Cookies to everyone who said Cvet was an orjak! I still have no idea how so many people worked out that it was an orjak on Monday, but serious cookies to those who did! Personally I thought it was obvious from the dialogue that Parley & C:o had arranged an encounter with some sort of monster, and that I thought before I visited the discussion page. Once I read keef's comment suggesting it was a Rogat Orjak I had a pause and thought: "Oh yeah... obviously."

*eats a cookie* :3 Cvet is a cutie! It makes sense that she squats because her back legs are dragonlike and her front limbs are more like human arms, according to Tom's page on Orjaks. I'm interested in how she seems to have horns in the middle of her head rather than on each side. Is that sexual differentiation in Orjaks? Sivo had horns on the sides as did the one in the main Bestiary illustrations. But the cave one has a row of horns like Cvet.

Or been disfigured permanently, as contact with an ashray might do. That's what I really don't like. Not entirely sure but there may be a two-tier set of values here. The air raid shelter has wider than normal doors because of the need to bring equipment in and out but it would have been tight and hard to maneuver in. Can't fly either. If they worry about humans getting burned why not Cvet? Cvet was supposed to present herself as some sort of threat so that the Antimonies would have to work together... I guess availability trumps suitability? Or more likely cvet wasnt going to provoke them to an attack. She was going to appear, be all cryptic, misdirect them with illusions or something... Parley did say "I hope Cvet didn't give you too much of a runaround!" That doesn't sound like a straight-up attack plan.

I've gotta say, I didn't expect the Rogat Orjak to make a return to the comic. In hindsight, I should have expected unexpected returns many years later. I am pleased. ... So what chapter are we gonna see the Tic-Tocs again, anyway?

I suspect that strangebloke1 is correct, and Cvet hid, was surprised as it watched the Annie's fall thru the floor, but knowing the plan was to get the Annies to work together against a common puzzle/foe, decided the Ashray was a better "test", carefully monitored the situation, saw that they were dealing with the Ashray tolerably well, and left things as they were (would have intervened to help if the Ashray had got the upper hand).

Someone with more drawing expertise than mine should try some Cvet's expressions to the ashray fight (I know both doors were shut and she probably didn't see anything unless she can go etheric, but for some reason "Góvno! That was to be my face" sounds hilarious)

Or more likely cvet wasnt going to provoke them to an attack. She was going to appear, be all cryptic, misdirect them with illusions or something... She might not have been endangered by the fire either. You can be pretty much immune to fire and still find a drawn out fight annoying. I sure hope that was the case but Cvet being a Rogat Orjak would rouse suspicions of this being a set-up. Maybe she could have been an unseen menace doing menacing things from a distance without actually being seen. That may have been the plan based on what she says about hanging back. No idea if they're immune to fire. Doesn't sound like it if she's worried about "catching fire." Maybe they're fire resistant but are they Courtnie laser-resistant? The Annie's, even now, wouldn't open with a Firestorm. That's the part that's really dangerous. If you put people who are armed under stress and in circumstances where they don't know what's going on, particularly for a protracted period of time, you can't guarantee how they'll react. People's imagination can go nutz and they may do things that don't make sense in hindsight. The Antimonies' fire is as dangerous as carrying a loaded gun, maybe more so since it can't be unloaded and doesn't have a safety. Hopefully Kat used her computer-mojo to give Cvet a fireproof armor suit. Not confident in that since it sounds like Kat wasn't even monitoring.

I don't like how they brush the Ashray attack off as if it were nothing... Annie(s) could have died there... Also, they sent a creature who isn't fireproof against the Annies?! What were they thinking?! Were everybody always that careless? I'm hoping we'll get an explanation before the end of the chapter for those questions. Then again, a lot of the Court's strategies and actions throughout the comic suggest that carelessness has been a big problem there for a long time, among the adults as much as the children. You would expect that, after Annie was forced to sell her soul to save Smitty's life after the Jeanne's showdown, they would learn to be a bit more cautious... Heck, two FREAKING FOREST FAIRIES had enough common sense to realize taking part in these kind of shenanigans was far too dangerous... let it sink... the Scooby Gang has less common sense than forest fairies!
And the fairies weren't even hurt... Parsley and Smitty should have matured a bit after that close call... but nope...
EDIT: I wonder if Annie(s) will end becoming the sensible, mature one of the group, at this rate... And let me remind you, the Annies were under a lot of stress and very angry... They have been in danger, they have watched Coyote be devoured, they have been fighting monsters, and now they are facing the possibility of being fake and of being stolen everything they have and everything they are... for all the gang know, they may welcome the chance to cook Rogat alive to release some tension...

I wondered how You all knew it was a "she". I thought Tom meant Parley in the comment Anyway, with the squat and all... it seems that "Cvet" is short for "Cvetlana".

More than you ever wanted to know. Although I don't know how correct it is. Huh, there's a whole article about it... And an excellent one at that! Thank you for sharing! The stereotypical image of a Slavic person does tend to be somewhat in the general shape of this meme - just as the stereotypical image of an American (for example) tends to be an obese person (usually considered a redneck) with a gun riding off into the sunset to deal out some "democracy"... Neither of these are even remotely accurate - though they do have a reason for existing (it's kind of like a low resolution analysis of a culture). The internet is a strange place, and it tends to prefer simplified versions of things, images and people - but never full ones... Especially not in memes. Ah, but blessedly, the internet is more than just memes!

I wondered how You all knew it was a "she". I thought Tom meant Parley in the comment Anyway, with the squat and all... it seems that "Cvet" is short for "Cvetlana". I can tell you how I guessed it on Monday. First, keef's speculation that "Cvet" was an Orjak made sense for a lot of reasons. Parley is a Protector in training; Protectors are known to partner with Orjaks; they're from Eastern Europe. Cvet is a Slavic word, and the unseen character had spoken specifically to Parley using a Slavic accent.
Also, iver had commented that Cvet meant "blossom" or "flower" in many Slavic languages. That seemed like a feminine name to me, and that too made sense since a female Protector might well choose to team up with a female Orjak.
Finally, I thought Cvet might be young -- it seemed likely that such partnerships would be established when both are at the beginning of their "careers", both in training, and thus both young. Since it's pretty clear that Parley is still a teen, why not the same for Cvet?
So Tom's comment on Wednesday's page was for me just confirmation that Cvet was a young female Orjak. In fact, it didn't occur to me that the comment might refer to Parley. Good grief, how much more could she grow, anyway?

Maybe she also used her dragon-strength to build some obstacle which the Annies would have had to take apart to leave the bunker. Maybe she even was explicitly told to show herself only if the Annies were in real danger (here I am still wondering how dangerous Gunnerverse ashrays really are...). This would also relativise Annie's friend's presumed carelessness somewhat. They did not monitor them, but had an orjak as backup in case something happened.

Will there be squeeing? I guess she would just barely fit through the doors in the air raid shelter. Or just casually scratch at some walls, breathe heavily near the doors, etc. Things you can't see, and all that. I never saw the show, but I believe Tom has mentioned being a fan of Gargoyles, […]Edit: Apparently not. Shockingly enough, that show didn't invent gargoyles…

It arrived to a party it was not invited to, as it was not part of the Scooby Gang's plan for the Twankies to fall down the hole caused by the creature. What remains to be seen is if the ash tray was just dwelling there - having made the derelict installations its habitat - and followed Loup's WhatsApp plant out of simple curiosity, or if it was purposely guided there as part of Loup's Merry Melodies, with the plant acting as a beacon. I’m laughing at “Loup’s WhatsApp plant”, thank you

So she's wearing a white tracksuit? these references are totally lost on me, can someone clue me in please? I think on this last one keef was just pointing to the lack of a genitalia down there but if Orjaks are indeed able of some sort of illusion magic like many are suspecting then she might be just hiding it because "humans find showing it erotic so I'm veiling it to avoid any discomfort"

I think on this last one keef was just pointing to the lack of a genitalia down there Oh! I didn't even think about that. That somehow makes it funnier. No, I was referring to the "Slav Squat" meme, which stereotypically includes Adidas tracksuits. To be honest, I did miss something at first view, but realized that dragons are supposed to be a kind of lizard, not a mammal.
