That mysteriously floaty stone is Annie's blinkerstone.
Mort gave it back to her. Even though he's angry.
I seriously doubt that we've seen the last of Mort.

I seriously doubt that we've seen the last of Mort. Neither do I. (I doubt that the haunting regulations would allow Mort to resign from his post at Gunnerkrigg, no matter how upset he'd been about Annie's treatment of him.)

I'm still surprised no one has taken much notice into Mort's behaviour. It just doesn't seem like he would be the kind of person to take someone's comments and use it against them, like he did with Annies "he's just a ghost" comment. The little guy just doesn't seem to have that retaliatory feel to him. I thought he would just have a nervous laugh and try to explain himelf more.
EDIT: Or perhaps he's just setting her up: With her in a very vulnerable position, he can sneak up behind her and give her the scare she so deserves. Then they will have a good laugh and things will settle to a gentle simmering.

That wouldn't necessarily be a problem - if he decided to shun Annie, he could just refuse to manifest whenever she's around. But I think that, after he gets over feeling hurt and angry, they'll get things straightened out.

He had done it before (see www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=390 and the last panel on the next page). It was something much more serious this time, but Mort certainly does know how to use irony and sarcasm for best effect.
