Forget about it. Time for some experiments. Pretty sure I actually said something like that to someone back in college.

Carver, I get you're still a teen but you do not let a friend off the hook without finding out what went down.
Calling it now, we're getting a few panels later in the chapter of Paz moving her things out of Kat's place.

Here's my guess. Kat is going to use the dimensional/temporal frequencies of the two Annies to find the original Annie, who is still lost somewhere in the fractured timeline multiverse. Kat intends to go and retrieve the original Annie.
Paz is worried that something bad will happen to Kat when Kat goes...INTO THE UNKNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWNNNNNNNN...INTO THE UNKNO-O-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNN.....

So is this looking like Kat is testing living matter transportation? Will they swap places or move a short distance?
Wildspec: Perhaps Kat wanted Paz' help to do animal testing for something more risky and Paz absolutely lost it at her?

Just fusing the two Annies back together, nothing special.

Well, *someone's* just being stupid.
Possibly we do discover Annie 3, who's been working with the psychopomps. At least, that's who they say they are...

You walk out the door, and you see someone you know, and they ask you how you are, and you just have to say you’re fine when you’re not really fine, but you just can’t get into it, because they would never understand.

But... this is not quite the best fit for that situation, because Annie(s) is(are) Kat's best friend, and they want to understand, or at least to try to understand. She(They) really shouldn't fall under the category of people who "would never understand". Best friends will try to understand that stuff even if they're not very good at it.

Don't mind me, just trying to find and/or materialize the "real" Annie by analyzing and/or fusing you without consent and/or explanation
PS: Paz just yelled "you don't use friends as test subjects!" at Kat just before Carver&Carver went in

Annie has had trouble in the past in perceiving social cues and hasn't always been the easiest friend to be with. While she may be Kat's bff, Annie isn't necessarily going to be helpful with some topics and there are things Kat might not want to concern her with for various reasons. As for the problem itself... there's been hints in the past at what it could be.

There's a hint of a tear (?) under Kat's eye in panels 3 and 4, which was not there on the previous page. And she seems very determined to ignore what just happened and press on with whatever she had planned. Almost as if she is trying to suppress some doubts because otherwise she would have lost an argument.

Sweet Mercy! What about the Coyote/Ysengrin fusion? What if the twin combo comes out like Loup? It's not worth the risk, Kat! Damn you, it's not worth the risk!!
Then gain, she may only be doing a scan of some kind.

So is this looking like Kat is testing living matter transportation? Will they swap places or move a short distance? I am thinking of so many Star Trek episodes and so many transporter malfunctions... I find that unlikely, seeing as Kat was the one horrified at learning Paz was working with lab mice (and was uncomfortable when Annie killed an ant to summon Ketrak).

If Kat's experiment goes wrong and the two subjects end up swapping bodies for next update, this is going to be a very dull version of Freaky Friday the 13th.
Anyone identified the logo on Kat's shirt? It kind of stands out IMHO, so I'm guessing it might a reference to something in the real world, maybe a joke from Tom?
Anyway, if that wasn't a breakup, there's clearly something wrong with their relationship, that's a very inconsiderate dismissal of Paz's feelings from Kat.

Like others have said, it totally looks like she's trying to be the Enterprise transporter chief.
That's probably not it. Unless they are being transported back to their own dimensions.
