It's roughly the same conversation from page 436. I also like how their hairstyles slightly resemble Kat and Annie's, only in reverse.

I find it an interesting coincidence that Surma calls Anya "Anny".
And yeah, gorgeous. The cold fog on their breath is a nice touch. I feel a nice chill coming along

Surma's face was rather thinner when we saw her in "A Ghost Story". I wonder if that was just those few years, or if her illness was making her waste away.
On a much lighter note, Anya's trench coat reminds me of one I own.

Wow. That was just mind-blowing beautiful. <3 So Anya never figured it out. Curious. And since the edges at the bottom are not rounded, we can expect another page about Surma and Anya on Monday. Yay!
By the way: Tom, you now have two pages labeled "Page 41" in the archive menu.

I was awfully confused at first. Then I figured "Oh of course, it's Surma and Anya!"
I'm enjoying this arc so far.

I wonder why this page didn't have rounded edges or anything?

As far as I've noticed, If a page has rounded corners on both the top and bottom of the page, it's a one page flashback than it goes back to the present. As seen here. (Rounded bottom-corners usually mean that the flashback is ending.) Wednesday's page also had double rounded corners, which means it's a flashback, but instead of returning to the present it went into a further flashback, which is today's comic. If a flashback page has rounded corners only on the top, (like today's) that means that the current scene in flashback is going to continue for another few pages. That's generally what I've seen.

this was a great update, we knew Anja and Surma were friends and we knew that Anja was broken up when Surma died (page 416) but now we see how close they really were

Annie is already a very good looking girl, but if her mother is any indication, she's going to be an absolutely BEAUTIFUL woman.
And it might just be me, but Anja seems a little more... lively, I guess, than we normally see. She's obviously not old in the present day, but her character seems a little more... subdued? Maybe a little darker? It's hard to tell from just one page of younger Anja, and maybe it's just being able to witness the banter of two best friends, but she seems more than she does in the present.

huh. soooo *that's* where annie got her lipstick/eyeshadow colors...
also: I wonder how many years before the kids' birth this is? Surma's hair is a lot shorter than the other flashbacks we've seen her in.

That has probably something to do with her best friend's death. As we see here, they were very close friends.

I think this goes a long way towards explaining Anja's sadness at the beginning of the chapter. She's never had to face up to the fact that she'll never be returning to this particular place with Surma, never had to cross that off the "to do" list at the back of her head. Now when it comes back all she can do is send off the MkIIs. (Of course, in "real life" she'd probably go with them and show them around.)

Lustre Beige? Jaundice Glam? Memories-of-Pus? I've never liked it, on either character. Never-the-less, Tom, gorgeous artwork. First class. I want the coats.

Pretty pretty pretty!
Tom, this page is absolutely stunning. The girls are gorgeous (what year are they in, by the way? They look much older than Kat and Annie), and the wintry backgrounds.
And I can just imagine Anja's accent.
Well done sir, easily one of my favorite pages.
EDIT: Saw Tom's answer in the Questions thread.

This was one of those surprises that, when you think about it for a bit, makes so much sense that you wonder why you didn't expect it. We already knew, of course, from the photograph, that Surma and Anya knew each other when they were students at Gunnerkrigg - and Anya was saddened at the realization that Surma was dead (cf. the flashback earlier this chapter when she's crying as she reads Annie's admissions form). But I hadn't expected Surma and Anya to be going to the warehouse together back then. I'd had the idea, up until today, that Anya went there when she was younger with Donald instead (the opening pages made it easy to get that impression), and that they worked on those robot projects together.

Whoops, when I posted that I was only looking at the bottom ones, I hadn't checked out the top ones. All makes sense though! I'm happy that we're going to see more of the beautiful Surma and Anja next week.

Hey, their scarves match. And are the same colour as Kat's in chapter 11. Cute.
They look so very, very chic. Especially Surma's hair.
Anja says it's a 'technology'. That's odd, given she's the most etheric one of the older characters.
