The dorms change each year, yeah. The first year hasn't ended yet. It will be obvious when it does.

As you've guessed, aoeniac, I won't be giving away anything but I can say that Annie's name wasn't chosen just because it sounds nice. As for Carver acting like "antidote"... I don't quite see the connection. Well, in my defense: they are both all about helping people out of problems, but usually aren't as useful if everything's fine; both are heavily involved in medicine (http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=72); both can be a poison themselves, if nothing's wrong in the first place and/or if the situation is mis-diagnosed (trying to help Sivo in chapter three, Robot in chapter seven and Kat/Aly just recently). And, of course, both of them begin with "anti". Sorry about that . . . I'm surprisingly good at seeing connections which aren't there. Just want you to know that my idea wasn't COMPLETELY baseless. However, the one that's prompting me to ask you this next question is . . . Do Doctor Disaster's fingernails grow quicker than those of most of the teachers?

Don't apologise. Your reasoning isn't too far off a theme which hasn't been picked up on too much yet.
Dr. Disaster's finger nails grow at a normal rate. He cuts them regularly.

Tom . . . your latest comic . . . is that REALLY how Aly agreed to become a bird, or is he just trying to make a joke/testing Kat's gullibility/hiding something else?

Nope that's how it went down. He is a kid who made a big decision without really thinking about it.

It just goes to show that when your parents ask you if you're interested in doing something, you'd better listen to exactly what they're asking you before saying "'kay". Otherwise, you might wind up sprouting feathers everywhere.

Tom, when Annie fell into the Annan Waters . . . on which shore did she wash up? The Gillitie side or the Court side? I'm pretty sure it's the former, but I'd like that to be concrete so I can start building improbable speculations around it.

So that means that Ghost Girl with a Sword's on the Court side of the river?

todd- so it would appear.
Tom, that's really, really, really creepy that Aly did that. Is this a permanent thing? And did his parents -try- and trick him?

Tom, is it just the bodies that change, or do Aly and his parents now have birdy brains too?

They have bird brains. Their change was complete and all that implies.

The lose of human reasoning. If the theory that the parents are fanatical bird enthusiasts is true, I can see their desire, but the thought of willingly giving up a good portion of your sapience is a bit disturbing, regardless. If Aly showed a genuine desire for the transformation, instead of the “ok, I’m becoming a bird. Guess I can’t ever see my dear friend. Or play video games. Oh well,” response, it wouldn’t seem so eerie. He seems so casual accepting it, even though he doesn’t seem to enjoy the loss of friends, or the transformation itself. It’s odd and haunting. They have bird brains. Their change was complete and all that implies. Huh. Will any background on this odd lifestyle choice be brought up? I just have a hard time wrapping my brain around someone casually sacrificing most of their intellect. At least not without some more reasoning. (Ironic, that.) Sorry to talk so much, but you’ve pulled on my heart strings with this last arc. Bad Tom! ;D

I just realized (or, remembered, more like) that my cousin's name is Tom Seidel. Which is similar to Tom Sidell.
Tom, are you my cousin in a very, very poor disguise?

Fairy tales are odd and haunting. 'The Snow Queen' still terrifies me to this day, and I'm sure if I really 'The Little Matchstick Girl' again I'd still cry. I know GC isn't strictly a fairy tale but I've always had that impression from it, in the story telling, in the imagery. And with Annie I always expect a bittersweet ending (but that doesn't mean I want one ).

Were Mr. and Mrs. Kershaw aware of Aly's video game-induced attention deficit disorder? Did they intentionally time the question, "Hey Aly. You want to be a bird?" to trick him into agreeing to something they knew he would otherwise never agree to?

I noticed that there were a couple of features about Alistair that seemed parallel to Annie. Both have long first names starting with an A that get shortened to more informal versions for everyday use, and both have two run-ins with Winsbury in which Winsbury loses, the first in home room and the second in gym class. (Of course, there are some strong differences as well, such as that both of Alistair's parents are still alive, and that he's far more familiar with pop culture than Annie is.)
Were these similarities deliberate, or am I just reading too much into things?

There are certain parallels that run throughout the comic.

Is Aly REALLY gone forever (out of the comic at least)?

Can we take it for granted that he more or less wanted to be transformed? And if not, how do we reconcile this incredible crime against a person, which could be construed as worse than murder, with the fact that everyone was more or less blase about it and didn't even ask about ways to stop it or actually try to stop it?

I don't have any music by Kate Rusby and I want to remedy that situation. Which album do you recommend I get first?

You can probably start reconciling by not taking things so literally.

Honestly, try and get as many of her albums as you can because I can't think of one song I dislike from any of them. Otherwise, you could maybe start with "Ten" as it is a collection of her most popular songs.

When in the course of the week did Aly find out that he was turning into a bird and that he and his family were going to be moving to Gillitie Wood?
I'm assuming that he discovered the full story during the week, because on Tuesday, he told Kat (looking genuinely puzzled) that he honestly didn't know where he'd be going when the week was up, but he clearly knew by Friday morning (when he gave her his initial good-bye) where they were moving, in light of his remark about how his new home wouldn't have telephone or Internet communications (which definitely fitted Gillitie Wood).

Aly knew before he arrived that he and his parents were going to Gillitie. Kat asked if he was going to a new school and he replied that he had no idea because who knows if birds go to bird school.
Why was he there for a week? Two reasons: 1) So he could spend his last week as a human with kids his age. The faculty were aware of the situation. 2) The chapter would have been much shorter if he was not there.

Tom . . . will the next chapter REALLY involve trucks and guitars, or does my joke-detector need maintenance?
