Present-day Omega could still be a device. In these flashbacks she's a person but this was a long time ago. Right now I'm inclined to think that yes this is her running around inside the distortion but it may well turn out to be the case that her remains are being mechanically puppeteered to produce the Zoob, or possibly a combination of those two things. I thought it had been already stablished.

"Does" = "calls Omega a device" methinks.

... the style of clothing appears to be 19th-century European, probably early 19th century, and thus centuries after the Court was founded; that seems to have been sometime in the Middle Ages or at least the Renaissance. Hummmm, not that old i think. Artilleryman's clothes are ostensibly French Revolution or American Independence, so I'd put the foundation of the court between 1760 and 1790. These events with Omega also may take place later in the 19th century, I think the clothes are more Edwardian than Victorian - and you have to take into account that the Court is somewhat late in adopting the latest fashion trends, as discussed a number of times in this forum. TL;DR: foundation of the court a little after the French Revolution (maybe that's what they were running from), this Omega girl in or near the 1880s. That's what I see. EDIT: Jeanne was a soldier, a member of the nobility and a french national.

The story hinted of Omega as a way of doing cause-and-effect deterministic prediction, and that ether trumped that, so the court saw ether as cheating and they wanted to be free of it. Oh, and predicting the lottery of the future isn't?

but is the guy's great-great-grandchild named george GOOD CATCH! Maybe George's father is not a psychic at all, he just knows how to tap into Omega. And that Gouldman prize he received (outside the Court) was a source of income and also a test to the Device. If that is confirmed to be true, csj deserves lots of cookies and maybe a cake.

I thought it had been already stablished. There's a lot of tech going on there and the flashbacks are from quite a while ago. Is Omega on some sort of perpetual life support; is she moving around visibly and freely now because it's a distortion? Maybe Omega was always around and the distortion is just making her visible (albeit in Noob form) and subconscious interactions are now being rendered as mundane ones. Maybe she's dead, or partly dead, and someone's controlling what's left of her like a FPV (or FPS) and that's why she's sometimes been referred to as a device?

Anthony has said the words, "Omega device." What that means is, as always, open to interpretation. He's in deep with the Court but that doesn't necessarily mean he's privy to all the Court's secrets. Maybe he just thought that he was given all of the equipment that he needed to research Omega... and Surma's pregnancy. He apparently believed he was safe from eavesdropping when he said that, while he was unguarded from etheric means; if Antimony could spy on him then probably Omega could which means the Court could potentially be aware of the conversation. If Anthony knows Omega only as a faceless source of prognostication then he wouldn't know Omega could be watching him. Alternatively, maybe "Omega device" is a code name that's a misdirect which people who do know about her use to safeguard against accidental leaks and Omega has always been a person... but there's the distinct possibility that it isn't, and she's more of a device or a ghost-in-the-machine than anything else.

Hang on....if Omega is capable of doing this, then why did Annie have to tell her she was trying to help Robot to get her to stop interfering? Shouldn't she have known? It is an established fact that the trigger that caused Omega's predictions to become more inaccurate was that Annie survived the fall into the Annan waters. Maybe she has perfect clairvoyance over the timeline where Annie died, but is therefore totally lost when Annie is standing right in front of her? Aaah, I had forgotten that detail. Thank you.

This might connect to why Zimmy was so uncomfortable with the Thousand Eyes. Bird-based surveillance is the worst kind of surveillance, or something like that. If Omega's power is based on extrapolation, that would explain why Annie's rescue at the bridge was so disruptive to it. Time travel is outside the normal rules of cause and effect, so Omega had no way to predict the rescue with the information locally available to her. That may also be why she's lurking near Kat, now that the rescue is in Kat's past. Observation of the current Kat could let her extrapolate back to her rescue of Annie, and fill in the missing data to get her predictions back on track. Zimmy has a hard time seeing things that are real or not. A time stream bird is probably projecting lots of timelines that are real and not real at the same time. Would be annoying

Antimony probably doesn't have any reason to say "Omega device" other than that's what her father said... but that's not necessarily a bad reason. Zeta may not have the full picture either. I'm not yet sure Omega and the "Omega device" are the same thing. The tech that's being used to shield Omega from the ether may have been repurposed into something that's not now connected to Omega, for example.

The tech that's being used to shield Omega from the ether may have been repurposed into something that's not now connected to Omega, for example. And what is your explanation for this image? Antimony, Zeta, and probably Omega are currently in a reality distortion. That image could be metaphorical; it could be Antimony's intuitive partial-understanding of someone using a device based on Omega's amplifier tech to create an avatar to interact with her. "I am Omega" would then be an explanation and not a name. It could also be semi-metaphorical if the distortion has liberated a remnant of Omega that was present in a device and that's now running around with a degree of autonomy, or if someone was using Omega to explore the distortion and Zeta soaked up Omega's identity and Zoob is actually Zeta. The image could be literal, and Omega is currently an amalgamation (abomination?) of flesh and machine that is manifesting itself to interact with Antimony regardless of the distortion. Omega could be 100% dead and the present Omega device might be completely distinct, and her current presence is only because of the distortion (sort of like how Coyote could manifest with some powers via "Loup" even though he's dead). In that last case the image would be semi-metaphorical though representing the past rather than the present. I think it's more likely to be one of those middle options but I don't think we can rule out the other two yet. And there's probably other possibilities I haven't thought of.

I think the best explanation is often the simpest, and the more direct. We are reading a comic book, reality is what's in print.

I think the best explanation is often the simpest, and the more direct. We are reading a comic book, reality is what's in print. Even disregarding the fact that lots of pages and images in this comic have been metaphorical without literally telling the reader so, Omega's body could still be what is shown on that page, and yet not be the "Omega Device". For example, the Omega Device could simply be a computational engine used to extrapolate predictions from the information streamed into it by Omega.
