Your guy with the knife is rather directly preventing lives being saved. He's not "just" damaging property. The analogy to Omega remains poor.

I do believe there's reason to believe Omega will try to prevent the distortion from being ended which results in the people stuck in it staying in it, which puts their lives and sanity directly at risk, and kidnapping Anthony is an instrument that she will use to that end. Past events suggest that Zeta is already in some sort of distress and has been since the distortion began. I don't know if what Omega will try will be direct, indirect, or by proxy, but I suspect that if one method fails she'll try another and another, and the kidnapping demonstrates she's prepared to go at least that far again in the future.

However, I'm not trying to convert anyone to my point of view. That's just my assessment and my admittedly-flawed scenario is an analogy based on it.
If you can make a better one I'd be interested in reading it and am open to changing my mind based on it.
