I think you mean chapter 6 was the first time we saw her cry? You linked to chapter 31. I should know when to start a sentence on a new line......and I should get my facts straight.

Just when I was actually starting to kind of like her. This is so petty that I wouldn't be surprised if Courtnie was just Tony wearing a mask. That's it! There is no Courtnie. There's just an Annie cosplayer with some Hollywood latex makeup, some of Annie's old clothes and a red wig. Probably not Tony though, her clothes wouldn't fit. I wonder if she's working for Loup or for the Court ... (EDIT: I was just kidding, but still hmmm... ) I like this mention of the necklace and the weird fact that Fannie had makeup for a panel. It feels like there can only be one Annie, and these little details are clues that they will be merging soon. Or maybe Tom accidentally put eyeshadow on the wrong Annie.

Goodness. This feels like a...heartbreaking accurate picture of long-term grief right here.
"How dare you just continue with your life like nothing ever happened! You're throwing away your mother's memory!" "I still care about mother! The last thing I want to do is forget abut her! I just have to do things for myself sometimes too!" If you're not desperately clinging to her memory every single second of every single day, that's just like saying you never cared about her at all!" "No! I still care, I swear!"(but she doesn't really believe it...)
This sucks.

Panel three kind of suggests that Courtnie knew that Sylvie went to the Forest alone, and before her. Otherwise she would have said "I", or "We" didn't wear it to the Forest. It rekindles my belief that Courtnie is a Forest being with a strong glamour built around her. Maybe a powerful Elf like Ayilu. Actually it's the second part of that sentence that surprises me: The necklace mother gave you. What? Not us or me?

It rekindles my belief that Courtnie is a Forest being with a strong glamour built around her. Maybe a powerful Elf like Ayilu. Actually it's the second part of that sentence that surprises me: The necklace mother gave you. What? Not us or me? I think it's fairly clear that Courtnie chose which pronouns to use with the intent to draw a distinction between herself and Fannie when none yet existed and to exempt herself from the accusation she's implicitly making against Fannie. We have the luxury to examine Courtnie's words at our leisure and pick apart her arguments carefully but Fannie, though she may have had some training in mediation, would have to remain unrattled and think quickly on her feet in order to spot exactly where Courtnie is twisting the truth in that moment. Fannie at least knows Courtnie's criticism is unfair, as she says so in the second-to-last panel, but Fannie does appear rattled, which is at least a partial victory for Courtnie. Courtnie's argument is that Courtnie kept the necklace her mother gave her and is wearing it now whereas Fannie didn't keep the necklace her mother gave her and thereby lost it, therefore Courtnie loves and honors Surma while Fannie in some way does not, to the extent of not valuing the necklace as a keepsake. In panel #1 Courtnie declares "You wanted to wear your makeup again but never stood up for yourself!" which I think indicates that she does know what Antimony was feeling and what she intended by safeguarding the necklace at the time... and by extension is probably well aware that she's spouting garbage. The subject of the conversation has also been changed to Surma from Anthony. The reason why Courtnie is verbally assailing Fannie is because Fannie was saying things that questioned her relationship with Anthony (though it remains unclear if Courtnie knows why she's saying what she's saying, the tit for tat nature of the argument makes me suspect she does know) and carried an unintended implication that Anthony might like Courtnie Fannie more. If Fannie switches the topic back to Anthony in the next few comics the reason why will probably be that she figured out what Courtnie is really doing and why she's doing it.

I believe conversations like these have been happening in Annie's head her whole life. Yes, indeed.

When was the last time we actually saw the necklace, pre-Courtnie? I think I posted it somewhere a while ago. It was when she found out her mom cheated on Jimmy Jims. I'll provide the link later. Edit: - Here, this is the last we saw Annie with her necklace before she went all splity. - Yep, I did post it before!

Yep--and we've seen Annie do that before, too. Shoot, I did it when I was her age, trying to win arguments. It works until you have somebody there who will call you on it. Unfortunately, Forest!Annie doesn't have the presence of mind to do so at the moment. (Which also fits what we've seen from Annie before. Faced with a barrage of accusations, she's quickly back on her heels playing defense as best she can.)

New wildspec: it's the necklace that makes Tony unable to talk with the Annie that wears it. Which suggests the necklace hosts a person.

As much as I really, really hate to admit it, C!Annie's got a point here: F!Annie was REALLY bad at standing up to Tony. I admire that C!Annie's gotten better at it, though it seems to have made her a more stressed out person in general. It may have even strained their relationship, as seen when Tony picked which one he wanted to cook with.
And I'd wondered what happened to that necklace. Now I know.

I agree that Antimony was bad at standing up to Anthony but can't fault her for it, since Anthony's parenting style was a sort that made standing up to him necessary in the first place. Gotta disagree with the notion that Courtnie's way of standing up to Anthony and Fannie is admirable, though. There's a difference between being assertive and being nasty.

The animosity over the necklace is pretty damning that Courtnie didn't go to the forest that day.

Victim-blaming goes from atrocious to depressing when it’s against yourself. “It’s YOUR fault Anthony walked all over you emotionally and kept you from honoring your mother. You weren’t STRONG enough to stand up for yourself”. What a horrible and believable logic for someone in that scenario. Jesus.

Courtnie is actually really reminding me of Anthony right now. If Annie's got a judgmental, dismissive, it's always my fault part of her sitting in her head giving her shit for everything she does....who put it there? According to Courtnie, she's not wearing her make-up not because the only parent she's got left who she might be terrified of losing again told her to take it off, but because she doesn't love her mother enough. Not only does it put everything on her it leaves nothing left on Tony. He, or anyone who causes her pain has no blame. She has to take all of it.
And this actually tells us why she never asks for help, and why she gets defensive to the point of cruelty when someone challenges her; because the stakes are too high. If Annie's wrong it's because she's a complete waste of a person, not just an average human being who makes mistakes sometimes. So she can't risk it.

What I see here is this last panel, thus giving me the theory that Courtnie is really the FireAugmentedAnnie, and Fannie the ...Human(Tony?)AugmentedAnnie, and that each one is part of the real one, as in the mentioned arc.

Great find! I think you've got a good idea here... it shows up strongly in how they confront difficulties - Courtnie with anger/aggression (fire) and Frannie with deer-in-the-headlights freezing and self criticism (Tony-like).
