I agree, it was worth a try. The distortion might have helped. It's still (probably) not impossible, they just have to figure out the trick to it.

It is odd that Omega is apparently unable to read minds. She can influence the minds of animals, but it seems ours are closed off to her. Perhaps consciousness is inherently ethereal. Does the Court intend to make a world in which even thought no longer has a place?

I'm still working out the details (and at some point in the intermediate future will drop a mega-post in the Speculations thread) but if consciousness (including memory) depends at least partly on quantum effects and etheric effects can be defined by locality and retroactive causality is a thing, then it might be more useful to think of the ether as a sort of simulation that can support its own ecosystem, and one that extends into subspace at that. The word simulation is misleading, though, as the ether can make substantive changes in what is, but it may be better than thinking of it as weather or a system of flows. [edit] What I'm trying to say is that if your hard drive is an eyeball you can see what's going on in your computer really well without opening the case, even infer some of what's on the hard drive, but you can't read the hard drive. So, Omega not being able to read minds but able to manipulate animals may not be odd in the slightest. [/edit] Does the Court intend to make a world in which even thought no longer has a place? If everything is known, will there be a need to think?

Have you noticed how we don't know anybody who's confirmed to be leaving? (Llewellyn? Without his daughter?)

In Panel 4 we see wavy lines which in context we can assume to be representations of an attempt by Annie and Rey to communicate in the Ether. In Panel 5 we see what looks like Annie and Rey sharply turning to look at Kat with startled expressions on their faces. In Panel 6 they have intent expressions and there are the same wavy lines as in Panel 6 suggesting an attempt to communicate with Kat in the Ether. The same wavy lines are in Panel 7. I think they are communicating in the Ether and have seen Kat's goddess form and are trying to communicate with that.

I suppose we may already have seen the effects of anti-ethereality on the mind.

By The Way: A good while back someone hypothesized that Zeta's power was actually Goddess-Kat's preexisting power (a necessity of retroactive causality; if Kat will become a goddess the power would have to exist before Kat). I think that Omega looking like Kat strengthens that possibility, and if true would mean that this current situation with Omega could be mostly resolved by Kat assuming her final form and appointing a 'pomp. Omega would be much less of a nuisance if she lost her connection to the ether. It'd be sort of a cheese solution for the current narrative, though, so I'm very skeptical that'll happen soon enough to make a difference with Omega.

Even if they can't communicate with Kat, they can at least microwave her brain.

I just noticed that Rey's ears are right back in Panel 6 as if he was seeing something disturbing or scary. And Kat's Robot Goddess form is both of those.

After Kat tells Annie that Omega could be listening in on anything she says, so Omega will hear any plans they make, Annie starts to talk about something she just thought about – but Kat stops her, reminding her of Omega's listening in again.
Then Annie finally twigs to the obvious ... Omega can't look into the Ether (or at least, not according to herself; this is assuming she didn't lie about this). She and Renard can talk that way. Annie and Renard look at each other, and there are some wavy lines between them. They then turn toward Kat. They look at her. Then they both get vertical-pupil kaogei eyes and stare at Kat, with wavy lines in the air. They appear to be trying to send a message to Kat, but it isn't working. Kat understands what's going on but isn't getting anything; she says with embarrassment that it doesn't work on her.
It's difficult to say whether there would be any way for Kat, who's famously non-Ether-sensitive, to send or receive any message that Omega couldn't observe. I mean, she probably sends wireless (electromagnetic) digital signals to/from her computer, but can Omega sense those? That's something we don't know about Omega's powers; can she listen in on radio signals? (I mean, why would she have to? She can just observe whoever's sending the signal.) If so, what if those signals are digital computer data, like wi-fi or Bluetooth? She can't read minds, but can she read signals that Kat's brain sends to her implant, or the signals the implant sends to computers (or the other way around)? I mean, even if I could somehow sense radio waves, that doesn't mean I could tell what keys somebody was pressing on their Bluetooth keyboard. That's just an example – Omega could just observe the keyboard itself – but what if those signals were sent by a computer on one end and Kat's implant on the other? Is there anything there that Omega can observe, and even if so, can she decode it?
Speaking of decoding ... she's got both Tony and Don captive, presumably in the same place. What if Tony and Don use some of their scary cryptographic abilities? I mean, yes, Omega can see all the ciphers they've ever used in the sense of being able to read the OTP or whatever, but she'd have to figure out which one it was and how to use it, and that's assuming they're even using an OTP. Being able to see something is one thing, but being a cryptographic expert is something else entirely.

Omega may see everything, but she cannot necessarily process everything instantaneously. Perhaps the bilingualism of various characters will become quite plot-relevant soon. (It seems unlikely that Omega already knows Polish.)

They could always pass notes to each other, if Omega doesn't read minds . . . No, but she can see the notes. They would have to be encrypted in some way that Omega can't decrypt too easily.

they can test if Kat's micro city is in the ether or not I like this idea. Better than my idea of calling Salsa Mel (or some other being who can stop time?), and discussing things within a time bubble. Or I like the language idea. As long as it's the right language. "Iway ancay eakspay Igpay Atinlay" — Meg (fun fact. during WWII, the U.S. hired Navajo people as "code talkers," the Navajo language is complex and they would say stuff like "iron bird" for airplane) Or code, but they would have to have worked out the code beforehand. Annie: "The rooster crows at midnight" Kat: "8 21 8? 23 8 1 20?" Meg:

Seeing as Meg described how she works as a series of information she can read. I assume it doesn't care about language I've done a lot of speculation before about the exact nature and limits of Omega's powers, including how she reacts to global languages! TLDR I think she can probably do a word-by-word literal translation of any language that she "hears" just by accessing various dictionaries & such, but might struggle a bit with the nuances, depending on how different the language is from her native English, because she can't just access the meaning people perceive in words directly (any more than she can read minds).

they can test if Kat's micro city is in the ether or not I don't think it is. It uses the same dimensional compression tech as the Court itself, which is not in the ether either.
