Somehow Annie went from being two kids to being the adult in charge of two kids in just a few chapters.

And so (officially) begins gunnerkrigg's la resistance. Annie is done trying to work with the court.

Somehow Annie went from being two kids to being the adult in charge of two kids in just a few chapters. She's drawn with adult features and proportions here too; no longer a child. Can't wait to see how an unchildish protagonist coming into her own as a diplomat will manage things from here.

Luckily, they have a growing army of synthoids, that amazingly appear to be off of the Court's radar. So, could be worse.

I sure hope Shell is cool and not the secret traitor character.
Edit: The more I think on it, the less I'm worried. Annie is a good judge of character, if she thinks Shell is this level of trustworthy, she probably is.

Well, it depends... if the Shadow Men leave, what's their attitude about what's left behind?
* Don't care at all - even if Shell tells them all about this group, not a problem. * Hope the left-behind people have a decent life - probably not a problem. * Want to leave ruin and corpses - problem. * Would maybe rather leave the left-behind people alone, but need to tap them for some sort of resource - problem.

I wonder how James, Donald, Anje, and Tony are going to react to this plan of departure?

If the Court really does what Shell claims they plan to do, there will be an awful lot of people (using the term a bit loosely) left behind. At least half the students, and basically everyone we've spent much time with, with the possible exception of Eglamore and Parley. If we view the Court as your basic faceless bureaucracy, then I could almost imagine them not trying to take care of those left behind or set them up with some sort of safe-ish situation, but I CAN'T envision them wasting the resources.
If they just leave the rest where they are, and abandon them to the tender mercies of Loup and whoever is left in the forest, a lesser author may well let it deteriorate into a Lord of the Flies situation. I can't envision Tom allowing that to happen, but Annie has a really good point about the Court not taking care of people, or even working up a plan to deal with Loup. Also, they've already pretty much abandoned the school - when's the last time there were classes?
So maybe Annie will be the new ruler. We should get her a pig's head on a stick to celebrate. Preferably not from a sentient pig...

I wonder how James, Donald, Anje, and Tony are going to react to this plan of departure? I would think Tony already knows about it, if he's really in as deep as claimed. Donald and Anja might as well? Or at least Donald.
I'm guessing James has been kept out of the super secret planning sessions. He actually mentioned something like that to Parley once, about the Court only letting you know what they want you to know... Also, elf girlfriend. She's probably not invited.
