The linked page suggests he considers Parley attractive. The step from "considers someone attractive" to "the mere suggestion of there being two persons with that appearance is enough to react in that way" is vast. . . . is it? I'm pretty sure that's fairly subjective.

The step from "considers someone attractive" to "the mere suggestion of there being two persons with that appearance is enough to react in that way" is vast. Eh, I think calling someone "hotter than hell" is kinda more intense than simply considering them attractive, and it's not a huge step from there to "slight blush while thinking about there being two of them". Smitty's pose also implies it's not just the mere suggestion that got him blushing, but him thinking about it in detail.

Parley definitely would have been kicked out of the woods. The question is in what way and how damaging would it have been? She probably wouldn't have been put into space like Jones was, but maybe she would have been shot back across the ravine back into the court and bounced off some buildings. I'd wager she'd probably survive that given the training and wards she has now, not to mention to breakfall ability she's shown off before, but it would have been a harrowing few pages and she might have been badly injured... It wouldn't have been a good idea for Loup to do that. He could get away with launching Jones because Annie knows that Jones is indestructible, but if Annie had just seen Parley subjected to that kind of force, she'd have been in far less of a mood to listen to what Loup had to say. Most likely he'd have had to come up with a less violent way to separate Parley from Annie.

Now I would have liked to see Loup making Parley get lost in the woods and always end up at the ravine again, regardless where she was going.

Annie: "We'd end up with two George Parleys forever, and then what would you do?" Smitty: *pauses, turns to Parley with a finger raised* Parley: *gasp* *slap*

If I may reformulate, I think it's the fact that Smitty's mind immediately went to thoughts that were left intentionally blank and which made him blush even though the suggested scenario could be seen as fairly innocuous that struck me the wrong way.
Had Parley said (I am now imagining scenarios entirely unrelated to this page) "...and thus I ended up wearing nothing but a bikini", the last panel wouldn't have bothered me. Had Parley said "after the last fencing session I was so sweaty all my clothes went see-through and stuck to my body.", the last panel wouldn't have bothered me. There being two Parleys though? Clones are a well used sci-fi concept and it can be taken all kinds of ways; it bothers me that Smitty's mind went where it went.
I sincerely hope I haven't broken any forum standards with the suggested scenarios.

Personally I don't see the issue with someone entertaining some advanced thoughts at the suggestion of their highly attractive SO being duplicated. It's not like he's going full on panting and sweating after all. His reaction could be accompanied by the phrase "Huh, that'd be neat" and then he'd move on to the topic of the night.

Somehow I failed to notice until this page the way Annie has her hair tied behind her head. It looks really neat.

I like how, in the end, Forest!Annie just decided to stick with her forest clothes. Possessive in the face of her duplicate; politely pragmatic with everyone else. Also, I'm disappointed I didn't open this thread to find a flood of these. So my contribution is also an expression of said disappointment: (that's a lie, I was going to use boxbot no matter what)

I didn't like this page. Whatever things that was intentionally left blank and caused Smitty to blush and involved two versions of his girlfriend doesn't feel like it was in character for him. That, and I don't see the appeal of whatever he was thinking. And I prefer not to have this comic go that way. More specifically: never assume you know the psychology of anybody. You don't know what Smitty is, in the dark.

I don't how is this a strech of imagination in any way, in fact we have documentated proof that those two are not above doing the dirty just before important events More to the point having dirty thoughts is perfectly normal

it bothers me that Smitty's mind went where it went. And where exactly did it go? All we've got is a blank thought balloon and Smitty blushing while looking thoughtful. Sure, it could be the makings of a really steamy letter to Penthouse, but it could also just be him holding hands with the two Parleys while all three of them drink from the same milkshake. It's a blank space, it's left to us to project our own ideas into that space, thus whatever a person sees in that space says more about that person than it does about Smitty.

See links earlier in this thread to multiple pages of Rey's pervery.
Besides, Smitty's flushed face is enough to tell the story.

See links earlier in this thread to multiple pages of Rey's pervery. Oh, yes, like how he wouldn't have minded seeing two girls kiss? How lasciovous! Rey is pervy, yes, but it's not like he automatically jumps to the most extremely pervy thing imaginable every single time, and much of his perviness has been pretty tame. There's still plenty of room there, and again, you fill the blank space with what you want to see. Full disclosure, I personally see the Penthouse letter stuff, 'cause I'm a dirty-minded kinda guy. But regardless of what exactly is on Smitty and/or Rey's minds, it's all subjective as to whether or not it's too far a leap. I don't see my interpretation as being too far myself. Smitty might, but then again he might not. We just don't know for sure. Bottom-line point is, we don't really know exactly what Smitty is thinking and we don't really know what might be too far out there for Smitty to be thinking either. Mr. Siddel is really the only one who knows Smitty's mind that well, and since he left us with a blank space and an ambiguous facial expression, all we have left to go on is circumstantial evidence and our own personal thoughts on the situation, neither of which are submissible in court.

So to change the subject, how tall is Parley getting and wouldn't being too tall and muscular have a negative effect on her health?

And if the immediate thought was something as innocuous as him holding hands with the two Parleys while all three of them drink from the same milkshake I'd still wouldn't like it. That is an activity that he already can do with his current girlfriend; wherein lies the extra appeal of there being two of them? So to change the subject, how tall is Parley getting and wouldn't being too tall and muscular have a negative effect on her health? Welcome to the forums! Eglamore must've gone through the same training and he seems to be doing fine.

That is an activity that he already can do with his current girlfriend; wherein lies the extra appeal of there being two of them? Whether you like it or not is really a completely separate matter from whether the difference between Smitty's reactions is vast or not. Simply not liking it is not objectionable - you are, of course, free to dislike what you want - but not liking something can't really be used to accurately judge the extremities of a character's personal values. On a nitpicky technical point, sharing a milkshake with two Parleys actually isn't something Smitty can do with his current girlfriend because there is currently only one of her, so he can only share the milkshake with that one. Oh ho! But I get your meaning. In order to proceed with the discussion properly, then, the question is whether your objections to the idea stem from some kind of moral outrage, from just not understanding what the appeal might be, or some other reason? If you simply don't understand the appeal, then I can certainly try to explain it!

So to change the subject, how tall is Parley getting and wouldn't being too tall and muscular have a negative effect on her health? Who knows if there's an upper limit? But there's a possibility that she'll get around the same size as Eglamore and his predecessor. I doubt there'll be much trouble regarding her health considering the aforementioned Eggers and predecessor seemed to do just fine. Her new physique is being bolstered not just by rigorous physical training but also etheric working, both of which most likely take health risk factors into account and work to counteract them.

So to change the subject, how tall is Parley getting and wouldn't being too tall and muscular have a negative effect on her health? The only serious effect medicine has seen on women from being tall and muscular has more to do with engaging in the extreme level of physical activity some people undertake to get like that rather than the actual fact of being tall and muscular. Women who are exceptionally active and exert themselves (serious marathoners, Olympic level sprinters, body building enthusiasts) have been known to cease their menstrual cycles. Otherwise, as long as you're taking care of yourself and not doing anything dumb like taking tons of steroids in order to build that (Court developed training and foods and potions notwithstanding), being tall and muscular won't really hurt you. And even the aforementioned effect is only subjectively detrimental. In fact, the activity associated with Parley's physique is associated with health benefits including lowered blood pressure and resting heart rate, with one's heart also being better conditioned for exertion. She is also less likely to develop osteoporosis if she maintains her bulk into later age simply because it puts a healthy manner of stress on her bones, inducing her body to better maintain them. Conversely, regarding her cardiovascular system, she does have to be careful of ventricular hypertrophy and various problems that brings (not least among them angina from simple muscle thickness and potential heart attack from thickening of the muscle being a potential predisposing condition to arrythmias). But this can happen in athletes who aren't as tall and bulked as Parley, and is not infrequently found in aerobically conditions athletes of various sports. Furthermore, "athlete's heart" is far and away not likely the actual cause of sudden death, but rather a misdiagnosed condition where the heart enlarges incorrectly and excessively in response to strain.

So to change the subject, how tall is Parley getting and wouldn't being too tall and muscular have a negative effect on her health? I guess as long as her heart is up for it? That's one big issue. It's a square-cube law thing. Easiest to imagine in an extreme case, but applies in small increments: if you double a person's physical measurements - height, width, and depth - and increase every internal measurement proportionately, the cross-sectional area of the major blood vessels is 4X but the volume of blood that needs to go through them is 8X. Same for the trachea and bronchi, relative to air volume. And muscles and bones, relative to weight supported or manipulated. Even the digestive tract - the small intestine is twice as long and has twice the internal circumference, so is 4X as capable of absorbing nutrients, but has to feed 8X the body mass. There's a form of gigantism where the person never stops growing - until they outgrow what their heart can handle. Then they die. Typically before age 45. Large animal species have huge hearts. There's another potential problem: heat. Humans - mammals - produce heat. Back to that square-cube law. Eight times the heat-generating mass, four times the skin area through which to shed that heat. This is why, in the same climate, larger mammals are typically less hairy. Humans are a partial exception to this: between our oversize overactive brains and our status as the planet's champion long-distance runners, we produce more heat than is typical of animals of our size and therefore have less fur than similar-size animals that evolved in the same climate. But we still occasionally have problems - every year in the US there are a few high-school athletes who push themselves into heat stroke. And, related to that, in physical exertion, muscles suck energy and pull the blood sugar level down. Too low... can be fatal. Or simply cause unconsciousness or mental incoherence in a situation where being unaware is a really bad idea. The more muscle, the easier this is to do. So you get into situations where your elite can do absolutely incredible things... for short periods, after which they are pretty much unavailable for hours to weeks.
