O.o Well thass freaky. I thought for a moment she meant for Annie to be an illusion dispeller or whatever rather than a crowd dispeller.

Are those souls? Dead people? Creepy entities without a cause?
Well, eitherway, I'm going to bed now, to enjoy my nightmares.
Edit: Perhaps Zimmy is one of them, judging by her eyes and their... entire faces? Just a slightly less creepy version?

This page gave me a serious déjà vu. Anybody seen the movie Re-cycle? (Side note: Angelica Lee is the most beautiful person on this planet! This is not her best movie though. Watch The Eye!) Well, the Zimmy / Gamma relationship just became a whole new dimension. I always thought Zimmy was acting tougher than she actually is, but it seems Gamma really is the strong one.

Zimmy's just a scared little girl who had to learn to act tough to survive. Gamma will be the one who comes to rescue Zimmy, not the other way around. Gamma will pull Zimmy out of this nightmare world and maybe, depending on how bad the situation is at the time of her rescue, it might make Zimmy appreciate Gamma more.
More as is 'won't lie to her about what others say of her' more.
The inevitable hug scene that will happen when they reunite will be adorable, won't it?

This is a whole new level of creepiness. That...Nobodies, are not zombies. They seem social with other of their kind...maybe that's just apparent, maybe they're just shells and they're mimicking what they used to do...endlessly. Why Zimmy fears them is to be seen. I guess their ...something, maybe contact, has badly adverse effects. Maybe it's infective... Gosh, my mind is riding. It's terribly scary.
Edit: i did just notice the black lines extend from the face in the air...

greyumbrella, it kinda looks like it could be a buncha things, but not a machete. It looks like somebody's about to get bludgeoned, or someone's being blessed/knighted.

I got a sudden idea that the "Wanted" posters with the faces of people seen on panel four of comic n. 460 may have more significance than apparent. I would not make hazardous theories but think of it: Nobodies have no face. Maybe the posters have something to do with it in a way: Graphicsmash link to the comic 460, as the regular mirror site is down: www.graphicsmash.com/comics/gunnerkrigg.php?view=single&ID=16439

I agree with bludgeoned idea and not so much with the knighting as the person on the ground seems to have their hands up in protest (though I still think that it looks like a machete LAUGHING ON LINE), either way its pretty foreboding.
and Tom, you did a really good job on the artwork on this page. I have to say that the nobodies in panel 6 are especially creepy!

Silent Hill just became Sesame Street. Of course, Sesame Street was always pretty creepy to start with...

Man, you people are either too serious (being knighted? really?) Or too ominus (bludgeoned? Wha!?!?) It's obvious they're dancing! I wonder if this hints at what was going on in 453, when Gamma put her hand on the boy's face. Perhaps she and Zimmy thought the other kids on the roof were just nobodies? Gamma could have just been pushing him out of the way, and was surprised when he reacted, instead of just moving back. Or, maybe touching a nobody makes them disappear...

Shadow Men?
Whoever they are, they invoke the most primal fears. Something that looks human, but isn't human. An impostor.
Could this dimension be Zimmy's home?
Also, I doubt Zimmy doesn't appreciate Gamma. She's just reluctant to show it publicly, for it could be interpreted as a weakness.

Just a new person, dropping his opinion about this Wednesdays comic.
Those 'people' in the window may not be making any weird gestures at all. Considering the geometry of the place, which appears to be non-euclidean, the angles of things will change depending on your location relative to those things. Navigating through such an environment ought to be very... interesting for Annie and Zimmy.
At least the ground appears to be regular(flat), so that shouldn't get in the way of things.
Also, someone needs to make a tab or an avatar of that nobody that is prominently featured in panel 6. That would be truly AMAZING, considering the kind of art talent that resides on this board.

Maaaybe... this is some kind of "shadow universe". So what the girls are seeing in panel 4 is a warped copy of a street in the normal world. So these Nobodies are the shadows of real people -- who can't see Zimmy in the shadow universe. That's why she needs a psychic to clear the way for her; if she goes into the crowd alone, she'll get pummeled by people walking into her.

I just noticed that there are lines originating or pointing too Zimmys head in panel 2. They or she also seem to warp the world a bit as you can see by the straight line in the wall. It gets wiggly close to her head. The effect doesn't appear in the other panels though.

There's an idea that I'm surprised nobody has ventured, seeing as some of us are Matrix fans. That's clearly not air they're breathing, or is it? What if this world they're in right now is really a construct of Zimmy's mind? A construct, much like that street program Neo was in before seeing the girl in the Red Dress. An echo of the real world, except the purpose of this one is much more unclear. I tend to see it as entirely crafted by Zimmy's perceptions of the real world--and by her subconscious fears. She's simply "broadcasting" it to the others when Gamma's influence is too weak to stop it...unless she's focused on staying "here" like she was when talking to Annie about this the first time. Remember Zimmy pointed to her head earlier regarding where people are? That's where I'm getting that idea from. To reference the earlier idea of this just being an echo of the world as built by Zimmy's mind, "Nobodies" are generally people we don't really bother attaching names to, the passers-by on the street, the crowds that stream around on city streets. That's just a casual thought proccess we all have--just that here Zimmy seems to have amplified it somehow in this world of hers. Maybe that's why they have no faces. People generally would be pretty nasty to someone who's unkempt, creepy with no eyes, and pale as a corpse. They'd be afraid of her, and react from this. I'd imagine the general treatment she used to get was fairly nasty--and GKC is marginally better, but other students still cut her off in a sense. So maybe that's why in this Zimmy-world, nobodies are scary. She doesn't know their character. She doesn't know how they're going to react to people like her. She doesn't know whether they've seen equally weird stuff (hence why she was originally nasty to Annie and Kat). They're unknowns and thus, have faces that blur together with the darkness in her world. They're creepy, faceless, hostile. On a side note, just to suggest why Gamma can do what she does--I think she's a telepath. She's able to affect Zimmy's mind to the level that she stays focused in the here and now, rather than pulled backwards into her own world, where she halluncinates things, or her memories. The question to me is what kind of power has this kid got that she can suck people into her mental world when all hell breaks loose?

I could take 'em.
They're probably harmless. Like the fire in the hospital. Something that can only hurt the person they are directed at, namely zimmy.
