Okay, I am confused now... Didn't Annie notice anything when close to the Star Sea? Nothing? She is like half etheric... Also, did she ever bring Renard close to the sea? And how the hell can Lindsey swim there, if she was born from the Ether too...? Could it be that human dreams about aliens created their species, but they have become real people now...? How could that happen...? [/div][/quote] It's tempting to suggest, from all this, that the Court is either mistaken or lying (or deceived).

Is it possible that the Star Sea is somehow better at pulling in and absorbing those with the etheric composition of a GOD entity like Loup, and the 'pull' is smaller for those with 'less' etheric makeup, like Annie? But... wait?... Lindsey is FULLY etheric-based of an entity, as you said, birthed from the ether as a human's concept of aliens... ough, my head... Ok. *throws away previous whiteboard for a new one* Maybe it draws in ether from etheric entities, but somehow has been modified to only absorb beings like Loup?? That's what the technical wording on this page suggests, which... I don't understand how and why, but... ok... You could probably said they did low scale pulling out ether using the lake water You would then adjust the threshold high so it doesn't effect all the ether students you got around and keep the project hidden enough. Use Zimmy as the base on how high you need it to be as she has the levels near or equal Coyote

I think they're in for a downfall. There could be a twist in the tail where they succeed in leaving via the Star Ocean. In which case that will turn out to be their tragic downfall.

What really interests me here is a question I asked when the Court tried to steal Coyote's power before - what is left if they take his power? A mangy dog, scavenging in the desert for scraps? By the way, I still think the people (entities?) running the show on the whole new court/star ocean thing are con artists, like the ones that talked Annie's father into cutting off his hand to make a flesh antenna to get Surma back. Maybe even the same ones? Like in that situation, they are probably telling the court what it wants to hear, but leaving out key information. Like what THEY get out of it. If we assume they are up to no good, as I do but you may not, then maybe this is in part a trap to steal Coyote's power, should Loup get close. Or the power of any other etheric entity that draws near. What they plan to DO with this power isn't clear - I'd have to guess that someone wants to become a God or already has and needs more energy to power up. Also, I will say it again: The Court may have spread knowledge of the Star Sea on purpose as a trap for Loup...
The more I think about this, the more I believe you two are right. Leaving for another world might still be their goal, or not, but who knows if anyone has really left? If I just invent a convenient story of erasing all memories about a specific person, I can, of course, claim that despite the sales pitch being total BS hundreds...no, THOUSANDS of loyal Court members have already crossed over, you just don't remember them, lmao. Suuure. It might really be some kind of pyramid scheme aiming to finally steal a God's power. With the last attempt probably even botched deliberately to a) entice Loup to come into the Court and get caught by their snare, which cannot be moved to the Forest, and b) getting rid of Aata. Who wants this Ether-tainted guy as head of the Shadow Men anyway?

And how the hell can Lindsey swim there, if she was born from the Ether too...? Could it be that human dreams about aliens created their species, but they have become real people now...? How could that happen...? LINDSEY. IS. A. REAL. PERSON. (all caps for emphasis, not because I'm mad) (also, I mean "real" in the context of the comic, not...oh, you know what I mean.)
Bud is also a "real person", as is Shadow, Cvet, Red, Ayilu, and all the other 'etheric beings' we've met. Annie's fire powers are also real! I guess I didn't really touch on this in my last post, but let me be clear now - just because a creature or phenomenon defies the laws of science, and thus was presumably created by the ether, does NOT mean they are simply very convincing ether-dolls that can be easily dispelled by an ether collector! Or, to put it another way, just because they were created by the ether does not they are the ether. Like I was saying in my last post, which drmemory expanded upon, creatures like Coyote are just really attuned to the Ether itself in a special way, which is why Loup alone is feeling like this right now.
Actually, now that I think about it, a lot of this stuff is basically the exact same as certain pieces of exposition that Jones gave in the comic! Hold on...yeah, here we go. Jones said in "The Stone" that if you believe Coyote's Great Secret, then presumably she was also born from the ether, but she also makes it clear on the very next page that she currently has no connection to the ether whatsoever (something we already kinda knew, because Anja had to explain why Jones can't even use a blinker stone). Jones was (if you believe her & Coyote's claims) spat out of the Ether factory, and then cut off all contact and lost the Ether's phone number and address, so to speak. Creatures like, say, Shadow or Cvet are the same way - they were created by the Ether, and might have some freaky physics-defying powers that they were born with, but they haven't touched the Ether itself at all since then. Meanwhile, creatures like Annie or Anja (or Bud and Lindsey, actually) may or may not have some Ether-made stuff they were born with, but they've also learned how to reconnect with the Ether, at least enough so that they can kinda dip their face in, get a good look, and maybe mess around a tiny bit. I might expect them to notice something weird when they try to look into the ether and there's a big ether distortion nearby, but I doubt they'd be very personally affected. Beings like Coyote, Loup, or Zimmy, however, are intimately connected to the Ether, 24/7. Rather than being born with specific powers that then remain fixed throughout their lives, they can actively warp reality to make all-new effects limited only by the potential of human imagination. As Coyote put it, they're swimming in Ether while creatures like Annie just peer into it - so the difference between Annie and Loup right now, I imagine, is like the difference between sitting on the beach with your back facing the water, while a whirlpool churns in the deep ocean behind you, and actually being inside the whirlpool.

I was envisioning more of a depowered but still colorful shell, but don't really know of course.
I like your theory about the pyramid scheme. This could provide an alternate explanation for the memory suit or whatever - nobody with etheric powers or awareness is allowed because they would immediately see through their scheme! Makes me wonder whether Atta is Evil Buddha, an active participant, or Naive Buddha, who was taken in and helped but didn't really get how bad it was.
Only people able to be suckered into Amway end up doing Amway...

One thought that came to me was that, if the Court did succeed in capturing and draining Loup, it wouldn't need to relocate, since the main threat to its safety would be neutralized. Then I remembered that the Court saw the ether itself as the problem, not just Loup or the other hostile inhabitants of Gillitie Wood. So it'd still want to move to an ether-free world, even if it could get rid of Loup.

How could that happen...? Just a minor thought, but the Court probably has water that's not Star Ocean water. Just plain, distilled water for making tea or whatever. So the etheric creatures aren't all dying of thirst.
