Not a new chapter yet, T_T
I was really hoping we'd go right into one, but this is a nice bonus page.
Ahahahaha. *Cackles* I wont spoil it for ya.
Lovely!
Spoiler below- go read the comic!
Bwahahahahhaha. Grand Theft Auto: Gunnerkrigg Court, would be so, so awesome.
I do feel a bit sorry for Annie... But not really.

This actually made me "aww." Poor Annie! I want to give her a hug.

Awwww, poor Annie.
She's probably wondering what's wrong with Kat - how could she like something like that? Did she horribly misjudge her? And besides, it's just awful!!
(sigh) ...more innocence lost. Big hugs for Annie!
Great work, Tom!

That is definitely not a kids game. Just where did Kat get something like that?

It seems almost novel but sensible considering that Annie has spend a good part of her life surrounded by hospital folk. Not likely to catch Docs and nurses playing anything more elaborate than a handheld unit.
Unless of course the doctor is Gregory House. But thats a whole other story altogether.

I remember my introduction to GTA... I was snowed into this cabin in New Hampshire with four of my guy friends, a console and a stinky ferret. A piece of me definitely died that weekend. A piece that I have since replaced with cheesy fries and an unprecedented love for Hong Kong gangster flicks.
That had absolutely no purpose. I'm sorry.

Oh! That's so sweet! I love how in panel three Annie's expression is all "tee hee, you blew up a car?! This game is just crazy madness!” Then she goes from surprised, to shocked and finally settles on

I would be a little worried that she would have trouble with Kat's gleeful destruction on this one, except luckily it's only a one-page story.

I was definitely surprised to see an additional Bonus Page rather than the title page for Chapter Twelve, but it was a good story.
I enjoyed Annie's horrified response to Grand Theft Auto, though I'd like to know what disturbed her the most: the carnage and destruction, or the fact that Kat was enjoying it so much. Discovering the dark side of your best friend is never a pleasant experience.

Unless of course the doctor is Gregory House. But thats a whole other story altogether. Oh yeah. Annie + House == Even more insane, pill=popping, alchemical-weird stuff awesomeness. Annie is definetly a Myst person. Oooh, I think this counts as our first 'filler strip'.

Discovering the dark side of your best friend is never a pleasant experience. Not just any ol' carnage - but getting a thrill out of hurting people who never did anything to you in the first place. I'm surprised Kat even likes it. I guess she can distance herself really well. I wonder what Annie's reaction would have been if Kat had showed her Doom3 instead? At least there you're not beating up on your own species. (not counting zombies as people here) Hey, I bet Winsbury plays GTA! And I'll bet Kat could kick his sorry butt.

Funniest Gunnerkrigg ever? Maybe even funnier than Reynardine playing with dolls, even...

Wow, I love that last panel...Annie looks like this is the first of many sleepless nights. Actually I can totally understand where Kat is coming from. Violent games are so much fun, just because they're so unrealistic you have to laugh. I'm a total pacifist but you should see me when I play GTA and fight games...all trash talk and cussin.

Annie would be the kind of person who plays Myst. Hmm... I could see that. I was thinking of The Longest Journey myself (a good, quality adventure game!) but I imagine the Myst series would suit her just as well.

I find it a bit surprising, by the way, that Kat doesn't seem to have suspected that Annie would be appalled by something like "Grand Theft Auto", in light of how close the two of them are.
Today's strip reminded me, incidentally, of one speculation that I'd had about Chapter Ten and Annie's lack of enthusiasm for the Spacemonauts adventure: I'd wondered at the time if part of that attitude came, not just from the recognition as to how silly and filled with plotholes (such as how the Enigmarons can build a death-ray if they don't have any arms) the simulation was, but also because it might have seemed too violent for her liking. Of course, the former turned out to be the case, and Annie wound up being the one to demolish the Enigmarons' death-ray - but it's a far cry from running people over.

I can totally see Annie playing Myst OR TLJ. As a side note, TLJ: Dreamfall was kind of disappointing.

I found myself wondering what it'll be like when Kat introduces Annie to other aspects of youth pop culture besides video games. I've suddenly got a vision of the two of them at a rock concert, with Kat eagerly cheering her head off alongside all the other fans while Annie's got a look on her face best described as "Remind me again why we're here, please?" (I definitely think that Annie would prefer sedate classical music to rock.)

I smell more fanart coming on...
But let me be the 152763rd person to say this strip felt really suiting to Annie's character and background. I loved it. (And Kat's manic glee.)

I think Kat didn't expect that sort of reaction because, to her, GTA isn't carnage and mayhem and death, it's just a game. It's not real, so there's no reason to be appalled by it. Annie just lacks the experience with that sort of thing to understand it that way.

Annie just lacks the experience with that sort of thing to understand it that way. That's a sound, logical explanation of Kat's point of view. However it may not simply be Annie's lack of experience with such games that causes her to be disturbed. Some people will never grow accustomed to the concept of causing pain and death to innocent people for no purpose other than your own amusement. Even though it isn't real, for these people it remains morally repugnant. Annie may never get used to it. I never did. (On the other hand, fragging demons with a rocket launcher is perfectly acceptable! ;D )

I thought this page was awesome! It was cute and funny, and really I always enjoy the bonus pages in between chapters. Even though, of course I like the chapters, I kind of look forward to the bonus pages! They're always something a bit different.
