Just because she can fly, doesn't mean she's a bird.

A very huggy Valkyrie!
Cracks me up that she is now throwing her buckler away too.

At first sight, it seems no plot points are being advanced here. But the fact that Donnie made that buckler is probably going to be important 75 chapters from now.

Donnie demonstrated an expertise with etheric force shields when Ysengrin first attacked Annie - it wouldn't be surprising if the buckler he designed could form a big shield as well.

A very huggy Valkyrie! Cracks me up that she is now throwing her buckler away too. I noticed that also. When she hugged Anja she tossed the spear but not the buckler. My guess is that it was for the sensible reason of not hitting anything with either end of the spear while administering the enthusiastic hug. With Kat she's ditching the buckler too, probably because Kat is still a kid, more or less. The grip is metal and a little uncomfortable, which a kid would be more likely to mind and there is still the slim but not impossible chance of injury. While an old friend Anja would forgive an accidental bash to herself she would probably be less okay with her child getting bopped. Would make a bad first impression, too. ^Not that I'm an expert with safe-handling ancient weapons but that's probably the smart thing to do in this situation.

Oh dear, cue more sadness. "And who is this? Is this Surma's daught... Oh, but that means..." More likely, Annies are intentionally left for the GLOMP dessert, because "Huh, and there are two of her, THAT got to be a long story".

I think Brinnie, while saddened, would understand the inevitabliity of Surma's fate in a Demi-god sort of way... but there is a twist...
Brin: ... and our dear Surma... had beautiful twins!?
[massive hugs on Annies]
Brin: ...but how is that possible?
Anja: ... well, we thought maybe you could help us a bit with that. You see what actually happened was.......

Check out how close Anja's head is to the buckler in panel 1. Even with good reflexes, if something unexpected happens one slip may equal a bonk to the noggin. It wouldn't be a serious injury, but it would bother a hypothetical friend's kid more than it would the hypothetical friend.

Brin being a Valkyrie tho probably means she has honed combat abilities to demi-god-like levels. The causally tossed spear and buckler probably land perfectly in the corner of the room, as if gently placed there....

If it does land, Brinnie is still floating around for some reason, there's no reason for her tools not to do the same. If they don't just go back to storage when she dismisses them.

At first sight, it seems no plot points are being advanced here. But the fact that Donnie made that buckler is probably going to be important 75 chapters from now. Funny enough, when Brinnie made her appearance I noticed the similarity between the patterns on the buckler and those manifested by Donnie's etheric hijinks. But I came to the opposite conclusion: that Brin must have taught Donnie and Anja some Asgardian magic back in the day, and they had used that to develop their own ethertech. I was just going to post that theory when I saw today's update ^^u(I was also half expecting Brinnie to see Kat's etheric form, but it looks like that's not happening)

My left brain: "But we don't know yet how Brinnie can possibly help with time travel ..." My right brain: "Shut up, you! Look how happy Anja and Brinnie are to see each other, and look, she's happy to meet Kat! And oh ... how will she react to not just one Annie, but two?"
Time travel can wait -- almost by definition. It's awesome that Donnie made her a buckler! It's also awesome that after mentioning it, she just flings it to the wind when she sees Kat. Frisbee!

Time travel can wait -- almost by definition. Pretty much. Either the timeline is static (worst possible definition) and it's inevitable, or it's flexible with infinite timelines and doesn't really matter... 'cause fixing infinite timelines is kinda a lot. Moreover, if they can interfere with one another (ie if you can have two Annies from two separate timelines plopped together) then there's not only no telling when this happened, but from which when did it happen.
Either way, all that's known is that bird robots based on Kat's design make it into various points in the past, but that says nothing of how they got there, who sent them, or even from when.
Maybe it's all an accident and Kat never intended it to happen at all.
Maybe she turns to her immortal robots for a solution, lives out her life, dies peacefully of old age, and they deal with it. Maybe it's Loup/Coyotee shenanigans
Maybe she goes mad, turns herself into an undying cyborg, takes over the globe, and the plucky band of freedom fighters struggling against her cyber regime realize the only way to stop her is to change the past by saving Annie in a "power of friendship" type plot.
Maybe 10,000 years in the future someone finds the plans for the birds, builds a whole bunch, they get really popular as some sort of feathery retro-furby, and some of the billions that get made inevitably get lost by absent minded chrono-tourists.
Either way, however it happens, or happened, there's not even any real evidence that it has to happen again. With divergent timelines impacting one another, these birds could all just come from a Kat that had no Annie, and had no real goal or motivation to send them back, and it still happened.
End of time, when temporal causality is fluid not just among lines, but between them, there's no need to hurry.

We're measuring power level by Kat-awareness now. How long until we have eye-mounted Kat-o-meters? don't see a better way as the only gods power people either can't see her or see her Angel form. I believe when Robot gets his final body he'll either describe her Angel form b/c he can see as the one true believer or other Organic Robots will suddenly see her Angel form and it gets out
