocs dropped Annie off close to the far bank because they knew that Jeanne was on the Court's side.

One thing I'm wondering: are the Tic Tocs in on it? Annie asks them to drop her on the Court side of the river, but they ignore her. Did they want her to be on the far bank, or were they just acting randomly? Actually, I just want to know more about the Tic Tocs in general... Who doesn’t? There is also the unsolved mystery about the ‘dead’ tic toc bird Annie had found. She assumed it fell to its death while trying to rescue her, which isn’t certain though. Why did Ysengrim bury the mechanical bird when he arrived at the spot (why?) shortly after Annie had left? Why did Ysengrim lie about this and claim he had found the bird only months later after it had supposedly sprouted roots, causing damage to the cliff?

All of that would seem to confirm (or strongly imply) that it was Annie's presence that allowed Jeanne to cross the river. Which would make sense, given the role of a medium. My guess is that the Tic Tocs carried Annie down far enough that they could drop her safely. And then dropped her. The water provided a less bone-crunching landing area than either shore would have, so they'd drop her into water, probably a relatively deep spot - specifically so that they could safely drop her sooner. (Which implies that the Annan is not a rapidly-flowing river.) Even doing that, one Tic Toc was destroyed.
