I don't think I saw it discussed here, but maybe I missed it; how big a possibility do people think it is that all this adventure isn't real? That everything that's happened since the two Annies were sealed together has been an illusion by Ayilu? It has been discussed and found unlikely.

Perhaps Tony can open up with Sylvan Annie because he doesn't see her as his own daughter?? Where as Courtnie he still sees as his daughter and thus is closed off still? Earlier, Courtnie said: "These past few months father and I have finally been able to reconnect." That is suspiciously contradictory.
...Could there be more than one Courtney running around?

(3) Actually Fannie is the real Annie; Tony figured it out because he has special Dad Instincts and kept up the ruse until his real daughter came back. When she did, he was more open because of their previous slow progress on their relationship. This was one of the theories that went through my head when this first happened. But I am too cautious a reader, and wanted to wait for more evidence about the true nature of the Annies; that was my mistake. I should have submitted it to the wildspec thread when I had the chance. I say "wildspec" and not "a likely theory" because Tony has never been the most emotionally intelligent person. Although he's grown a lot just in the short time he's been back, he was still out of Annie's life for YEARS, so I doubt he any "Dad Instinct", or much of an emotional instinct at all.

It's not necessarily contradictory. I'm sure Tony's still odds-on favorite for "Least Emotional Character Not Named Jones."

The last that we saw Tony, it was in the middle of the evacuation during the attack on the Court. He supported Annie going back into the forest. From his point of view, his trust in her was rewarded when she came back and the attacks stopped. That's got to be worth something.

Well, Tony does do a kind of "deep reveal" and say that putting up with himself is "his worst nightmare" - indicating to his own daughter the depths of his self doubt and self loathing. Huh, I had interpreted that line very differently. "Having to put up with yourself? That's basically my nightmare." => "You're having to live with an Annie too now? Welcome to the hell that my life has been for the last six months!"

Welcome to the hell that my life has been for the last six months!" hah! hadn't thought of it that way... it would be kind of a sideways dig at her (implying "Annies are real difficult people to deal with") so would seem kind of mean to be delivered with such a light-hearted laugh & shrug. Although, given today's comic ("... not that you care" [2119]), Courtney does seem a bit of a handful...

At least, he seems to have stopped self-medicating with alcohol. Did we see him consume any alcohol that wasn't administered by Don the Don? Good point. For some reason, I just assumed. Or maybe I hoped he was finding some relief, even if it was dysfunctional.
