sandjosieph mentioned something about making fan music in the Questions to Tom thread. This reminded me of a tune I made some time ago: www.macjams.com/song/50679It's supposed to represent Gillitie Wood. Tell me what you think! Others can post any Gunnertunes they've created here also.

You know what would be really fun? If someone made a kind of audio book for the comic. Perhaps with multiple people playing the roles. Of course, that would involve alot of coordination and a way for everyone to make contact...

Wow, Arherus, that sounded pretty good! It had the kind of repeating simple melody you'd expect to hear in a Legend of Zelda game or something. I can imagine Annie walking around the Wood with that song playing in the background. I heard a couple parts where the notes seemed off, but I think you've got a good tune there!
I've seen people organize together for group audio projects on YouTube, casting people as roles in anime fandubs and such. I imagine a similar process would work for a GC audio project. All the dialog is already written out, so all you'd need are people with their own recording equipment who sound reasonably like the characters.
It may actually work, but how would you describe visual things, like what characters are doing? Would we just find someone to be the scene narrator, describing things that couldn't be easily illustrated with sound effects?

Actually, for the visual part, someone could make a slideshow of the comic and have it synchronized with the voices and music.

We brought that up once, but lack of volunteers/voice recording equipment shot it down. We have a lot more members now though. Anyone?

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I'd certainly be interested in any Gunnerkrigg audio project. EDIT: Here's some tentative background music for when technical/scientific things come up: www.macjams.com/song/50714

Here's a test of the melody I quickly thought up for a lullaby for Gunnerkrigg Court. This is just a test and not the completed thing. Hopefully I do the YouTube posty thing right...

I wasn't even thinking of the comic when putting this together, but listening to it now... I can totally see this being played in the background as Kat builds a body for Robot and starts to go a little crazy with it. made it on Music shake, its a very fun and extremely addictive computer toy. eng.musicshake.com/Listen/Song/SongContent/?CONTEST_NUM=37966

I like it. It sounds like something that would go good with the Dr. Disaster arc.

I have a microphone in the mail, so I'd be on board as perhaps Coyote or some sort of narrative function. If anyone is serious about this, however, it would probably be wise to get Tom's permission.

SOme nice music in here. I can imagine that lullaby one playing over flashbacks, or when Annie is wandering around the Court at night.

That lullaby is seriously awesome
I'd be up for mic stuff, it's been a while since I did any voice acting.

I think that a Gunnerkrigg audiobook would not be good because Gunnerkrigg Court is a comic strip and therefore depends on visuals to make it work.

I think that a Gunnerkrigg audiobook would not be good because Gunnerkrigg Court is a comic strip and therefore depends on visuals to make it work. My thought was to script in a sort of pseudo-narrator that would describe scenes when necessary. I can see many chapters going by without much interruption.

I think the visuals can still be done, like having a panel with the dialogue coming up in time with voices and sound effects, as in a Visual Audio Book. We just gotta work with the medium we have. And I'll start the account once I get back from work tomorrow, or the day after that if work is too hectic.

How are we going to decide on voices? Volunteer basis, or everyone uploads a sample and we come to a general consensus? I'm honestly happy with either.

I don't know how much my opinion counts here since I don't have any way of contributing to this project, but I think an "audition" of some sort would be best, at least for the main characters. I'd like to see this reflecting the quality of the comic itself.

Everyone's opinion counts...
And here's a little somethin' I whipped up earlier today. It's a rough of the fight between S1 and the Bullbot. It roughly follows the events starting from Kat inserting S13's chip into S1's head, the start of the actual fight, to them realizing the entire fight's scripted, to the tunnel that leads to the picture, and finally the reveal of the picture of the woman with the sword.
There are more parts to it but I can't think of them since I don't have the voices to synchronize with the song. But don't worry they'll come.
Tell me what you guys think...

Yes, you could have it be a slideshow with key images and recorded dialogue, but then it wouldn't be an audiobook. When I hear 'audiobook'(so to speak) I think of something I can pop into a disc/tape deck and listen to in the car or on the stereo.
Were it not for the fact that it would require tons of rewriting by someone other than Tom, I would recommend a radioplay like The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

I would totally be up for a project like this! Female American voice, but I'm sure I could pull a British accent off, with some pointers!
So, who's going to figure out the script for the auditions and who's going to hold them?

Well, one could simply go through the pages as they're being read by the audiobook, though I agree it would be a bit too sparse. I'd guess the simplest way to do auditions would be for people to just post their demos in this thread, and the ones with the most praise would win? That would be fun in and of itself. Or perhaps two contenders could also agree between them who's going to do what. Edit: scratch all that, I just noticed that a new thread has been formed for this stuff. Sorry! gunnerkrigg.proboards75.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=555

I would totally be up for a project like this! Female American voice, but I'm sure I could pull a British accent off, with some pointers! Who said *everyone* at Gunnerkrigg Court is British? In fact we know Anja is *not* British, but she developed her English in Britain so should have a British accent overlaid on some other accent. Gamma is Polish and has very poor to nonexistent skills in English (why is there no evidence that anyone is doing anything about that, in a British *school* of all places?), and there's at least one girl whose native tongue is Spanish. Jones apparently has a long history at the school but was *not* a student there. She could retain an American accent, or for all we know she could retain a Minoan accent. We have no idea how long the headmaster's been there. We don't know much about any of the teachers except Anja, Donald, James Eglamore, and Jones. (Most people should have British accents though.)

Gamma is Polish and has very poor to nonexistent skills in English (why is there no evidence that anyone is doing anything about that, in a British *school* of all places?), Probably because Zimmy is against the idea of Gamma being able to speak English (she wants to have the monopoly on communicating with her), and it's not a good idea to get on Zimmy's bad side.

Gamma's lines should be spoken by someone Polish or at least by someone with a decent accent and can accurately translate what she has to say.
