She's just a small town girl Living in a distorted world She took a midnight train down to we're technically not moving and standing still while the world moves around is through strong etheric disruptions... Anywhere I don't know if that's what you're alluding, but it reminds me of this: youtu.be/hCuMWrfXG4E

(I kinda figured the plot would bend this way. Zimmy-trapped-in-psychic-hell would not pose a conflict for our heroines; they'd just go rescue her and that would be that. But Zimmy-rehabilitated poses a conflict, because, like most folks in the Court, she might be pretty happy this way. Happi er, at least, and Gamma might think that's worth protecting.) Why would there be a conflict? The distortion as such is not their main problem. It may even be a solution, one way or another.

Yeah, I figure this is some kind of distortion-induced "Zimmy if she were able to live a normal life" hallucination. (Although past experience warns that trying to guess what's happening based on the first page of a Zimmy sequence is an exercise in futility.) The background around the panels is white rather than the usual black, which reminds me of the Jeanne chapter.

I just noticed a detail that didn't fully click before. Zimmy is washing away the dark smudges that constantly surround her eyes. We've seen it clear up before waaaaaaaaay back the first time it rained, but I interpreted it as her feeling relief, not the dark smudges literally being washed off. Has anyone paid more attention than I have and can offer some thoughts on this? Are the smudges remnants of that internal distortion leaking out?

See this page in chapter eleven for reference, particularly the last two panels. However, it should be noted that Tom once stated on Formspring that this is a visual metaphor. To quote: [Others] notice a difference in [Zimmy when it rains], but if you were to ask them they wouldn't say "the gunk washed out of her eyes".

This is a comic where it is sometimes possible to literally interact with a metaphor.

It seems pretty clear to me that this is what Zimmy imagines her life would be like if All That Weird Stuff had just never happened to her. I guess that's just my interpretation, though.
Calling it now: the main problem with this "It's a Wonderful Life" scenario she made for herself is that Gamma's not in it. If she never lived on the streets, she never would have met the light of her life!

I'm putting my quatloos on this being the Nexus heart of the distortion where Zimmy found herself in an unremarkable, but also hallucination-free life (apart from the fact that the whole scenario is also kind of a hallucination, but you know what I mean...). She looks much too old for this to be a flashback, and Tom's comment under the page also wouldn't fit with one. (I kinda figured the plot would bend this way. Zimmy-trapped-in-psychic-hell would not pose a conflict for our heroines; they'd just go rescue her and that would be that. Why would there be a conflict? The distortion as such is not their main problem. It may even be a solution, one way or another. The distortion is unpredictable and dangerous. At least two people already died.

You know you're crazy when your biggest hallucination is that you have no hallucinations.

A pink vanity and green flooring? The distortion is truly a hell worse then I could have imagined. Worse: that floor is carpet. A carpeted bathroom. Though, both that and the pink fixtures are great for environmental storytelling - it is a very 1960s. The most obvious answers seem to be - either this isn't Zimmy but someone who looks like her, or Zimmy has taken over someone else's memory again. The clothes are similar to Jones', so that also supports the argument - the adults also have at least some level of uniform in the court.

Have we seen this kind of face-washing panel before? It feels like there’s one of Annie, but all I’ve found is the Annie-unraveling face washing scene when her father returns, and her returning her makeup to her drawer after she’s reunited with herself.

To her, the distortion's benefits are false and it's leeching off Zimmy. I think she'll struggle a bit to reframe it as a new status quo worth protecting. Kat will probably be a bit more receptive, both because she cares more about the rest of the Court and because she was never invested in the old Forest and divine hierarchy to begin with.

The distortion is unpredictable and dangerous. At least two people already died. It does not seem to be actively dangerous in most fragments to everyone, or even to most people inside. Nor have any sort of ticking clock beyond “everyone will have to eat eventually”. Maybe. Sure it contains dangerous spots. Or allows creation of dangerous spots. That guy died in a Coyote-affected part, and mainly because Annie won’t deign to use the door handle, so everyone fell into a pit. The drain, however, seems to be an unavoidable threat with hard time limit.
