Pre-trypophobia? I think on a very primal level it's easy to associate them with infection/parasitism, which upsets our brains, which are wired to like healthy signifiers and despise unhealthy ones. Agreed. Your disgust is definitely rooted in some level of trypophobia. I empathize. Pretty sure you're both right. A short time after I posted that I had to go look for the spelling of trypophobia because I remembered the definition but not the actual word itself. There's just something when looking at them that makes my brain go "Ew, get it away, that's WRONG and not healthy, it's rotten and disgusting."
