Chrome; that doesn't explain how she was able to get back (we see her on the opposite bank as Kat leaves). Unless her appearance was just a projection.
Pretty good one, if so.

The impression I get is that the expression on Anja's face is her realizing just how little Surma taught her daughter about certain important aspects of reality.

Or unreality as the case may be.

Donald made the glowing purple blue-white shield. Tom confirms this.

She may be a magician, but I am a level 10 Rogue!

She may be a magician, but I am a level 10 Rogue! I think anyone who has played an RPG yearns sometimes to be their character. The day I realized my character in Fallout got twice as much sleep as I usually do, and was rich beyond his wildest dreams with a robot butler to boot, I got very envious.

Are you referring to when she used it to send a sign to the forest? It could be that there's some things a blinker stone can help you do, but that you could do by yourself, and that there's others that require a blinker stone to do be done. Apart from that it might be that Anja's talented to the extent that she can use a blinker stone, but not to the point where she can perform its functions without it. I think the examples she gave were the opposite ends of the spectrum, and that she's probably just in the middle. I was reading through the archives and I realized something about this. The forest was sending the court a signal, and there's tension between the forest and court. For diplomatic purposes it may have been better for Annie to respond, so Anja may have wanted to show Annie's signal, instead of her own, since Annie seems to have an in with the forest.

Tom's already answered this. Anja asked Annie if she could use her blinker stone, because she wanted to call Annie's attention to its properties and get her to take classes on it. A case of doing two things at once: answering the forest's call, and manipulating Annie into having lessons on the use of the blinker stone.
