And since nobody has mentioned them yet, who do you think the executioner and the other figures watching in the background are? They have the grey skin and glowing green eyes of robots, but S13 wanted to transition and be executed only after every other had been transitioned. They also remind me of medieval depictions of Death, which makes sense for the executioner, but not really for the audience. If they are supposed to be New People, then why the skeleton look? And if not, then what are they supposed to be? Some new robotic guard created by the Angel? The Seraphs after transitioning?
Spitballing here, but he may be imagining the post-transformation Seraphs. He is the one who manipulated them into going along with the boat incident. They have the most significant reason to be angry with S13. I wonder if the Seraphs are willingly keeping robot bodies until all other robots have become Nupersoned, or if Kat told them they're going last because of the boat incident. I have a felling she still doesn't trust them, but I don't know if the reason none of them have transitioned has been spelled out in-comic. According to a grammatically wonky statement by Lana, it's because they had angered the Angel. The Seraph does not disagree and it can be assumed that Lana speaks for the opinion of all or most robots and NP. Doesn't say anything about whether she speaks for Kat, of course. |

Robot is going on about how his plan was going to go originally. He'd stay silent about his manipulation and continue to be able to be with Shadow, he said on the previous page. Continuing here, he'd then eventually be transferred to a New Person body, whereupon (he thinks) Kat would see everything he'd done and (he thinks) have him put to death. We see Robot in his notional red devil form, kneeling in a desert by some sort of either dead tree or gallows, waiting to be either impaled or decapitated by a notional humanoid figure with a sword, as more vague humanoid figures watch from the background.
The metallic feather framing theme is back as Robot says he'd have been the first of the New People to die. Annie sadly informs him that a New Person has already died. The Mystery New Person and Shadow are also visible but aren't speaking currently. Robot responds that his selfishness has left him undone.
I'm not sure what he means by that. His selfishness in wanting to be the first one to die? Or his selfishness in keeping this from Shadow? I mean, whichever way, Robot must have been able to realize that the longer he waited, the greater the chance that some mishap would occur to one of the New People and he wouldn't be able to be the first one to die. Maybe this will be clarified.

Even the number of people watching roughly matches de quantity of Seraphs available. So yes, I think they are Seraphs too.

Saslamel & the psychopomps didn't care about the broken wing. He may also fear that if other New People enter the ether first, their beliefs will make it a hospitable and Robot-friendly place, in which case his soul won't be able to properly die or be damned or whatever he's hoping for. |
